Spreadsheet fun - Cubs August Record

With all of the talk of how the Cubs will fare in August, the geek in me decided to put together a spreadsheet for predicting the Cubs' record, along with their progress:

1z5lwe9_medium

I'm not much on making predictions, so feel free to save yourself a copy--it's an Excel 2003 file.  Just type a W or L (upper case!) in the Predicted or Actual column.  Have fun, and GO CUBS!  Let's start with a W today!

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of SB Nation or Al Yellon, managing editor (unless it's a FanPost posted by Al). FanPost opinions are valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable baseball fans.

I don't see the Cubs

wiining every series except one… a little too optimistic for me.

But they have been known to get really hot at home.

19 wins in August?

Gusty. I like it. :D

You gonna post at the end of the month with your record?

’’If somebody had told me we were going to lose Soriano for eight weeks, lose [Carlos] Zambrano and Kerry Wood for a couple of weeks apiece, and then at the same time lose [Reed] Johnson, and then when we played the American League not have a DH [then-injured Daryle Ward], and be in first place by two games, I’d tell you we were pretty fortunate.’’ Lou Piniella (7/23/08)

Gusty?

Of course, it’s the Windy City after all!

54 games left

If the Cubs went 27-27, the Brewers/Cards would have to go 32-22 just to tie.
If the Cubs went 32-22, the Brewers/Cards would have to go 37-17 just to tie.

I can easily see the Cubs going 32-22, but I doubt either of those teams will go 37-17.

I agree...

I’ve now got it at LWLW for those four games. Hey, who cares? We’ll have clinched 2 weeks ago by then…:)

Update...

OK, OK…I was just sort of randomly throwing Ws and Ls out there before. Here’s an updated image. I’m posting it as a link, since it is coming up distorted when I try to add it as an image:

I’m now predicting 16-12 for August. Drewishdrewid, that’s a good idea. I’ll post it again at the end of August, and if I feel like it, I’ll make another one for September.

17-11 Record in August

No one should complain, if the Cubs do that. That would put them at 82-55, going into September.

If we end up building a huge lead by the end of August

We might coast through September to rest some of our big guns, which would depress our total wins. It worked for the Red Sox last year

how did you get that...

spreadsheet to post in the page. I have tried to do that before. I just thought to my self…a screen shot???

by bleed that blue on Aug 1, 2008 2:31 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I took a screen grab from Excel, saved it as a jpg, then saved it up to tinypic (free!). It’s easier on the start page of a fanpost—there’s an “Insert Image” button.

Well...

... the first game on the sheet is already wrong. So the Cubs will have to make the third game on the sheet wrong, too, to keep pace.

er...

that got resized, so you might want to just go to the direct URL of the image (right click > view image in firefox)

I think I'd rather just enjoy the season unfolding in front of me day by day.
