Wrigley trip
I'm a visitor from the Indians SBN site, Let's Go Tribe! but thought I should drop in here to get some advice. A buddy and I are taking a trip to Wrigley in late August for a Saturday afternoon game against the Phillies. It's shaping up to be an important game and I'm pretty excited. It will be my second trip to Wrigley, but my first was 15 years ago and I don't remember much.
Anyway, does anyone have any tips for places to stay within walking distance of the stadium? Any suggestions or recommendations for bars or restaurants around Wrigleyville?

Welcome!
I’m headed to the Thursday game of that set, should be a good one.
Not sure of hotels nearby, but if you’re into good organic/locally grown food, Uncommon Ground north on Clark can’t be beat.

I recommend the Inn of Chicago
It’s downtown, so a little pricey, but there is a Red Line Train that stops 2 blocks away and is a short 10 minute ride to Wrigley. It’s walking distance to Rush Street, Navy Pier, etc….
Recommend
I’ve made the pilgramage 10 times now, we usually stay around Mag Mile area at the Sheraton, kind of middle of the road pricing. Last year we booked late and got stuck with the Red Roof Inn, which is not worth the price break. For food, I always make sure to make a stop at the Wieners Circle which if I remember correctly is on Clark and Wrightwood….also, Sullivans Steakhouse made the best meal I’ve ever eaten in my life. I realize all of this is a little ways from Wrigley, but we usually take the train up which works well.
Good place to stay near Wrigley...
Hawthorne Terrace. About four blocks walk, nice rooms, reasonable prices.
Book early because this place fills up on game weekends.

I haven't actually been there yet...
...but I’m making a similar trip and we’re staying at the Majestic Hotel which is right near where Addison ends by the lake. About a half-mile from the ballpark, and they get good reviews – and if you go to their site, they offer discounts for multi-night stays.

And I want some help for Friday's game
I’m going to the game on Friday. Have bleacher tickets with my kids. I have gathered already that I need to sit in LF as it is less rowdy.
1) When do the gates open. I want to take the kids to see BP.
2) Since I am driving in for the day, where should I park/park and ride? There will be 6 of us, so keep that in mind for L tickets.
3) Do I understand correctly that you can bring food into the bleachers? Do they allow coolers with food? What kind of beverages are allowed?
ANY help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Gates open at 11:20.
There will be a lot of people in line by then. Get there at least 1/2 hour before then to get a decent seat.
You can bring in food, but not coolers, and no bottles or cans. I can’t really give you advice on parking/riding the L, since you don’t say what direction you are coming from. If you can do that, I may be able to help you.
You can sit in the LF corner near us—generally quieter over there.

Here is a link
to the Cubs website, with some of the particulars you are asking about. Gates open 2 hours before game time. For the bleachers, please add additional time. Depending on the crowd, the line for the bleachers can be a half block, to one block long when the gates open. There are two lines that form for the bleachers. One line along Sheffield Avenue, and the other along Waveland Avenue. The Waveland line is usually a little shorter. Outside food is allowed into the ballpark. I thought that this used to be on the Cubs website, but I don’t see a reference to it anymore.

Regarding parking, if you get there early enough you may be able to legally park on the street. Do check the signage on the block. The parking zoning restrictions do vary from block to block. The enforcements hours also vary. Some have restrictions at all times, some from 6:00PM to 6:00AM, 6:00PM to 9:00AM, and so forth.
