Time for a silencer of an inning.

Bases loaded. nobody out
and only getting one run always makes me nervous. Seems like it comes back to haunt you. Hopefully that won’t be the case today.
Hey, it's a new century!
better than getting
no runs, which has happened to the Cubs before too.

Question
I’ve seen different stuff on Marshall and Gallagher.
Is it after today Lou will determine who stays in the rotation or is Marshall definitely in for at least now?
Maybe he thinks one Sean is enough for a starting rotation.
Being of the heritage myself I heartile approve of 2 irish boys. Sean is the Galeic spelling of the name also spelled Shawn or Shaun.

Give them their due but they can do no wrong according to the national media.
If the team went on a mass shooting spree tomorrow they’d somehow say they are the greatest thing in the world outside the Yanks and Red Sox.
The most nauseating example was after the 9/11 attacks people claiming McGwire showed class by saying the rest of the season should be cancelled to honor the victims and they shoulf just have the playoffs. Or not make up the cancelled games.
McGwire said it for purely selfish reasons. Bonds was about to break his record.
Oh and they and the Astros shook hands when their playoff series was over a few years ago and it was treated like they had just cured cancer, AIDS and the common cold.

Pretty interesting...
Since most BCBers haven’t really seen DeRo play SS, they don’t think he can play there. But, out of the list that I posted, I would regard him as the second best defensive SS behind Izzy. (I’ve seen him play SS about 5 times in person and tons of times on TV.)
Most people would say DeRo has the best bat on that list.

The Indians want immediate help in the OF and at the corners (unless they move Peralta to 3b, in which case they need a SS). The Brewers have those prospects, the Cubs really don’t.

These are the saddest of possible words: "Tinker to Evers to Chance"
ESPN: Brewers "restructuring"
They make it sound like the deal could be failling apart.
With the Cleveland Indians in the process of considering offers for Cy Young Award winner C.C. Sabathia, the Milwaukee Brewers - who seemingly match up better with Cleveland than any other team in the Indians’ need for young position players - restructured their offer for the left-hander Saturday, sources said. But the Brewers are simultaneously preparing for the possibility they may not be the team that lands the veteran left-hander, beginning the process of generating a B-list of alternatives.
The Brewers and Indians have had extensive talks about Sabathia, and if a deal is made, it is likely that Double-A outfielder Matt LaPorta, who has 20 homers for Huntsville, would be in the middle of the package sent to Cleveland. According to sources, the Brewers have been reluctant to part with two of their best prospects, preferring the Indians fill out the trade from a group of players not considered to be at LaPorta’s level.
This deal may not happen till closer to the deadline...
... if at all.

Missouri Tigers 2008 Cotton Bowl Champs
Cotts is looking more and more like the 2005 Cotts.
Good. That’s the one we need.

The Linescore at the top of the main BCB page
isn’t updating – it’s still in the 2nd inning. Same at VEB. And the evil-BCB is several innings behind too.
Call the helpdesk?
Evil BCB?
I would have thought that ws VEB…

Nice job Cubbies!
Although Theriot waving off Rami makes me nervous even when he does have the better angle.

good job Cotts!

If the Padres take Gwynn for a Hall of Famer
That may be the most disrespectful trade I have ever heard.
by louslovechild on Jul 6, 2008 4:24 PM CDT up reply actions
Maddux has a no trade clause...
...so essentially he goes to the team he wants to go to, at this point in his career. So it’d be a trade to be closer to his brother, probably.
The Padres want Gwynn for sentimental reasons.
I'd be surprised if Maddux asked for a deal this soon.
The Padres think they’re still contenders in that wacky division.

I'm pretty sure anyone could compete in the NL West right now

Everyone is
Gotta love Cinderella not only making it to Omaha, but winning it all!
There is no place like Nebraska - Go Huskers!
I highly, highly doubt that
“Sentimental reasons:? They’ll give up their SP who’s eaten up the most innings this season so far for cliche “sentimental reasons”?
That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard in my life.
"I think Hendry still has a few years to serve on his 'grand larceny' sentence before he can shop in Pittsburgh again" - ballhawk
You must lead a sheltered life.
I’m sure I’ve said five stupider things in today’s game threads, if nothing else.
But what you’re not getting here is that Maddux isn’t a trading chip; Maddux choses what team he goes to. That severely drives down his trade value.
C'mon Soto
Let’s get another inning started!

Soto
Is that what a position prospect that pans out looks like? It’s been so long I wasn’t sure.
Go Cubs
anyone else notice..
...it seems like soto keeps hitting late game, solo, home runs?

For every double he has, Piniella grants him a double whopper
You could see the determination of his eyes when he rounded first base.

Daryle Ward huffin’ and puffin’ to 2nd base

It ALMOST makes me want the DH in the NL.
Note, I said “ALMOST”.

Exactly
They can control their own destiny in the NL. Beautiful concept.

Only time
The only time I wouldn’t have minded a DH in the NL was Andre Dawson might have been here longer or had more on field time if he could have DHed some of the time.
We might also have signed Pudge Rodriguez. One of the Cubs concerns was him being able to catch for 4 years when he got that big contract from the Tigers. The Tigers could more afford the risk since they could move him to DH if needed later on.
Go Cubs

Can you add more seats to Wrigley to pay for him ?
How long do you sigh him for?
Nice graphic, TBS
The Dodgers need to acquire “Get Healthy” by the deadline. Anybody know what team has an excess of “Get Healthy” and what they might want for it?

The Dodgers are morons.
They have plenty of good, young prospects they could have played. Instead, they have been consistently signing aging injury risks to block their best prospects, and so now they’re in this spot.
Cubs are trying to see how many runners
they can get thrown out at the plate in one series.
Evidently.

Why wasn't Marquis running for him????
They skipped Jason’s start. What else does he have to do?
