Heading to St. Louis - Go Z!!

I was so excited to hear that Z would return tonight!  I've had my July 4th tix in hand for a few months now, what a wonderful surprise to have 1) Zambrano back, 2) Ramirez back and 3) Edmonds in St. Louis for the first time as a Cub.  I can't wait to experience the reception he gets (especially if he gets a big hit!).

Z is the 'losing streak stopper' and the heart and soul of the team.  I'd love to see him go a strong 6 or 7 tonight (I'm sure they'll keep his pitch count low) with a Eyre/Marmol/Wood close.

A-Ram being back should provide lift too and it sounds like Soriano will be there to support the team too.

Have fun

But don’t expect Eyre to pitch – he is still on the DL, I’m pretty sure.

I'll Be There Too Tonight in STL

I’ll be at the 4th and 5th of July games in St. Louis. Seeing Big Z tonight will be a thrill. I don’t know what pitch limit Zambrano will have. I hope he doesn’t throw more than 90 pitches. The reception for Edmonds will be warm. Hopefully, his bat stays hot.

Bring some good luck with you please! :)

I don’t doubt Z is physically ready for tonight, I just hope he doesn’t try to throw it through the backstop. We all know how amped the stocky Venezuelan can get.

I hope Edmonds deposits at least a couple of “forget-me-nots” in the crowd this weekend. Recent statistics suggest he just might. :D

Z is going to be limited to 85-90 pitches.

Let’s hope it’s the efficient Z from early this year—that could be 6-7 innings if so.

Let's end this NOW!

Sweep the series and send the Featherheads 5.5 back. Then worry about the Alcoholics.

It’s Cardinal day. I’m getting my hate on!

Really, there's no need for that.

This is a good rivalry between, I would like to think, teams with good fans. We don’t have to stoop to Yankee/Red Sox level where they really hate each other.

Play ball and win. That’s the best revenge.

Off topic, but..

..speaking of Z coming off the DL; why haven’t I heard any updates on Soriano? Al, what do you know about his hand? Are we still looking at the original diagnosis (6 weeks)? Or is there a chance he returns early? Thanks!

Soriano is going to hit off a tee today.

I assume if there are no issues, he could go on a rehab assignment early next week and maybe return next weekend vs. the Giants.

George Will said it best, Al:

From the essays collected in the book “Bunts.” This was from the 1970s. He referenced a Cardinal fan who sent him a Christmas card every year with Brock in a Cubs uniform.

“When Communists conquer the U.S., they will use Cardinal fans as concentration camp guards.”

I’ve never witnessed the “friendly” part of the rivalry. I think we’re already Yankees/Red Sox level, but without the ESPN coverage.

Maybe.

Still doesn’t mean you have to name-call. Will’s comment says what you said, but without being nasty about it.

I agree with you, Al.

I love going to Cubs Cardinals games, and have met many nice and fun Cardinals fans at Wrigley. They really know the game, love their team, and rib us Cubs fan good-naturedly. Since we’re heading to St. Louis early tomorrow am for our first cubs/cards games in their house, I’m looking forward to more of the same.
