Red Wings v Blackhawks at Wrigley - 1/1/09

Just announced on ESPN... here's the Trib's take...

CHICAGO - According to a published report, it looks like there will be hockey at Wrigley Field, the home of the Chicago Cubs.

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that the Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings plan to participate in the National Hockey League's third outdoor game on New Year's Day, and want to use the North Side ballpark as the site.

An announcement is expected next week before the Blackhawks Convention at the Chicago Hilton.

Edit:  Just realized there was a fanpost about this from yesterday.  This serves as the "official" notice post (yeah, that's my excuse!) plus as a 'bump' to the top.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of SB Nation or Al Yellon, editor-in-chief (unless it's a FanPost posted by Al). FanPost opinions are valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable baseball fans.

Go Blackhawks

Being a huge Blackhawks fan (they are only behind the Cubs and Bears for me) I am so excited about the way the team is heading and hiring McDonough was a great move.

And they have the best fight song in sports just slightly ahead of Bear Down Chicago Bears and Go Cubs Go.

I am so there if possible.

Another sign in a weird way this may be our year

Weird things will happen the year we win it all.

And it would be weird that the year after we win the series the first sporting event at Wrigley would not be opening day.
