Hansen likes his walks
The critical thing to understand is that major-league pitchers don't appear to have the ability to prevent hits on balls in play. There are many possible reasons why this is the case, and I don't really have a concrete idea as to why it is.
But the one thing I do know is that it is the case.

As ugly as this game has looked
1) a win is still a good night
2) think of their pen tomorrow night :-)
Not to mention the 12-inning game with Milwaukee...
on Sunday… and the Cubs chasing Karstens early yesterday. The Pirates pen has to be a mess right now.
It's games like this when I miss Harry
“HoooOOOOOOld everything!”
"I don't think anybody's paying attention to the Cubs." - Prince Fielder
Reed Johnson NEEDS to be playing more
The guy’s batting .450-something for the month of August
"Yes it's true. Everyone knows that I've pitched. I make sure of that. I have nine different pitches, all of which are awesome. I have a 0.00 ERA, got one out, throwing all knuckleballs. I don't remember who I faced -- some dude from Ole Miss." - Ryan Theriot
and he's doing so well
because he’s being put into the right situations.

what's going on?
I’m a typical cubs fan who doesn’t watch the games..
2008 Cubs: Who needs nine innings, when you only need a 7th?
Ugly, but...
effective. The checkmark is in the W column. I was at this game, drove over from Columbus, oHIo…. My losing streak at PNC and the Great American (ahem!) Ballpark is finally over. I think it’s 6 straight games at either park that the Cubs had lost going into tonight’s game.
Things didn’t look too promising from the moment I got into the ballpark. Zambrano didn’t look right warming up in the ‘pen. And it carried over into the game. His fastball had no life on it for the most part. He finally starting hitting above 90 on the gun in the 4th inning, but by then he had already thrown a lot of pitches. I’m glad the guys got him off the hook, but I’m sure he’s not happy with himself. He just didn’t look right, I hope he’s not hurt and not saying anything.
But, they kept clawing back, to which I give a lot of credit. I also think this Pirates team can be something really good with a little pitching. They really rake the ball, spraying singles and extra-base hits all over the field.
OK, it’s 3:30 in the morning and I drove 6 hours and sat through a 4 hour game without a cigarette. It’s time for bed.
First, though, I’d like to introduce myself to BCB. I’m the Original Dave and I have the proof: http://blog.theoriginaldave.com . I grew up in the north suburbs of Chicago, and now reside in Columbus, OH. I’m fairly new to BCB, and just wanted to say ‘ello. This is really a great forum for Cubs fans to hang out and chat. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading Al’s insights, and the comments are just awesome. There’s a lot of baseball knowledge on here, for which I’m thankful I found this place.
Thanks for reading, and Go Cubs Go!
Long days and pleasant nights.
