Pre-Pre-Pre-Pre-Pre Game Thread 8/28

Too long between games, starting to shake.....

The official pre-game won't be up for a while and most of the Fanposts are directed to events and actions should this team..... (thinking of euphamism that won't equate to superstition) "keep winning series" and these random decending numbers.  Looking for a place to discuss tonights game and the rest of the regular season.

The 9 game cupcake portion of the season is over and the Cubs now have to face contending teams.

I won't say I'm worried about the Phillies, but it's a talented lineup of true MLB players.  I'm looking forward to seeing how the team performs against another team fighting for the playoffs (Yeah, I said the word, but note the context).

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of SB Nation or Al Yellon, managing editor (unless it's a FanPost posted by Al). FanPost opinions are valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable baseball fans.

first!

bummed I’m going to miss the next several games … too much going on in town music-wise (Jazz fest! Nico Muhly!). I’ll be thinking about the Cubs though, and sending winning vibes.

I think this will be a great test

The Cubs are in a better position for this 4 game series. Even if we get sweept (which I think is highly unlikely) we would still be in first. We could make a solid statement to the rest of the national league if we domanate the phillies.

Just guessing, but

with Dempster starting at home, Drew doubts they lose tonight.

nope.

as Oakley says below — it’s Demp, at home, and we’re riding high. When we’ve won eight or nine in a row, then I’ll be waiting for the loss.

so when he says the “1 doesn’t come today” he is predicting a Cubs W today

Having Demp start

with the way he’s pitched at Wrigley will hopefully set a tone for the entire series. This’ll be a good confirmation to the rest of the NL that Wrigley is our house, and that any path to the World Series goes through Clark & Addison.

Exactly.

I’m thinking four against Philly and three with the hot ’Stros should get the team focused (to be playing good teams) and show us what is left in the tank.

We really setted it up

with our 4 game series against the brewers. I hope we do the same thing in this series even if this one isn’t quit as important (still important however)

I'm no Michigan fan

(or Big 10 for that matter) but Michigan doesn’t quite fit in. For example, the bowl games Michigan makes, they typically deserve and are able to compete in. Notre Dame however is always picked for bowls 4-5 times their level… as proven by their bowl record over the past 15 years or so (0-fer)

OT - what time to get in line?

My nephew is having his bachelor party this Saturday at Wrigley. There will be about 15 guys and they want to sit in the left field bleachers low down by the wall. What time should they get in line to get the seats they want? Thanks for your help.

gates open 2 hours before game time

…and there’s usually (especially on weekends) a line before then.

Depends what seats they want though… People will probably start lining up earlier because of the late start. If they just want to sit together in LF, they should be fine if they are in line when the gates open at 12.55. If they want front row, they should probably try to be in line by 11.30 or 12 i would guess.

American holidays, not British, are celebrated on base for the military folk. This weekend was supposed to be a 4-day weekend (Friday being a “family day”) but I was picked to come in on Monday for some stuff that will be happening. Yay.

The view from Philadelphia

Phillies are coming in off an emotional series against New York. I was at the 13 inning game on Tuesday and the bullpen was all used up that game. That came into play for the game last night and lead to the Mets 4 run 8th inning.

Rollins is starting to hit the ball. Utley is not at 100% (hip injury) and it’s showing with his batting average since June. Burrell is slumping.

Eyre has pitched really well when Manuel puts him in the game. The game the Philadelphia media is pointing to is tonight’s game with Hamels on the mound. They’re not giving Dempster enough credit for his year so far and tonight is a “must win” with the other pitching matchups this weekend. A lot of repect being given to the Cubs in the papers and sports talk radio

Phillies fans would be thrilled with splitting the series. I think Cubs take 3 out of 4.
