Yankees Get Ivan Rodriguez

For our old favorite...Kyle Farnsworth.

Star-divide

Looks like the AL teams are really trying to posture for the stretch run. Although Pudge had been platooning with Brandon Inge, still a nice pickup for the Yanks. Molina wasn't cutting it. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/jon_heyman/07/29/heyman.tradeblog/index.html?bcnn=yes

Interesting, NYY waits for no one

Star gets hurt, go out and reload with another star

Star?

Not anymore, really. Pudge is doing OK but his OPS+ is 101, basically league average. They were desperate after Posada went down. I don’t think they gave up very much.

Who cares? First off, it's the Yanks...

Nothing new for them to go out and get somebody, no matter what the cost. Second, they are in the AL. Next…

Underachiever for Declining Star

I was a fan of Farnsworth when he first came up with the Cubs. That’s before I realized there’s more to pitching than having a 100 MPH fast ball. I-Rod is not the player he used to be, but I think he’ll help the Yankees. He’s still an above average catcher. “Pudge” is a nickname I reserve for Carlton Fisk.

I find this...

To be a curious move on the part of Detroit… I mean I know they need BP help, but is Farnsworth really going to cut it?

by Hilary Lee on Jul 30, 2008 4:23 PM CDT reply actions

Probably not.

He already pitched for them, too, in 2005 after the Cubs traded him there.

Was Pudge...

...not catching much for Detroit? I haven’t paid attention.

He was

but Brandon Inge was in there from time to time as well

when asked about his performance against the Reds - Lieber said the following
"Well obviously I made some bad pitches today, left to many over the plate and they got good wood on the ball. The only good thing was that I was able to get back into the clubhouse earlier then I planned so I could eat."

Seems odd...

...they would bank on Inge to replace the experience of Pudge. They must have someone else in mind to replace him.

I think they could

Have gotten more than Farnsworth.

Yahoo Sports says even trade....

...but I think YOU’d have to give me someone to get me to take Farnsworth. I certainly wouldn’t give you anyone for him, not even a has-been catcher
