I don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves here, but I have a question.
Last week my girlfriend and I were at Wrigley (her first time there), we sat in the upper deck along the right field side. We had a perfect view of the flags flying on top of the Wrigley that list the years the Cubs have won something. She asked me “If the Cubs win the World Series are they just going to put up a tiny flag up there?” I didn’t really have an answer, but I said probably not. I would think they would put up a large flag somewhere in the park, maybe below the American flag on the scoreboard or with the retired numbers on the foul poles.
Does anyone know if there is an official plan of how to commemorate the glorious event if/when it happens? I know some people are going think we are getting way to ahead of ourselves, but this is a question that could be asked during a last place season. I was just wondering.

You're right
You are getting ahead of things.
I suspect that people in the marketing department think about this, dream about it – but they don’t talk about it.

Anytime you have to preface a question...
…with those 11 words, you probably shouldn’t ask the question – especially when it comes to the Cubs. Let’s just all be pleasantly surprised, shall we?

there is no flag.
until there is a flag, there is no flag. Now, go outside, turn around counter-clockwise three times, and spit.

I'll bite...
…I think it would be a little dishonoring to the teams of 1907,08 to put this team above them. A simple blue 2008 on a white background will be fine. Let’s act like we’ve been there before. (yes I know, none of us have actually been there before)

You are getting a little ahead, however
Notice all the flags above the upper deck roof? Those were supposed to be all the WS flag poles when “Cubs Park” was remodeled in the mid-late 20’s to add the upper deck.
If you look closely, you can see the pennant flags and the 1907 & 1908. Then there’s a Maddog flag, one for Sammy’s 66 a Ryno flag etc.
I would hope they erect new poles behind the bleachers to fly division, pennant and WS flags when appropriate, or they could just revert to the original plan from 80+ years ago.

To all the "TOO SOONERS!"
Isn’t the fun in this season looking forward to what’s happening? It’s a rare pleasure to be able to ask these questions.
Each day Al keeps saying “Look around you, remember where you are. These are memorable times to be a Cubs fan.”
It’s never too soon to enjoy the season.

This is like planning a wedding after a first date
Yes, it’s too soon. No one is saying cringe in fear or don’t enjoy the seaon, but this isn’t a question to be worried about.

First date?
Hardly. This is date 133.
by Arbusto on Aug 28, 2008 12:26 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
No, it isn't.
The season begins anew in October. You might have a lot of common interests, but you haven’t met each other’s families yet, you don’t know if you can stand travelling together yet.
Enough of the anology. It would be damn pretentious to say, “we’re going to put the flag here”.
I still love the fact that Michigan State had a Big 10 Men’s BB Champion banner ready to be unfurled that never was after the Badgers beat them in East Lansing in 2004.
Why give your opponents more incentive to beat you? It’s not about goats, cats, foul balls . . . it’s just too damn soon.

This specific question
May be a bit off base but I’m more opposed to the people who in general are saying “Don’t talk about the post season at all.”
Seems like nobody wants to think about it or enjoy it.

It's a double edged sword.
What I keep saying is, “Enjoy each day as it comes”, remember the moment.
We can’t get too far ahead of ourselves. I know we all have a lot of scar tissue from previous failures and maybe that’s preventing some of the excitement that we DO want to feel.
Let’s see where we are after this weekend.

Right, we should enjoy...
…the season. As in, the regular season. We can’t enjoy the postseason because it hasn’t happened yet. Now, granted, I may be a little more superstitious than some (perhaps less so than others), but I’d really rather avoid even discussing a celebration before there’s anything to actually celebrate.
Yes, sir!

I'm giddy in excitment about the postseason
Each game is played in hopes of getting there. That’s the entire point of playing the games.
by Arbusto on Aug 28, 2008 12:25 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Hey, I'm excited, too.
But, like I said, I’m a little superstitious. For some reason, I feel like if I stay focused on, first and foremost, the Cubs winning their division, somehow the players will, too. I know that’s irrational and ridiculous, but so it goes. Any discussion of celebrating anything just makes me a little uncomfortable.
Yes, sir!
