Andrew Greeley at it again...

What is it with Andrew Greeley?  Why does he feel compelled to smear and put down Sox fans?

When the Sox won the World Series Greeley wrote an ugly, hateful smear on Sox fans.  Now he's at it again.  This time it's a gratuitous smear of Sox fans.

Who are those who reject compromise of a useless and criminally deadly war like Iraq? They are the blusterers, members of "veteran's organizations," mountain folk, crackers, West Texans, blue collar workers, evangelical clergy, neo-cons, Republicans, white ethnics, Sox fans...

Here's a heaping helping of the smears, stereotypes and lies spread by Greeley less than 3 years ago:

It's not as though the White Sox are a real Chicago franchise like the Cubs or the Bears or Notre Dame...the behavior of White Sox fans, an intolerable bunch of human beings when baseball is the subject (who beat up on wives of opposing players)...My seminary classmates who were Sox fans were insufferable on the days they won and we lost. More mature than they were, we Cub fans felt no need to cackle triumphantly when the Sox lost...

So, let's see Greeley thinks Cubbies fans are superior to Sox fans and he demonstrates this by stereotyping and spreading ugly smears.  Really, "father," WWJD?

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of SB Nation, Bleed Cubbie Blue, or Al Yellon, editor-in-chief. FanPost opinions are, however, valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable baseball fans.

Funny...

… no one here complained when people have searched my comments and posted about them. Nor did you complain when a certain member here repeatedly posted personal information about me.

Let’s face it, people can be hypocritical and don’t like being exposed. If it’s as dark as you make it sound, then the “search” feature should be removed.

You do realize that you drive up the number of “sox-related posts” on this site every time you come around.

Essentially, you’re a spammer.

The Sox discussion here...

… goes on in my absence. When the Sox lost a series in KC a few weeks ago there were 50+ Sox posts here and none by me.

These comments by Greeley betray his words and the comments frequently made here about Cubs fans.

dood.

get over yourself. I don’t even know what that last sentence is supposed to mean.

Remember Greeley's comments...

… when you get ready to talk about Sox fans always bashing the Cubs.

Here the Cubs have the best record in the NL. They’ll be going to the post-season (barring a monumental choke) and he’s still getting jabs in at Sox fans, in an column completely unrelated to the Sox.

For all Greeley’s and others claims of the superiority of Cubs fans, his words prove to be much like the group he loves to smear.

DrCrawdad...

… though I do respect you personally… I’m not quite sure why you felt you had to post this here. You do know how stuff like this just incites Cubs fans.

I’m not sure why Andrew Greeley felt the need to write that, either. It’s just stupid to try to incite people, which is all that was about.

Borowy . . .Sutcliffe . . .Harden?

by Josh77 on Aug 21, 2008 9:11 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Just to clarify Josh

and this doesn’t apply to all of them but certainly a majority; White Sox fan = Cub hater. So if he’s a White Sox fan, there’s a good chance he is a Cub hater. They’re taught that way on the South side.

So many of them are almost as obsessed with seeing the Cubs lose as their team win. Instead of them concentrating on what the Twinkies, Cats and Tribe are doing, they’re thinking about the Cubs.

Do Cubs fans do that same? Hell no. We’re thinking about the Brewers and Cards, sometimes the ‘stros when it’s not the Cubs themselves.

Yeah, I care about what the White Sox do 6 games a season (guess which 6); the other 156, I could not care less.

Hey Sox troll. The Sox have their own blog. This is completely off-topic here and veers into the political, even.

http://www.southsidesox.com/

You keep arguing that Cub fans are obsessed about the Sox, but you are so
freaking obsessed about the Cubs you don’t even care about the White Sox anymore. Do White Sox fans hate you or something? You seem to want to have nothing to do with them.

You must lead a very sad and pathetic life that you get your jollies posting this stuff on a Cubs board. Maybe Andrew Greeley will pray for you.

did you even look at the posts....

because none of them address the White Sox, most of them refer to the RED SOX.

How about you take the time to actually do some research in what your stupid search function generated.

with the exception of posts made in JANUARY after the White Sox acquired Swisher, I’ve referenced the White SOX ONCE in a BCB post in the last 8 months and the reference was how I don’t understand why Cubs fans are pre-occupied with the White Sox.

So what?

It seems that this Greeley guy is kind of an ass…why do you let it bother you?

If he’s a columnist, then he’s doing his job in getting you to react to his column.

And as for what he said in 2005, who cares? I know about 50 White Sox fans, and I don’t think any of them stopped celebrating their Series win because Andrew Greeley wrote some words.

How is this relevant?

This is the 'inferiority complex'

that seems to prevail, and there is absolutely no reason for White Sox fans to feel like this.

Why is anything this guy says relevant to — anybody? And, why is this posted here?

You obviously

have more time on your hands than most people are allowed to have.

Look, there was one snide response. I take responsibility for that. Why don’t you post the ‘history lesson’ I wrote on that other site. I’m not going to. I personally don’t have time for such nonsense. You seem to have some weird obsession…which presents itself in your continued posting on this site.

Research is one thing…but you seem to have gone a bit farther than that. The post that follows this by carmenfanzone uses an appropriate word to describe your actions.

by San Diego Smooth Jazz Man on Aug 22, 2008 1:27 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

The San Diego Spin Room
You obviously have more time on your hands than most people are allowed to have.

I guess you had time on your hands too back when you were posting your snide remarks on SouthSideSox.

Look, there was one snide response. I take responsibility for that.

And that’s simply not true that it was “one snide response.” Your very first post was a dig at Sox fans but you went on from there. And I’ve brought this out before.

In that former discussion, after exposing your misleading description of your posts on SouthSideSox, I asked you this and I repeat:

Cubbie fans, even here, often talk about a Sox fan inferiority complex. Well, what do these psychologist wannabes have to say about Cubbie fans who perpetually feel compelled to say and post ugly smears on Sox fans? How insecure are these people who feel they have to regularly put-down another group of people?

by DrCrawdad on Aug 22, 2008 7:49 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

by San Diego Smooth Jazz Man on Aug 22, 2008 9:25 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Smooth move...

I understand your desire to move on from discussing your “snide” postS on SouthSideSox. Now you admit they were “snide” and not merely “historical” comments, as you described them previously.

Clearly, you were upset by Kass’ silly comments for months. Now after attacking me personally (again) you’re telling me to move on. Interesting.

by DrCrawdad on Aug 22, 2008 9:37 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

There is a damn historical comment there

For the young Sox fans of 2005, I went back and discussed what it was like for the Sox back when I was growing up, and attending games on BOTH sides of town.

Go find it. I have no real reason to do so. It’s amongst the 7 comments you have there, as opposed to the nearly 14-hundred comments, you, a Sox fan have posted here.

Uh, I kind of don’t really think about John Kass. You are the individual that dredges up material that’s years old, sir.
