What's the over/under on "Banks Boulevard" references from Joe Morgan?

The critical thing to understand is that major-league pitchers don't appear to have the ability to prevent hits on balls in play. There are many possible reasons why this is the case, and I don't really have a concrete idea as to why it is.

But the one thing I do know is that it is the case.

I remember back in the Wild Card run in 1998

During the last few days, he took to saying how a game-winning hit for Sosa was an example of Sammy just taking what he could get, not swinging for the fences, etc. Sosa told him that wasn’t true, he was just trying to hit the ball the same way he always did. Morgan kept telling the story anyway.

He doesn’t bat himself second, Lou does and there is no excuse to bat a guy hitting barely .200 the past 1/4 of the season #2 in the lineup. None.

We all understand what Pinella is trying to do with Dome

The same thing Baker did with Corey, batting him 1st or 2nd weeks, maybe months past when he should have been dropped. But August pennant races are not really the type for psychological experiments. In fact, I think batting a struggling guy 2nd only increased the pressure on the player, bat him lower down, take the pressure off a bit and let him find his stroke. I’m not sure there is a good answer here – to be honest he should probably be benched more in favor of RJ.

Cosell famously called an African American running back a "monkey"...

as in “look at that little monkey go…”. He stated that it was a term of endearment in his household growing up for children running around the house….but it was the beginning of the end for his ABC broadcasting career.

Now that I’ve explained it, probably a bit of a reach for quick-witted humor….
