Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

This just in...Carlos Lee out for the season...

Just like with Chris Carpenter...you hate to hear about a person getting injured, but this is something that makes me a bit more comfortable about facing the Astros in September...

He got hit in his pinky finger by a pitch from Bronson Arroyo.  Sheesh, I thought this sort of thing only happened to the Cubs.  Hope he feels better...but once again, I've feared this guy since his walk-off grand slam against the Cubs in 2001 or 2002 when he played for the White Sox.

I was typing up my Carlos Lee post while you posted this....

Al… forgive the redundancy.

I'm not going to even bother trying to update this sig everyday anymore... that's what the standings column on ESPN is for.

I deleted mine....

You wouldn’t know it, if you looked on ESPN anywhere, but one of the biggest Cub killers of all-time is on the 15 day DL after breaking his left little finger. The houston Chronicle is reporting that he is likely done for the season, and the Houston media wants to see the Astros sign Barry Bonds to replace Lee in LF.

How does this news not even make it to the “sub-headline” section on ESPN baseball?

well, no where

does it ask how Joba’s doing. Did they get Steinbrenner’s opinion?

How is Joba doing?

I haven’t been able to sleep. Did anyone from ESPN ask the Chinese Olympic delegation what they thought of Joba’s injury?

by Shanghai Badger on Aug 11, 2008 12:25 PM CDT up reply actions

Nope. But they did

ask the Australian men’s basketball team about Brett Favre.

True fact!

(It was Bogut. I guess they figured that because he played basketball in Milwaukee he’s have special insight. Or that he cared.)

It was on their site the other day.

This isn’t really breaking news, it’s a couple of days old.

by cubswin on Aug 11, 2008 11:16 AM CDT reply actions

yes it is

2 days old and already discussed in several threads.

First I heard of it

And I’m reading all over mlb.com every day

Well...

... this is the first time I’ve heard it was CONFIRMED that Lee is out for the year. So this post is OK with me.

Anyway, I don’t wish injury on anyone… but I can’t say I’m unhappy the Cubs won’t have to face him again this year.

Ed Wade is the only person on the planet who thinks the Astros are competitive

Too bad to see Carlos Lee go down. But lets be honest, the Astros absolutely suck with or without Lee. They haven’t been in contention for 5 minutes this season.

by MDBNIU on Aug 11, 2008 12:23 PM CDT reply actions

But it DIRECTLY impacts the Cubs

because there are some pretty important games down the stretch that I would rather play without having to face Carlos Lee in their lineup…

FWIW

Cubs play Houston 6 times and Milwaukee plays them 3. They also play St. Louis, Arizona and Florida 3 times and the Mets 4.

The rest of the Astros’ schedule should have no bearing on any race.

Unless they go 40-5 the rest of the way...

then they could challenge for a playoff spot!

As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.

LOL

I was actually surprised to look at the standings today and see them only a game under .500.

Damn that weak NL Central Division!

That is what they said at the beginning of the season, isn’t it?

"Every team will win 60 games, every team will lose 60 games, it's what the team does in the other 42 games that decides the season."

Houston will never sign Bonds.

Remember how they raucously cheered when he got plunked? Down there they would boo Hank Aaron for breaking the record, let alone Bonds.

Cecil Cooper said he'd quit if the Astros signed Bonds.

Despite the fact he owns the Cubs

I really like Carlos Lee. I have sat behind him more than a couple times in LF and he is great with the fans. Hes the type of guy that doesnt really offended by a comment from the stands but more a guy that turns and laughs and acknowledges that great comment.

On the topic—-biggest jerk ever IMO. Albert Belle. End of story.

If Lee had ever become a Cub...

... he’d have been one of the most popular Cubs ever. He just seems like he loves playing baseball and everything that’s involved, including the opposition’s fans.

+1

A guy like Carlos, to me, I can look up to because despite money and controversy and winning and losing he is playing the game and loving it.
