Good luck Shawn Johnson, Lolo Jones and Doug Schwab. Bring home the gold!!!

marquis didn't do too badly
one bad pitch to Carlos Lee, really.
And the first 2.

Yup...
Roughed up in the 3rd and got out of a jam in the 4th.
1 bad pitch doomed him.
gave up a 3R HR to Lee on an 0-2 count.
Other than that, decent.
"Thank god I threw out my belt & shoelaces."-Bernies Mustache Wax on Evil BCB, 7/31/08

He lost focus.
He gave up 4 runs in an inning.
And the other 5 innings: squat.

otherwise, very solid. But, that one bad pitch went for a 3-run HR

Just to clarify for everyone...
I saw this once before. Because a manager does not have to pull a pitcher on his first visit, he can double-switch after talking to his pitcher IF he signals a double-switch to the HP ump before waving to the bullpen.
"I've never complained about it. I'm thankful to have a jersey." Mark DeRosa, 22 Aug 2007
So... Did he signal?
I’m confused.
Proud recipient of a hot dog shot from the Iowa Cubs hot dog gun.
Here's what happened...
1. Lou went to the mound. Jason appeared to agree that he was done.
2. Lou turned to the HP ump to signal for a double-switch.
3. The ump acknowledged it.
4. Lou signaled to the bullpen.
5. Lou and the ump met half-way to record the changes.
6. Lou signaled to Edmonds to come out.
Where is Northsider to do the PBP for me?
"I've never complained about it. I'm thankful to have a jersey." Mark DeRosa, 22 Aug 2007
I miss him too.
He adds a lot to these game threads.
Good luck Shawn Johnson, Lolo Jones and Doug Schwab. Bring home the gold!!!
sounds right...
...but on the 2nd visit he needs to signal before crossing into the field of play, because the 2nd visit requires the manager to remove the pitcher.

Did anoyne see...
That going into today’s game, the Cubs had a +136 run differential? I guess it’s now +143… which is 99 runs higher than the “best” team in baseball. (LAA)
THATS the biggest reason i keep giving people
that the cubs are better than the angels
by cubsonWGN4ever on Aug 6, 2008 4:23 PM CDT up reply actions
Yup. Another reason there's no reason to worry if
this team trails in the early innings. They will score.
And we're doing it with only one regular hitting over .300...
and that guy only hits scrappy singles and plays below average defense at the most important defensive position on the field!
As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.

those BA numbers
are going to change, I think…
’’If somebody had told me we were going to lose Soriano for eight weeks, lose [Carlos] Zambrano and Kerry Wood for a couple of weeks apiece, and then at the same time lose [Reed] Johnson, and then when we played the American League not have a DH [then-injured Daryle Ward], and be in first place by two games, I’d tell you we were pretty fortunate.’’ Lou Piniella (7/23/08)

They don't matter, as long as our team OPS remains as high as it is.
Proud recipient of a hot dog shot from the Iowa Cubs hot dog gun.
Games like this really help us out in that stat
I still think the Angels are awfully good. As in best team in baseball.
Missouri Tigers 2008 Cotton Bowl Champs
We can take them.
We can take ANYONE right now.

We can beat them no question
But to think the Angels have that record on accident is foolish.
Missouri Tigers 2008 Cotton Bowl Champs
I think they have it
in part because they’re in a weak division.

True, but they have good starting pitching and a lights out bullpen
We can outscore them, but I don’t see many teams beating them if they get into the 8th with the lead.
Missouri Tigers 2008 Cotton Bowl Champs
that's fine.
we’ll just score first then.

Not really, They are 23-10 against the AL East
and only 19-12 in their own division. 17 over on the road.

Look at the expected W/L records..

True. They are what the D Backs were last year
Also a great record in 1 run games.
"WGN, Channel 9 Cubs Baseball, Excitingly, Importantly, Dramatically Yours." - Jack Brickhouse
They're better than that...
but maybe a “very rich man’s version of the 2007 DBacks.”
My take is...their offense is middle of the road in the AL...
their pitching is quite solid. Just glancing at the Angles team page in baseball-reference.

My scorecard...
yes 1. Sori will have at least 1 XBH.

half 2. Jason will have a QS and at least 1 hit.

yes 3. DeRo will reach base at least twice.

half 4. The Cubs will make at least 2 great defensive plays.

no 5. Jim Edmonds will have at least 1 RBI.

yes 6. The Cubs will win.
Three plus 2 halves…
I’ll try to do better on Friday!
