It just seems like the last two nights the cubbies have been doing it all right. I think that the trades and such may have lit a fire and the boys are saying “This is our division”. They seem to be playing with a little more fire the last two nights is all.

Dodgers versus Braves have a combined no-hitter going into the bottom of the 5th.

Think that game might get over before Cards-Phils.

Some facts...

...we are 4.5 ahead in the division, the biggest lead tied with the Angels’ 4.5 lead. We are 19 games over .500, the high watermark of the season is 20 games, last reached on June 24. We are tied for the most wins (55), and 2nd least losses (36). And our run differential is at +110, best in the bigs, second is Boston with +91. Cardinals are +16 and the Brewers, +9.

The league has caught up

With kookie the issue (I believe) is that the league has caught up a little. Been able to scout him much more and figured out what he is and what he isnt. That being said, he is a professional and will make his own adjustments. I think I saw tonight he was at .290 or so. His first year in the league I would take it. And It think he is hitting higher with RISP. He will make adjustments, pitchers will make adjustments. He is a fun hitter to watch though, that is for sure

by jajonez77 on Jul 9, 2008 10:17 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

back in the day my brother (who is a total bandwagon jumper)

was a huge braves fan. And I had to sit through YEARS of him waving their success in my face as I stuck by my Cubbies. So I get a bit of a kick out of the Braves not doing as well as the Cubs, not going to lie.

Totally!!!

He’s not horrible, like he’s always liked the yankees, but he was an As fan, then a Braves fan, then a Mariners fan (although that seems to be sticking since he lives in Washington now) and it’s like DUDE!!! STOP!!!

I’m definitely the die hard in the family. My loyalties don’t waiver. ;)

There was a great day though where Dunston hit a grand slam and my brother totally called it. Back in like the 80s/early 90’s…Dunston came to the plate with the bases juiced and my bro was like “he’s going to hit a home run, I know it” and sure enough. It was sweet.:)

A) A huge offense output (like that Marlins/Rockies game last week)

I'm torn

the occassional game like that Rockies game is a blast. 18-17. Just a fun watch.

but a pitcher’s duel NEVER gets old. A 2-1 or 3-2 game is always a good watch.

I just like a well played game, I guess.

by halfblindcubbiegirl on Jul 9, 2008 10:44 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think my problem with the former is that

in an 18-17 game mistakes are rampant (not sure if that was the case the other day, but usually). There are errors that open up big innings, and that’s not fun. Well, it’s okay in AAA but not what I want in the majors.

These are the saddest of possible words: "Tinker to Evers to Chance"

by slcathena on Jul 9, 2008 10:46 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

True in most cases

but it was good offense for the most part in that game. A few HRs but lots of hits, good ABs, etc. It was a fun game. But its not something you’d want EVERY game, ya know?

But games like this one where both pitchers are “on” are great all the time.
