I think they're at the point where they need to start pitching him
in no pressure situations-either when the Cubs are getting blown out or they’re up by enough runs that he can’t do too much damage-let him try to work out his problems that way

Carlos Marmol is all screwed up...
Which is very bad news for the Cubs. Outside of Kerry Wood our bullpen is mediocre to lousy. Jim Hendry is definitely going to be in the market for a bullpen arm (or two). And he no doubt will have to significantly overpay.
Pitching is KING. We don't add a frontline starting pitcher and a quality bullpen arm then this season will have yet another sad conclusion.

I don't get the negativity.
We split on the road, just like you are supposed to. We lost to two good pitchers. It sucks that we had a good chance today that didn’t work out, but at least the Cards/Brew Crew are helping us out.
Let’s go get the Cards in St.L and call it good. :)

That's silly
They never play well on the coast, historically. They usually fare better in SF than LA or SD. A split is exactly what I expected. With a depleted roster, what the hell more do you want? Some of the injured are now back—you expect them to be 100%?
Be realistic. The team has the best record in the NL. They’ve lost one game off the lead. This team is treading water, and that’s to be expected right now.
2 of 3 is really necessary in St. Louis. Playing .500 ball against a bad team is fine, under these circumstances—but those 2 kid pitchers threw good games for the Giants.
Try to actually be reasonable, you people. Are you all new here? Are you all bandwagoners?

Nah,
This is a long season, everyone goes through sections of the season where nothing seems to go right. The fans go ballistic, but the manager and players know it happens every season.
Now if they were playing like this late in August, then I sttart to worry.

I hear you Mapmaker but,
if at the end of the season the Cubs win the division by 6 games you will look back on this and laugh at how silly it was to get so worked up over something like this. Moreover, if we win the pennant, and, God willing, the World Series, you will have absolutely no memory of thiis whatsoever!! So take heart. Lets see what we can do with those lousy Cards this weekend.

True true
But it doesn’t make this any easier right now. I’ve seen some horrifying things in my lifetime as a Cub fan and it’s not easy to stay optimistic, Remember the Marlins series late last year. Devastating and the next thing you know, the Cubs win the division. Sometimes I think the season is too long (especially when the Cubs are leading the division!)

This is a "GOOD" team
not a “GREAT” one. With all of the injuries - WHAT DO YOU PEOPLE EXPECT? It’s amazing to me that they have been able to maintain. That’s a great sign for when this team is healthy. Look at the Damn Dodgers - half their team is on the DL, it seems. They are still below .500.
Calm down. Did you expect no slumps, no injuries? If not, you haven’t a clue about the ups and downs of a season. As Al pointed out—look what the Jays did to Boston! Shit happens.
Find some Xanax, or go watch Arena Football. Maybe that won’t upset so many of you here.

There’s a reason he is 9-1 on a very bad team.

I'm all for our newfound patience at the plate, but I think sometimes it hamstrings us
when you’ve got a good pitcher throwing strikes. Patience does not equal looking at fastballs right down the middle. I think that’s led to this team simply not looking very aggressive at times, especially on the road.

Cubs could use another starting pitcher, however
I disagree with sitting Carlos. I think Lou needs to continue to use him until he gets his confidence back. If Lou gives up on him now, we may never get the “White Castle” back.
He’s lost a little confidence, just keep bringing him in, eventually it will all return. Not only that, we get to show the Cardinals what we’re made of this weekend.

The deal with Marmol
With the exception of the HR to Quentin, which was a fluke more than anything, he’s been getting beat when behind in the count and the hitters can sit high fastball. He’s throwing his slider too much early in the count and guys have started taking pitches in the hope he falls behind. If he’s not getting called strikes with his slider, he’s falling behind and his fastball is getting hit. All he has to do is make the adjustment and get ahead with his fastball and wipe them away with his slider. His slider is so filthy that he has fallen into the rut that a lot of guys with one outstanding pitch do and that is falling in love with it. Pitch off his fastball and wipe guys out with the slider and before long, he’ll be dominating again. He’s too good not too. No different than the Ramirez hitting slide.
Who needs a stinkin' tag line? What are they for anyway?

A Sound Explanation
He might even be overthrowing the slider, which is causing it to sail outside. Then he has to throw a “get me over” fastball and KAPOW!
Just hoping it’s a fixable mechanical flaw and not another Mark Prior or Rich Hill scenario.
