Just came back
Please don’t tell me it was Howry that gave up the lead. If it was I bet Eyre is screaming Why Me
Go All In and Enjoy The Ride.
Thanks.
Damn, Now I really feel bad for Eyre and am starting to really dislike Howry. I’m taking this much too personally.
Go All In and Enjoy The Ride.
Not really
I mean, he didn’t hurt a loved one (physically anyway) but he just is a pile of crap out there. A sure lead blower.
Calm down.
course it was
although Harden did kinda disintegrate there…
’’If somebody had told me we were going to lose Soriano for eight weeks, lose [Carlos] Zambrano and Kerry Wood for a couple of weeks apiece, and then at the same time lose [Reed] Johnson, and then when we played the American League not have a DH [then-injured Daryle Ward], and be in first place by two games, I’d tell you we were pretty fortunate.’’ Lou Piniella (7/23/08)

Part of his plan ;)
He knew we would retake the lead.

you could probably narrow it down to at least half of his games

so, say Eyre clears...
why not DFA Howry and re-sign Eyre?

i'm sure he couldn't
with any regular work.

I really think Howry was the guy to go...
Eyre just doesn’t seem to suck as bad. I believe, the Cubs need to pick up a solid reliever and dump Howry too.
Calm down.

I am sure it has been stated today/recently, but
I don’t think the howry/eyre signings were bad, but I sure wish they were 2 year deals instead of 3!
That's why it's so rare to see 3 year reliever deals
Proud recipient of a hot dog shot from the Iowa Cubs hot dog gun.
i know, we migh have had to do it to get them...
2 good years, 1 bad for both of them…if we can get something for eyre, it would be a plus
Eyre wasn't all that good last year, either.
He had his moments. All told, for a team with the Cubs’ resources, they got decent production without crippling themselves financially.

It really is ODD that a quirk
of scoring is to give a blown hold or save pitcher a win if his team comes back and scores the next inning. I guess the theory is he didn’t blow it bad enough to keep his team in the game.
But still, this quirk in scoring needs to be changed, IMO. Whoever comes in next and pitches and keeps the lead should be awarded the W. I have always found this a very odd way to get a win—through FAILURE. One of the odd parts of baseball that awards failure.
THIS IS OUR CENTURY!!
Lou has been awarding failure when it comes to Howry for the last 3 months.
As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.

yeah, it has happened quite a few times this year...
i am just happy we have a team that doesn’t give up when it gets shitty. look at Harden’s first game. that could have been a disaster, and we came back to win
Happened to Gaudin the other night . . .
When he gave up that HR against Pittsburgh and the Cubs came back and took the lead the next inning on the Reed Johnson HR
There's no giving up this year with the Cubs
"Every team will win 60 games, every team will lose 60 games, it's what the team does in the other 42 games that decides the season."

This is amusing
Game cast has a hitzone thing that tells you how a batter performs in certain zones in the strike zone. If you throw the ball right down the middle of the plate to Matsui, he hits .000
they've mentioned that with a few other known hitters as well
vlad guerro hits like .140 when pitched down the middle and i remember the commentators saying that was misleading. nobody in the right mind would wanna pitch anybody down the heart of the plate, it’s just the hitters don’t expect pitchers to throw that bad of a ball.

Hopefully the Suds and Birds both punt and lose tonight; we’re ever closer to my 8 game up by mid august! :D
