Just came back

Please don’t tell me it was Howry that gave up the lead. If it was I bet Eyre is screaming Why Me

Thanks.

Damn, Now I really feel bad for Eyre and am starting to really dislike Howry. I’m taking this much too personally.

Not really

I mean, he didn’t hurt a loved one (physically anyway) but he just is a pile of crap out there. A sure lead blower.

Calm down.

course it was

although Harden did kinda disintegrate there…

’’If somebody had told me we were going to lose Soriano for eight weeks, lose [Carlos] Zambrano and Kerry Wood for a couple of weeks apiece, and then at the same time lose [Reed] Johnson, and then when we played the American League not have a DH [then-injured Daryle Ward], and be in first place by two games, I’d tell you we were pretty fortunate.’’ Lou Piniella (7/23/08)

It really is ODD that a quirk

of scoring is to give a blown hold or save pitcher a win if his team comes back and scores the next inning. I guess the theory is he didn’t blow it bad enough to keep his team in the game.

But still, this quirk in scoring needs to be changed, IMO. Whoever comes in next and pitches and keeps the lead should be awarded the W. I have always found this a very odd way to get a win—through FAILURE. One of the odd parts of baseball that awards failure.

THIS IS OUR CENTURY!!

This is amusing

Game cast has a hitzone thing that tells you how a batter performs in certain zones in the strike zone. If you throw the ball right down the middle of the plate to Matsui, he hits .000

by DWChaney on Aug 5, 2008 4:05 PM CDT reply actions

they've mentioned that with a few other known hitters as well

vlad guerro hits like .140 when pitched down the middle and i remember the commentators saying that was misleading. nobody in the right mind would wanna pitch anybody down the heart of the plate, it’s just the hitters don’t expect pitchers to throw that bad of a ball.

To be Fair . . .

Howry has had two solid seasons for the Cubs . . . He just sucks now

by TheRiot02 on Aug 5, 2008 4:13 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, I've always liked Bob...

...so I’m going to go easy on the Howry hate. But something is clearly wrong. It’s a little too deep into the season for him to be this consistently bad.

Love it though...

We are used to losing games like this, not winning them. Love how this team just battles. Seems like they almost flip the switch when they need to.

good day for cub hitters

Soriano=3-5, 4 RBI’s
Lee=4-5
DeRo=3-5, 3 Ribeye’s

Well my cpu at work couldn't handle when these threads got busy

First bad game for Harden, he will be fine.
Howry is still awful, I called that Lee homer against him.
Alfonso Soriano is a STAR, people love to hate him, but he got that contract for a reason.
Nice to see Wood back on the mound.

Gauidin did didn't he?

I’m just repeating what he said. He was specifically asked about Howry and that’s when he said that and he just repeated it again at the end of his pc.

Or at least keep Howry's outings to the absolute minimum.

Howry should’ve walked Carlos Lee and then Lou could have brought in a lefty to face Blum.
