Playoff Pricing/Schedule sent to season ticket holders
Credit goes to BCBer Doggie Stalker who broke the news in the pregame thread. Here is the memo (for combination plan season ticket holders):
Note: This is the earliest in the season that I have received the postseason invoice (this is about the 6th or 7th year I have received one).
Dear <Awesome Cubs Fan>,
It is my pleasure to inform you Major League Baseball has authorized us to prepare for post season play. The enclosed fact sheet indicates the post season schedule and pricing structure. The ultimate schedule is determined based on winning percentage and which teams qualify as division champions and “wild cards”. It is possible we will not know which games will be played at Wrigley Field until the very end of the 2008 regular season.
We are only able to offer you a slight increase in the amount of tickets that you are entitled to through your combination season ticket plan. We are offering you the ability to purchase the same number of tickets as listed in your account for all three games in the Division Series, two randomly selected games in the League Championship Series and two randomly selected games in the World Series.
Payments for postseason tickets are due in full by September 8th and may be paid by personal/company check, money order, MasterCard, Visa, Discover or American Express. For payments received after this date, we cannot guarantee seat location or tickets to post season play. If the Cubs are eliminated from post season contention before playoff tickets are mailed, we will automatically credit your payment to your 2009 season ticket account unless you have indicated on your invoice that you wish to receive a refund check.
Thank you for your support of the Chicago Cubs as we look forward to playoff baseball again in 2008.
If you have any questions, please call us at <season ticket phone number>.
Sincerely,
Frank Maloney
Director of Ticket Operations

I could understand an off day for traveling, but no there is no reason for an off day on the 14th and there is certainly no reason for that many days between the LCS and the WS

Off days
First, the off day on the 14th is a travel day. It goes 2-2-1-1-1 in the LCS and 2-3-2 in the World Series.
Second, last year, major league baseball decide to not start the WS on the weekend. Had something to do with ratings and Friday and Saturday night are horrible ratings nights. I’m not saying I agree with the layoff this causes, but that is the reason.

No, it's not 2-2-1-1-1.
It’s 2-3-2 in the LCS.

yeah, and I think hockey does (or it used to)
plus, I like the 2-2-1-1-1 series better, but that’s just a bias.
Actually, I was trying to think of a way a couple of years ago to completely feed my whims. I love seeing the home team win the clincher. When I"m watching a series in any sport where I’m not a fan of one of the teams, I usually end up pulling for the home team if they have a chance to win the series. The celebration is just cooler I guess, which caused the strange situation of me pulling for the Red Wings in last year’s Stanley Cup final (then again, I really don’t like anything from Pittsburgh either, so that made it a little easier).
I tried to figure out a way to guarantee home ice for the victor. This would obviously be extremely difficult, and would be a mess but the best I could come up with is this.
The higher seed team hosts games 1 and 2, with the lower seed hosting game 3. Then if the series is 2 games to 1 in either team’s favor, the lower seed hosts game 4. Then, if it’s tied 2 games apiece, Game 5 goes to the higher seeded team.
Okay, here’s where it gets tricky. Anytime the series comes up on an elimination game (3-0, 3-1, 3-2) in favor of either team, that team with the 3 games won then host’s the next game no matter what the seed is. Then, if it goes to a 7th game (i.e. tied 3 games a piece), the higher seeded team hosts the final game.
See? A complete mess but it works great with my interests so I’m not too concerned.
Okay, I just re-read this to see if it makes any sense, and it does to me (but I’m the one who wrote it) so hopefully everyone else can follow along.

The saddest part about that...
is the whole post. Aside from the lucky season ticket holders and few that luck into tickets there is no way they are seeing a Cubs playoff game for less than 200/350/1000.

Is that official?
Thanks for sharing the info if so. 125 for a World Series bleacher isn’t bad at all. In fact, World Series ticket prices in general look to be much lower than I thought they’d be.

That is based on information that the Cubs include with the postseason invoice. Prices look similar to last year (I think MLB sets the prices – not sure).

I hate "fees" like that.
Just fold them into the price of the ticket. Then it doesn’t feel like we’re being nickel and dimed to death.

One other question...
Anyone know when playoff tickets go on sale to the public? I can’t recall when NLDS tix went on sale last year.

It’ll be on Cubs.com in advance.

Last year...
… NLDS tix went on sale on Sunday, 9/23. This year it’ll likely be Sunday 9/21 or somewhere near then.
My bleacher tix are up slightly from last year. NLDS tix last year were $50, this year $60 — I think the other prices are the same.

I can't believe I'm falling
back-asswards into playoff tickets. My MIL’s bosses brother has season tickets…for only business purposes. He’s had them for years but now entertains clients at the UC. He’s willing to sell me his playoff tickets for face value and I jumped on it so fast that if I had my checkbook with me at the time he told me about the tickets, I probably could not have kept my hand still long enough to write legibly.
The next step is to figure out if I can have the season tickets transferred to my name without my wife thoroughly kicking my ass.

I'll find out Monday for sure, cuz that's when I provide my check
for several grand. Actually, when I told the wife about the 2009 season tickets, she wasn’t all that PO’d. Now it’s telling her they’re gonna cost over $20k.
She took it very well when I told her about my “new” Blackhawk season tickets in the club level at the UC, but she knew that going in, I had several partners for many of the games. The motivation for that was not only is the team getting way better, it guarantees me being at Wrigley 1/1/2009.
If I can’t transfer them, then hopefully he’d be open to me cutting him a check for the tickets when his money is due. Several colleagues of mine would be very, very interested in going to games.

Time to use those airline miles
Ok I got tickets and can stay with Mom so my biggest issue is getting TO Chicago. Been
saving airline miles for at least 15 years. Only been used for special Cub events
( Maddux 300, a few post season games) got plenty and NYC to Chicago is not that hard to get a ticket on but I do have do this in a week or so which means I have to take a leap of faith on the Cubs making it and if they will be the home team in rounds one and two. I can live with that problem.

Yes but your trip was planned in advance
I went on 2 days notice ( I had come in for the first try at Wrigley the weekend before)
I loved that I could use airline miles on that short notice, got a nice hotel on hotwire and it was
just GREAT. I might have personally KILLED Farnsworth who did his best but could not blow the lead.

Very impressive, you should be proud of that
Now, do you have some momentos from the game in addition to your ticket stub? Hope so and if so, you have it displayed in your “Cubbie” display area.
All I can show is a pic from some sports place that claims authenticity and a half teaspoon of IF dirt in some clear plastic coin with some MLB official logo on it. Ironically, Maddog is pitching to none other than the current catcher for the south side team; with the scoreboard clearly in focus, Cubs scoring 2 in each of the 4th, 5th and 6th innings.

Thanks to Al
I have the special limited edition ball they sold the next day ( his group got their earlier
than me) but mostly I have some great memories even if Maddux Old school that he is would NOT come out and take a bow even though the GIANT fans were cheering for him.
I was also at his 3.000 strike out game but that was pure chance as it was during my scheduled “home stant” that year.
If things work out I may be at # 355 Monday in LA when he passes my version of

I’ll be in town for the Chicago Marathon Oct 10-13! A home game on 10/12 would mean a run from Grant Park up LSD to Waveland, back down to Comiskey on 35th, and back up again to Wrigley for me!
