Sunday Photos: Cubs 6, Cardinals 2
Some more memories from last night's big win:

Aramis Ramirez slides into second base safely after Ryan Ludwick's error in the second

Alfonso Soriano pulling into second after leading off the five-run sixth with a double
Three batters later, Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter has to leave the game with "tightness" in his arm. Again. (Note ESPN camera guy on the field)

Jeff Samardzija striking out Ryan Ludwick to end the seventh

Still playing great defense even while he's in a hitting slump, Kosuke Fukudome makes a diving catch on Felipe Lopez's sinking liner in the 9th

It didn't help, darnitall.
Hope the Nats suck just as bad two weeks from now when they’re at Wrigley Field.

I'm seriously wondering how many AAA teams would beat Washington.
This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again.

Or San Diego. Or Seattle.

I'd say the Iowa Cubs could
and I am not joking

It's been a while.
You’d have to check their boxscores, but they didn’t do it in the Cub series either.

dunn to the dbacks
can anyone confirm this??
from the mouth of Uecker:
"Am I the only one who’s glad it’s only a 4-game series? If was a 9-game series, I think the Cubs would win them all."
Apparently Arizona radio is mentioning this

Groan.
not the guy I’d want to see in Wrigely in the playoffs! He kills us in Chicago.

Re: Carpenter
He didn’t have tightness in his arm, he had a strained right triceps.
CUBS WIN! CUE THE ORCHESTRA!
The problem is that "right triceps tightness" could mask a more serious injury.
Check here:
“right triceps tightness”...might as well include the rotator cuff. In my clinical experience, I have seen very few baseball pitchers present with a pure, isolated “triceps strain”—rather, there is almost always an involvement of the rotator cuff muscles in what is called the “Quadrangular Space.”
A triceps strain could be masking some other issue. I hope that Carp is OK, but there might be a more significant problem happening here.
Argh.
What a terrible club the Nats are…and the Cubs lost 2 of 3 to them!
Argh.

Take care of our own buisness
With the schedule the way it is the rest of the way, the Cubs shouldn’t count on any help from the disaster that is the National League! I’ve watched too many Padres, Pirates, Nationals, Braves, etc, etc games to know that the Cubs just better win their games.

Typical Brewers game
They have 3 runs…on 3 hits. Seems they’re about as homer-happy as the ‘04 Cubs were. I remember that team couldn’t score unless it was with the long ball.

Brewers gave the Nats 5 outs last inning
and the Nats could not even get a runner to 3rd.
Current temperature in hell: 45 degrees F - and falling!
Guess there's no help coming there.
Hopefully San Diego can shock them.

This part of the country is really lame....
The worthless Nationals play only a Metro ride away from my home, and yesterday I took one of my kids 25 miles up I-95 to see the Orioles lose 15-7. The Baltimore-Washington area is pathetic in baseball….
6-1 Brewers
so the lead will likely be cut to 3.5 by 5 pm.

THAT IS THE WORST BASEBALL TEAM I HAVE SEEN ALL YEAR
NO KIDDING. We lost 2 of 3, I know, but they had a few more players. Half of these players I have never heard of, and the ones I have heard of are way past their prime.
"How's your mother?"
"She's on her way out."
"We all are. Act accordingly."
"This one here is dead"
“Cross him off then.”

Four-game sweep of the Nats
or four-game sweep of the Crew? Hmm…

ESPN guys
Did anyone else hear Jon Miller call Sheffield Ave. “Waveland?” These Sunday night dolts just won’t put a sock in it.
Nats score 5 runs in 40 innings in four games.
That’s pathetic.

And the Brewers tried hard to give away Sunday's game
From what I’ve read, they tried a little bit to give away Monday’s, too.
Go Padres.

The Brewers
are shockingly bad at defense. In fact, it could be summed up thusly:
BRWERS DEFENSE = JOE MORGAN ANNOUNCING
Yeah, that bad…
"Why does that man drop his club before he runs? I would bring it with me." ~Stewie Griffin
It's still gotta be a bit depressing for the Brew Crew
as they have won nearly every game since we swept them, and have made up exactly 1.5 games on the Cubs (with .5 of that simply because the Cubs had a day off).
The Brewers can’t stay hot like this forever, and neither can the Cubs. My bet- they lose 4 of 6 on the west coast trip.

I hope you're right.
It should be a tough trip for the Brewers. San Diego is bad, though.
by Shanghai Badger on Aug 11, 2008 5:32 PM CDT up reply actions
I hope so. This their second 5+ win streak that I can remember. they seem to get all the AAA teams and rack up the wins. The Cubs seem to get the playoff contenders…....could it be that teams are getting up to play the cubs and don’t really care about the brewers?
That's what I think
you always want to get jacked up to take down the top dog, particularly the Cubs, as we’ve been getting a fair amount of national press because we’ve been winning.
That allows the Brewers a certain amount of latitude to “fly below then radar” and sneak up on ya. That’s pretty much what happened to the Cubs last year – they got hot in June and started winning, catching up on the Brewers when no one was really looking out for them. There’s a certain amount of role reversal this year with the Cubs and Brewers – the Brewers would like to pull off what the Cubs did last year in winning the division, but I doubt they will.
Poll results from STL Post Dispatch:
After watching him prance around Wrigley this weekend, what’s your opinion of Jim Edmonds?
59%
Still a pretty good ballplayer—wish the Cards still had him
41%
He’s an arrogant showboat—I’ve never been happier that he’s gone
Votes: 1,013
Well....
...the proof is in the poll. The majority tastefully said that the Cards could use him and they still like him, even though he’s on the Cubs. The majority of St. Louis fans are A) intelligent, and B) good people.
Hence why Cubs-Cards is the best rivalry in baseball, in my opinion. Two passionate, knowledgeable fanbases who still can be civil to each other.
Great homestand
Everything has been covered and this might have been as well, but it sure is nice to see Ramirez getting into second last night because of hustle. Not only has he gotten into better shape but he the concerns of his hustle have all but disapeared since Lou came to town. Remember every year around the All Star break we would hear about leg issues, hopefully that is a thing of the past.
Side note, of course my day off had to coincide with the Cubs day off, oh well, here’s to a 4-2 road trip.
Lets do it Cubbies
It's the high socks.
As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.
