What's the over/under on "Banks Boulevard" references from Joe Morgan?
The critical thing to understand is that major-league pitchers don't appear to have the ability to prevent hits on balls in play. There are many possible reasons why this is the case, and I don't really have a concrete idea as to why it is.
But the one thing I do know is that it is the case.

I remember back in the Wild Card run in 1998
During the last few days, he took to saying how a game-winning hit for Sosa was an example of Sammy just taking what he could get, not swinging for the fences, etc. Sosa told him that wasn’t true, he was just trying to hit the ball the same way he always did. Morgan kept telling the story anyway.

Blame Pinella, not Dome
He doesn’t bat himself second, Lou does and there is no excuse to bat a guy hitting barely .200 the past 1/4 of the season #2 in the lineup. None.
Good point.
"I've never complained about it. I'm thankful to have a jersey." Mark DeRosa, 22 Aug 2007
I guess I can agree NOW (ex post facto), but maybe Lou wanted to shake Dome out of

We all understand what Pinella is trying to do with Dome
The same thing Baker did with Corey, batting him 1st or 2nd weeks, maybe months past when he should have been dropped. But August pennant races are not really the type for psychological experiments. In fact, I think batting a struggling guy 2nd only increased the pressure on the player, bat him lower down, take the pressure off a bit and let him find his stroke. I’m not sure there is a good answer here – to be honest he should probably be benched more in favor of RJ.
Way to hustle Rami!!!!!

Cosell famously called an African American running back a "monkey"...
as in “look at that little monkey go…”. He stated that it was a term of endearment in his household growing up for children running around the house….but it was the beginning of the end for his ABC broadcasting career.
Now that I’ve explained it, probably a bit of a reach for quick-witted humor….

Useless stat of the night...
That was Dero’s 7th SF of the season. He’s tied for third in the NL.

Now I know what my Red Sox fan friend meant
when he said one of the best things about the Sox winning in 2004 was the end of “Babe Ruth 1918” talk.
When the media gets a theme they are like a rabid dog; they never let go.

Not really
They could be working the count…but I will say that they have been hitting the ball hard. So I’m not worried…yet.

I was going to say the same thing.
As frustrated as I am by the short innings, it does seem that they are seeing the ball out of his hand. I do think we will get a big inning off Carpenter eventually. I will stop complaining.
Pound the Carpenter!!

Exactly

Bob Costas is interviewing George W. Why is he there…?
its not like he has any real work to do....or else he would have done something
over the last 7+ years
To cheer our team.
Other countries leaders are there too.

TLR will not give Edmonds credit for the catch
"Every team will win 60 games, every team will lose 60 games, it's what the team does in the other 42 games that decides the season."
That's what I was getting at...
Just being an ass, when asked about that catch.
