You don’t need to Dusty “smart hack” or whatever, but there’s no reason to just sit there and take pitches for taking pitches’ sake.

Anybody have the actual stats?

Sounds like that might be a misleading stat though. As the Cubs lead the NL (or maybe all of MLB) in OBP it stands to reason they’d hit into a lot of double plays because they have a LOT of men on base.

Hey, it's a new century!

I don't care how good the first pitch is. was that really the pitch he was looking for???

he did have much better patience early in the year. Now—ants in the pants.

I just wonder what his approach was in that at bat as he swung at a breaking ball low in the zone—what was he looking for?

THIS IS OUR CENTURY!!

What do people here think of this:

“We need him to start hitting,” Cubs manager Lou Piniella said before Sunday night’s game against the Cardinals. “If not, I’m going to have to start looking for other options.”

I couldn't understand how they were trying to stretch Carpenter back into a starter only 12+ mos

after surgery. I heard many experts say that at best, he should have been penciled for short relief this season.

Looks like the experts were right. Let’s hope it is nothing serious. They really should just use this guy in the pen, if he is OK for the rest of the year.

Honestly, I was thinking about this last week with Joba...

if a manager suddenly wants a pitcher out, then if he gets “injured” then the new pitcher gets as much time as he wants to warm up. That way if an inning gets out of control, he can get a new guy in there without warming him up in the bullpen. That being said, I heavily doubt that went on here. This inning was not out of control.

I have been thinking about an interesting idea for a running post for all of you who live in Chicago....

I am a cub fan who lives in St. Louis, and I don’t get to have many cub conversations with actual cub fans. One thing that I noticed years ago was that people in chicago were calling Joe Borowski “Joe Blowsaveski” towards the end. Now…..I liked the guy, but I thought that was a pretty funny twist on his name once things started going sour. Heck, my brother and I used to refer to Kyle Farnsworthless (much less catchy). What I was hoping to hear (and not to be negative) is what funny nicknames names you all used or remembered from cubs past players when they were slumping (feel free to leave current cubs off of it, I don’t want any negativity started here). However, I just have been wondering what entertaining names I have missed out on by not living there or attending games regularly. Do tell…

Edmonds is such a class guy.

He thought he slid into Glaus’ leg, and before the play was over, you could hear him ask if he was OK….

by Jimsil on Aug 10, 2008 9:00 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

class guy?

are you joking?

by cubswynn on Aug 10, 2008 9:01 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Edmonds has been classy.

Why so negetive tonite wynn?

flipping your bat isn’t showing class…..and that doesn’t really bother me

by cubswynn on Aug 10, 2008 9:04 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

No joke....I like the guy...

And making sure you didn’t hurt the guy with your slide was a class move….

Care to disagree???

by Jimsil on Aug 10, 2008 9:04 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

it was

however he is a showboat (which doesn’t bother me) and i’m sorry, in my book being a showboat isn’t classy

Call it showboating.....

I don’t…..I saw it as more of saying …

Screw you, TONY!!!

There’s a difference between talking the talk, and walking the walk….
He walked it Friday afternoon.

okay and that's not a classy move....sorry

and let me repeat, it doesn’t bother me at all that edmonds is the way he is

by cubswynn on Aug 10, 2008 9:10 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

he may show boat alot

but it doent mean he doesnt have class

No, he has conducted himself with nothing but class since he's been here....

Let my ashes blow in a beautiful snow from the prevailing 30 mile an hour southwest wind...

And I will come to my final resting place, out on Waveland Avenue. --Steve Goodman
