"The Big Rock Cubbie Mountain"

There is a pretty strong segment of folks here that live in an alternate Cubs universe.

I got to thinking about this with regard to todays posts about trades that are just hopes and dreams. Seems like thats the fuel that many people live on...Thanks to Al and everybody here for inspiring me.

DISCLAIMER: This is likely the wrong place for this type of thing, but it did not fit the Fanshots definition (As this is not a link, rather a original work) so I’m posting it. For which I will likely be reprimanded, made fun of, and otherwise embarrassed back into my cave, where I will in time post comments hoping to be ignored.

Star-divide

Seeing as how I had some extra time on my hands I decided to put this to song.

It’s kinda of like "The Big Rock Candy Mountain"... I feel lyrics coming:

The Big Rock Cubbie Mountain

To the Music of “The Big Rock Candy Mountain” – attributed to Harry McClintock

Lyrics by: Steve Silva

Written 7/29/08 (When I should have been working)

In the Big Rock Cubbie Mountains there’s a land that’s fair and bright/

Where homeruns grow on Ivy and Howry gets the save each night/

Where the Wrigley troughs are empty, and Cubs only play in the day/

For Moms and Pops with Lollipops/

Where the Old Style springs, and Ronny sings…/

In the Big Rock Cubbie Mountains

In the Big Rock Cubbie Mountains the Cubs win ev’ry game /

Fans stay off their cell phones, and Sori’s never lame /

The bleachers are full of bums who never drink a drop /

Oh, I’m bound to go where the wind blows out /

With Rami at plate and a hitters count /

In the Big Rock Cubbie Mountains

In the Big Rock Cubbie Mountains no other team exists /

If a fan criticizes the players they’re gonna meet a fist /

They love Johnson and Edmonds, don’t you mention Coco Crisp! /

Where pitching is king, and Rich Hill is done /

And the other Rich is the chosen one /

In the Big Rock Cubbie Mountains

In the Big Rock Cubbie Mountains they don’t worry about stats /

Instead of On Base Percentage, they call it “swingin’ a hot bat” /

They still believe in curses, they’re superstitious don’t ya know /

Oh let me put on my rally cap, and worry about a little black cat /

And blame a nerdy guy for a foul fly catch /

In the Big Rock Cubbie Mountains

In the Big Rock Cubbie Mountains they log onto BCB /

Where Al in all his wisdom made a place for you and me /

The place drips with sarcasm and folks don’t always agree /

But here we are from near and far /

Living in the basement, never drove a car /

In the Big Rock Cubbie Mountains

Thanks

Hopefully with some luck, we’ll get another Pre-Pre Game thread and requests for directions to push this fanpost down far enough on the list that I can avoid getting heckled.

In An Alternate Universe

I wonder how popular the Cubs would have been as the Colorado Cubs playing in Denver in the Big Rocky Cubbie Mountains.

Not a bad takeoff

Now we just need someone to rumble on and sing it.

Bump to the top!
