Someone yesterday or the other day, (I thought it was you, maybe it was nervouscublover) said to DFA one of the Cubs after a poor game. When someone asked them why, they said, “because, I like saying DFA”. The whole thing was meant to be humorous; not calling anyone out at all.

Tie game, bottom of 10th, AJ at second with one out

He screws up and breaks on a grounder to short, gets in a rundown, and finally backs into one of the fielders and flopping to get interference called. 1st & 3rd, one out now.

by daily2b on Aug 24, 2008 4:17 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I don't know who started it but every time Barrett was at the plate or Oswalt was batting

They always were yelling at each other. IIRC it ended up with the game being delayed once while they just stared each other down. I don’t think it ever became an actual fist fight.

by nji232 on Aug 24, 2008 4:21 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

barrett got right up in his face at the plate

oswaly had puposely hit a cub in his last start. O backed down like a girl.then after O GO’ed, Barrett trailed the play and barked at him all the way into the dugout. No one from the Astros said bleep. I would give credit for igniting them if there had been a scuffle, or even words, but it didn’t happen.

by daily2b on Aug 24, 2008 4:26 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Do me a favor...

…check the standings the day that episode happened and compare that to seasons end and you can draw your own conclusion.

All in all, there is a time and place to get back at someone and Barrett’s timing was horrible.

pure correlation, in my opinion

a lot of things happened at that time. Hard to say for sure that did, or didn’t play a role.

by daily2b on Aug 24, 2008 4:31 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Could be...

…but you are always taught to let a sleeping dog lie, and at that time, the Stros were in a coma.

Bottom line, Barrett was clueless behind the plate and on the bases and it is very difficult to win with someone like that catching everyday.

no doubt

and really, I enjoyed the incident for because I found it hilaious, more than I believed it to be a sound baseball move. However, as a ballplayer my whole life, sometimes someone has to stand up for thte team. Guess they should have watched the tape before the WS

by daily2b on Aug 24, 2008 4:42 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Nothing wrong...

…with standing up for the team if it was necessary, but there are times you have to be patient and pick another time to get that done.

by MPH73 on Aug 24, 2008 4:48 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

That one showed Barret's...

…stupidity. He chose to ingnite the Stros when they were basically dead in the water. From that point on, they woke up and caught the Cubs for the wild card.

by MPH73 on Aug 24, 2008 4:19 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'll just say this...

…although Barrett could hit a little bit, the man was not blessed with any degree of baseball instincts and he showed this time and again behind the plate and on the bases.

You can thank Lou for telling Hendry to get him out of here.

the key is the loss column

going into today’s game, the Brewers are 5 back in the loss column

they can be 6 back after today’s game

teams cannot give back losses; they have to earn wins

"Every team will win 60 games, every team will lose 60 games, it's what the team does in the other 42 games that decides the season."

you can count on the Suds scoring now...book it.

whenever a team doesn’t score when they have the bases loaded and no out, it always come back and bites you in the butt.

The Pirates...

…have 16 hits and the Crew 14 and both teams only have 3 runs – amazing.
