That''s why you wait for the ump to call it ball four, Riot

It was a bad call I agree

but Theriot didn’t help himself there. Umps hate that.

by JohnM on Aug 1, 2008 3:37 PM CDT up reply actions

Doesn't excuse it.

A ball is a ball is a ball. The ump shouldn’t call it strike simply cos you feel the batter showed you up by walking to first. It’s ridiculous.

Not to be too obnoxious, but...

A ball is whatever the ump says it is. No recourse. :^(

by arioso on Aug 1, 2008 3:40 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah...

But if he’s waiting to see Theriot’s reaction before calling it and adjusting accordingly THAT’S bullshit. Same for a 3-0 pitch just needing to be somewhere in the vicinity of the plate.

Marquis is crap man.

IMO, random quality starts makes you a bad pitcher because consistency is one of the best characteristics of a good starting pitcher. Occasional poor outings are going to happen. Heck, even if he had a predictable schedule of bad/good starts, we would be better off.

I understand why Cards fans called him BiPolar Betty.

Calm down.

it’s a quality start in the record books. Especially with the capabilities of our offense… it was an adequate outing. Not Z/Harden/even Lilly quality, but not sure I’d call it crap.
