OT : Pedro Alvarez and How It's Hard to be a Pirates' Fan
Well, Scott Boras is at it again. Now he's trying to get Pedro's contract voided because it was signed after the midnight August 15th deadline. In essence, he's trying to shake down the Pirates for more money. In the process, he might take down another one of his clients, Eric Hosmer, who Pittsburgh believes submitted his contract after Pedro. Here's a link to the ESPN story :

I think it'd be hilarious if he took down another one of his clients with this move. I'd love to see Hosmer win a multi-million dollar lawsuit against Boras. Though this makes me wonder if Vitters really signed by midnight. I'm sure there have been other deals made after the deadline but nobody was slimy enough to agree to a contract then renege a couple of weeks later.

Since 1999
The Pirates haven’t won more than 75 games in a season. I don’t see Pittsburgh turning things around next season as the extremely surprising Rays have this season. Furthermore, high school students are either too young to remember or weren’t even born when the Pirates won their division championships in the early 1990’s. You’ve got to be 35+ to remember the “We Are Family” team of 1979.
Maybe, the Bucs prospects will develop quickly and pan out, but having the Brewers and Cubs in the same division with them won’t help matters in the Pirates contending any time soon.

That sounds...
Like what everyone said about the Rays before this year.

Yabbut..
…. the Rays were clearly headed in the right direction with their top drafts. It came together this year with the addition of some savvy veterans like Troy Percival.
That’s a dangerous team. The other AL contenders, particuarly the Angels, cannot take them lightly.

Yabbut too
The Cubs went from 1947 through 1966 with ONE season over .500 (1963- 82-80). Been there Bucs fans, done that. I DO, however ,feel for them. Its no fun.

I've never understood the anti-Boras thing
Here’s a guy trying to get these kids – some of whom may never make it to the bigs – a payday before they spend the next few years of their lives living in cheap hotels and touring around in buses.
Same goes with the big league players – these are the guy the fans are paying to see – shouldn’t they be the ones getting the money, rather than the owners?
