Audio: Pat and Ron Calling Ram's Slam

Here's the audio of Pat Hughes and Ron Santo calling Aramis Ramirez's grand slam in the 8th inning of the Cubs win over the Phillies Thursday, August 28, 2008.

This just might be one of those games we look back on and say "That's when I knew this team was special."

Of course, it couldn't possibly be the only moment this year we've said that.  There have been too many to count.  The sweep of the Brewers in Milwaukee after the Some Stars Game is just one other one.

But really this FanPost is about Pat and Ron.  Well, really it's just about Ron.  I mean, Pat Hughes is the consummate professional; there's nothing else to say. Ron, on the other hand, is the funniest play-by-play man in the Majors.  Isn't that why all of Cubs Nation, and indeed the guys who produce SportsCenter, love that Old Cub so much?

It sounds like he's grabbing Pat by the shoulder as he's jumping up and down, then he doubles over as he's laughing.

Just one of many examples of Ron going ballistic after a Cubs home run.

"Can you believe it?!?!"

I don't know about you, but I'm starting to!

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of SB Nation or Al Yellon, editor-in-chief (unless it's a FanPost posted by Al). FanPost opinions are valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable baseball fans.

sometimes I wish we occasionally had Santo in the TV broadcast booth.

missed this, thanks...

‘cause i was in the other room listening/watching on wgn…the visual of the stands was awesome, the fans went completely batshit when aram smacked that one. you’d’ve have thought they’d just won the series…..i can’t even begin to imagine what it’ll be like in wrigley when they actually get there, hope the structure can handle the seismic activity.

world series games 3, 4, & 5 at wrigley on oct. 25, 26 & 27……stay tuned!

and still all I have….in fact, all I CAN say is….O M G! I can’t wait to see what Al has to say about the game. Being there must have been incredible.

i liked the centerfielder's reaction.

he started to chase the ball, but then thought better of it. the best ones are when the outfielder doesn’t move, but that was nice.

on a personal note, as philly was going ahead, i mentioned on the thread (that sue started) that, we would close in until i had to go in to work. (i start at ten pm.) sure enough, i got my stuff ready for work at 9:30, just as the inning was starting. i turned off the tv and computer as theriot singled. i flipped on the radio to listen to derrek’s walk. i was rummaging for my portable radio as aramis came up. as the ball sailed out, i figured, i don’t need the radio, it’s over.

i had two recurring thoughts in the game. get hamels out, we’ll have a chance. the other thought, milwaukee isn’t catching us even if we do lose. trying to figure which is a better feeling.

see y’all friday afternoon.

As stated, humorously, several times by Len

Victorino took a mere two steps to his right, looked over his shoulder, and sulked.

Ha!

Actually...

Shane Victorino “didn’t move an inch,” as Pat points out just a after the clip ends. I was watching on TV when it happened and he really didn’t move. He didn’t turn around, or anything.

I’m pretty sure that’s the very definition of a no-doubter.

Long days and pleasant nights.

i was just watching comcast

news and he started to move and pulled up. by the time pat saw him, it would have looked like he didn’t move. methinks, since lbr just sent him to the vines fruitlessly seeking a carom, victorino started and realized, “this one is off the island.”

I live in CA and I only have aerial TV and cable internet, so I don’t even get ESPN highlights. It’s enjoyable to listen to Ron Santo expressing his heart for the Cubs. Thanks!

You should drop the $15

to get Gameday Audio on MLB.com. You can listen to the radio broadcast of every major league game all season. If you haven’t had the Santo experience, it will be money well spent!
