Minor League Wrap--August 10
Iowa Cubs
The I-Cubs lost to the Round Rock Express, 4-1.
Starter Mike Burns allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk over six innings. Burns struck out four.
Shortstop Luis Figueroa was 2 for 3.
By the way, Forbes Magazine ranked the Iowa Cubs as the 12th most valuable franchise in minor league baseball worth $20.8 million, which is slightly more than the Tribune paid for the Cubs in 1981. The Sacramento River Cats were judged to be the most valuable minor league franchise at $29.8 million.
Tennessee Smokies
The Smokies topped the Chattanooga Lookouts, 9-7.
Mark Holliman got his second win for the Smokies by starting and allowing three runs over five innings. Holliman got tagged for seven hits. He walked three and struck out four.
Casey Lambert ran into some trouble in the ninth. Brought in to get the last out, he allowed two runs on two hits and a walk before finally ending the game.
Left fielder Tyler Colvin was 3 for 5 with two double and a home run. Colvin had four RBI. That's good, but he's also only walked one time in the last ten games and that concerns me.
Sam Fuld was 4 for 4 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored.
Daytona Cubs
Daytona got hammered by the Jupiter Hammerheads, 8-4.
James Russell isn't pitching any better in High-A than he was in AA. Russell only lasted 3.1 innings tonight and gave up six runs on seven hits and two walks. Russell struck out three.
Third baseman Jonathan Mota was 2 for 5 with a double and a run scored. Left fielder Ty Wright was 2 for 5 with an RBI. Catcher Steve Clevenger went 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored. Robinson Chirinos was 2 for 3 with a triple.
Peoria Chiefs
The Chiefs snuck by the Beloit Snappers, 7-6.
Center fielder Brandon Guyer was 2 for 4 with his 12th home run of the season. Guyer scored twice and had two RBI.
Left fielder Jonathan Wyatt was 1 for 4 with a walk and his fourth home run for Peoria. Wyatt scored twice. Third baseman Jovan Rosa went 1 for 5 with a two-run home run. It was Rosa's seventh home run of the year.
First baseman Luis Bautista was 2 for 4 with two doubles and two runs scored.
DH Elvis Lara was 2 for 4 with two RBI.
Boise Hawks
The Hawks surrendered three runs in the ninth inning to lose to the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, 4-3.
Aussie starter Ryan Searle has been very impressive in his first two appearances for Boise. Searle pitched five shutout innings and allowed three hits. He didn't walk a batter and struck out six.
Bubba O'Donnell gave up those runs in the ninth to take the loss. O'Donnell pitched two innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits.
Josh Vitters extended his hitting streak to 17 games by going 2 for 4 with a double. Vitters scored once. Right fielder Kyler Burke was 2 for 4 with two runs scored.

His bat
wasn’t supposed to be this good this quick. It was supposed to settle a bit. As such, I wouldn’t worry too much about him. His receiving skills are still good and that is his calling card.
AAA Redbirds-#2 in Value
I was a little surprised to the see the AAA Redbirds at #2 on the value list. I thought they would be the in the top 10, but not as high as #2. The Redbirds still draw very well, but not quite as well as they have in the past. There is absolutely no problem in getting people to a Saturday night game with fireworks afterwards. They can get crowds of 15000+ for those games. The modest drop in ticket sales is from the midweek games.
The magic number for the I-Cubs is down to 18. There is a good chance Iowa will clinch the division in Memphis between August 25-28.

Any word on Vitters?
I assume he will finish out in Boise? No upper movement. I guess since Peoria will make the playoffs he will stay in Boise.
Thinking out loud. Glad he is hitting the ball.
"Have You heard of the Boom on Mizar 5?"
Haven't heard anything
but he got another hit tonight.
