Cubs fans accused of beating White Sox fan

This is a horrible, disgusting display of behavior from Cub fans.

The story from today's Tribune

Three Cubs fans allegedly beat the living crap out of a White Sox fan sooooo friggin badly, they he lost his right eye. If that despicable behavior isn't bad enough, this awful beating took place during a toddler's Sesame Street themed birthday party.

Way to go you absolutely horrible human beings... thanks for giving Cubs fans an awful name.

McHenry County authorities say three Chicago Cubs fans men face felony battery charges after allegedly beating a Chicago White Sox fan another man so badly he lost his right eye.

That’s how it should read…the media should be partially responsible for tying in something that doesn’t really have a place in the article.

LSA.

This has absolutely nothing to do with baseball and everything to do with alcohol and unbridled thuggery. The fact that it took place at a two-year-old’s birthday party is a nice (read: horrifying) twist.

yeah…it definitely belongs in the Police Beat not the Sports Section

I agree with you 100% that the media could word it better

But the media reports things how they see it. If the fight was over a baseball argument… then it makes sense to attach “Chicago _ fan” to the name, but they should also make it clear that that is what caused the fight. The way that this article is written doesn’t make it seem necessary to attach those particular adjectives to the names, but overall this is a TERRIBLE TERRIBLE story. I feel bad for the white sox fan… not only cause hes a white sox fan, but he got his ass wooped, I hope he recovers alright

Very True

They also report it how we will see it…as evidenced by this story appearing on BCB, when in all actuality if the story is verbatim but not put in the sports section and given the headline with Cubs fans and White Sox Fan we would never even be having this conversation. Sensationalism at its finest.

Yeah but

What if the argument were over which man makes a better steak taco? Would the article appear in the Fine Dining section? Or if the argument was about Metallica being robbed of the Grammy by Jethro Tull would it appear in the Music section?

Also would this have been reported the same way if it happened in January instead of the heat of possibly two pennant races in Chicago?

I doubt it. On all counts.

by BeboThoughts on Jul 29, 2008 12:36 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

My thoughts exactly.

Any person or persons capable of beating a man to that extent over a supposed “baseball discussion” would just as easily do it over a disagreement about a wayward glance at a girlfriend or a failed attempt at paralllel parking. This has nothing to do with baseball, and the Trib is irresponsible for presenting it that way.

Flaw in your argument

Metallica would have to deserve a Grammy before they could be robbed.

Deserve a Grammy? They are more than deserving. I guess they are just a little louder than your Little Richard albums.

According to the Daily Herald article on the story, it started when the three men started taunting Steele about how White Sox fans are all missing teeth.

Common Misconception There….

They are not missing, they are just carefully being stored in their pockets.

Proof that there are idiot fans of every single team.

You could probably replace “Cubs” and “White Sox” with “Red Sox” and “Yankees” and find a similar story. Or if not, something like that probably WILL happen.

Agreed

The bottom line of this story is simply the brutality of certain people. The fact that these brutal people are Cubs fans is coincidental and peripheral.

by BlueSox on Jul 29, 2008 4:55 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

True

And it would be nice if people here responded to such stories in that reasoned way. Instead some even here in this discussion in the face of this ugly crime break out the ugly smears on Sox fans.

Ironic to me that on Sunday two Cub fan friends were amusing themselves and taunting me with how Sox fans are dangerous criminals and how Cub fans were somehow uniquely better than Sox fans.

It's called stereotyping...

which by the way, you contributed to in your series of “quotes” in your profile. Of course, you were only trying to shatter one stereotype by creating another. Human nature…

by 60613 on Jul 29, 2008 11:29 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Judicious?

My comments in the profile are nearly verbatim what’s been said here over, over and over and over again. And if you think that my comments are on par with the stereotypes portrayed ‘round here often then I hope you’re not a judge in any court system.
