One of these quotes was NOT from Joe Morgan.  Without doing any searching, can you guess which one is not from him?:

There they are all said by Joe Morgan except for one.  Credit goes to BCB reader daeviant for the idea, as well as Al for approving of it.  The answer will be posted tomorrow in this thread.  Feel free to make new or funnier Famous Quotes as I'm sure there are plenty out there.

I got to say C

If said on purpose that would be really clever. It almost sounds like a Yogism.

Gah

I should have saved that. Hopefully people will vote before reading the comments. Of course, we could be wrong.

C sounds like something

Ron might say. :D

It's hard to imagine

any of these being real. I guess that’s live TV for ya. I went with B, though.

I got a good one...

“Winning is easy, all you have to do is score more then the other team”. That sounds like something Joe might say but it was Ted Turner.

Didn't Madden say something along the lines of

“The team that puts the most points on the scoreboard is probably gonna win the game.”

Don’t forget: “The most important part of the rotation is starting pitching.”

This FanPost only makes me hate Joe Morgan even more.

Joe Morgan last night

Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I’d hate to subject anyone to his nonsense by quoting anything here.

I’m almost tempted to by a sportsync for the 5-10 national games a year.

It has to be C

Not because he wouldn’t say something so stupid, but he would never admit he forgot to say something.

haha! that was my thinking too!

Great Fanpost

even though the site of joe morgan makes me sick

from the mouth of Uecker:

"Am I the only one who’s glad it’s only a 4-game series? If was a 9-game series, I think the Cubs would win them all."

He oddly looked red last night

Completely made up...

A once in a life time opportunity only comes along two or three times.

I don’t think anyone ever said this, but I found it funny. The sad part is I wouldn’t be surprised if heard Joe Morgan say it.

You forgot one:

“Bobby Cox told me years ago that Mark DeRosa can really hit; he just couldn’t find a place to play him.”

The ultimate Yogi Morganism: that a manager could not find room for an excellent bat with a guy who can play anywhere on the field.

"I've never complained about it. I'm thankful to have a jersey." Mark DeRosa, 22 Aug 2007

All these sound made up...

and at the same time they all sound so Joe Morgan.

Gotta be D

Would he say that speed and stolen bases don’t matter?

"That’s what I love about my skip, man. He’ll tell you that you suck...I know I suck. We know we suck...Yeah, we suck. But we’ll see who sucks at the end."
- Gary Sheffield

Interesting insight into the man that is Joe Morgan...

I hate the guy as much as anybody. But a while back I learned an interesting story about Morgan that at least for me helps explain why he is the way he is, particularly with his Jesse Jackson-ish defense of black ballplayers who happen also to be douches (e.g., Bonds, Sheffield). Apparently a number of years ago Morgan was walking down the concourse at the San Francisco airport on his way to catch a flight when he was, completely out of the blue, gang tackled and cuffed by roughly a dozen federal agents and members of the San Francisco police force. It turns out that it was a case of mistaken identity as the agents and police were on the lookout for some criminal. Needless to say Morgan was scarred and bitterly angry over what happened. Investigation into the matter later proved it was a clear case of racial profiling. So maybe that helps explain a little bit about Morgan.

Thats fine

but drag your attitude and ego to the booth. Everyone has had wrongs, bad luck, and general hardships in life. Joe should leave his ego and bitterness out of the booth.
Jeez from the outside the guy is a HOFer, MVP and World Series winner, and now gets paid well by ESPN, sorry one instance at the San Fran airport doesn’t give him a pass on life.

You can also put quotes of his generic answer to every sort of question.

For example:

Joe, how do you see the Phillies doing the rest of the year?

“Joe Morgan: Well, I really don’t know how the Phillies will do. If Rollins gets consistent and performs like he did in his MVP season, they could be great, because he’s as important to the team as Sheffield is the Tigers, but who knows how he’ll do. But their pitchers have been able to concetrate and get consistent enough to perform well on a regular basis. But I really don’t know at this point, we’ll have to just watch them play the games.” (Typos and grammar mistakes intentional)

Those really bug me

The complete non-answers to the easy softball questions Miller serves up. “Well, it just depends”. “I don’t really know”. “We’ll have to wait and see.” etc.

My next sig line quote will also be from Lou Piniella, and the first word will be either "Look", or "Listen", followed by a comma.

by JohnM on Aug 12, 2008 7:12 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well....

A. Jon Miller is a cartoon figure. It strikes me that Joe Morgan thinks Miller is an idiot and that the cammeraderie between the two is very forced.

B. Joe Morgan must be doing something right to have his high profile, high paying gig on the major networks covering the game of the week and the playoffs. Obviously SOMEBODY likes Morgan.

by MDBNIU on Aug 12, 2008 10:16 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

A. Where you hear Morgan condescending to Miller, I hear him treating the viewer like an idiot—because Miller’s innocent questioner shtick is supposed to represent all of us watching.

B. You would think, and it is logical, but has anyone ever spoken to or read anything writen by a supporter of Joe Morgan the broadcaster?

My next sig line quote will also be from Lou Piniella, and the first word will be either "Look", or "Listen", followed by a comma.

by JohnM on Aug 12, 2008 4:52 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

AND THE ANSWER IS:

C: 46% of you got it right. Most of you seemed to find it hard to believe that Joe Morgan would admit to forgetting to say something, and you are right. That Quote belongs to Ron Fairly who is/was an announcer. Thanks for playing, and maybe someone else can come up with another good bout of “Famous Quotes” on our next off day.

For those who don't already know

There’s a plethora of online chats done by Joe Morgan (and many other ridiculings of stupid sportswriting and analysis) over at www.firejoemorgan.com.
