NHL Winter Classic at Wrigley
Not officially confirmed yet, but the report out of Minnesota is that the NHL will indeed hold the Winter Classic at Wrigley on New Years Day between the Hawks and the Red Wings.
According to a knowledgeable source, it’s official. The NHL’s second outdoor Winter Classic will take place New Year’s Day at the storied Wrigley Field when the Blackhawks take on the Stanley Cup-champion Detroit Red Wings.
An announcement is expected next week in the days leading up to the three-day inaugural “Blackhawks Convention” at the Chicago Hilton.
I'm really looking forward to this. My immediate question, of course, is whether Cubs season ticket holders will have an opportunity to buy tickets.

I too hope Cub season ticket holders get a chance to buy tickets.
I’d love to go.

Great Sport In Person; Terrible on TV
I like watching hockey in person more than any other sport. I hate watching hockey on TV more than any other sport. I had to be dragged to my first hockey game in 1998 to see the “AA” then-Memphis Riverkings. The speed and grace of the game can not be appreciated on TV. I didn’t know hockey had “grace” until I saw a game in person. With all the minor league stuff that has come and gone through here over the years, the Riverkings have managed to stay afloat in Memphis and now north Mississippi since 1992. Seeing an NHL game in person outdoors at Wrigley will be wonderful for those of you lucky enough to go.

The only thing
It would be kind of odd if the first sporting event to take place at Wrigley after the Cubs won the series was a hockey game.
Go Cubs

This was 99% 'done' weeks ago
Bettman had a few things to iron out with the Cubs and the city, plus the NHL wanted wait until after the draft (6/20), the opening of FA (7/1) and the start of the Blackhawks convention (7/18) to officially announce it. Our ol’ buddy John McDonough is doing with the ‘Hawks what he’s done for so many years with the Cubs; and it’s no coincidence his old employer and his new employer are linked together in this by him and him only.

sweet stuff,
I’d love to go, but probably can’t get tickets that aren’t horribly expensive, and I’ll probably be “stuck” going somewhere warm for a bowl game with the UW band.

i'd guess...
...that blackhawks season ticket holders will get first dibs on tickets before cubs season ticket holders.
