At .600 at 71% into the season, how many other years already surpassed
Cubs are at 69 wins....and on August 6th (71%) into the season they have surpassed the total wins of the following years:
2006 (66), 2002 (67), 2000 (65), 1999 (67), 1997 (68), 1994 (49), 1980 (64), 1974 (66), 1966 (59), 1962 (59), 1961 (64), 1960 (60), 1957 (62), 1956 (60), 1954 (64), 1953 (65), 1951 (62), 1950 (60), 1949 (61), 1948 (64), 1947 (69),
1925 (68), 1916 (67), 1902 (68), 1901 (53), 1900 (65), 1894 (57), 1893 (56)
Folks this is really historic, Cubs are on pace win 98 wins ironically the number in 1945 won more than 90 is FOUR!
1969 (92), 1984 (96), 1989 (93), 1998 (90),
Also Cubs pushed Houston to the edge of obivion, 14 games out....Cards are coming this weekend. They are 6 1/2 games out and could come in 5 1/2 games out and leave either 4 1/2 votes or 6 1/2 or 8 1/2 or 2 1/2 games out.
The thing is to break 98 wins Cubs will have to win 30 out the remaining 47 games or play .6382.

Not exactly
that list shows past teams who are better or comparable.
This list shows Cubs teams of the past who have won less for the entire season than this team has won up to this point.
I thought it was kind of interesting.

Guess when the Cubs pass 81 wins
It is a big benchmark in a season, 82 wins and by which date, passing before Sept 1st or Labor Day is a big deal.

The number of 90-win seasons is most critical here.
Four since 1945. FOUR.
The 43 home wins in 59 games—that’s a .729 winning percentage. Keep that up for a full season and the Cubs would win 59 home games this year.
That would break the club record (58). Which was set in 1910.

1998
Keep in mind, it took 163 games for the ‘98 team to win 90. The Cubs have only won 90 games in a 162-game regular season (ties not counted) only three times since 1945.
Yeah, I know the 1969 team had one tie game, so you could call the 1969 season a 163-game regular season. The 1984 team had one rain out not made up, so you could call that season a 161-game regular season.

Just wondering here
Have the Cubs ever won 100 games in a season?

1910 104-50
1909 104-49
1907 107-45
1906 116-36

Ahh...
Nothing quite like the bi-weekly Ivy Walls post about statistical eccentricities followed with a drawn out paragraph serving as summary. One could almost set one’s sun dial…

I think I'd much rather know
what our magic number is. It’s August. It’s ok to ask about that now, right?
’’If somebody had told me we were going to lose Soriano for eight weeks, lose [Carlos] Zambrano and Kerry Wood for a couple of weeks apiece, and then at the same time lose [Reed] Johnson, and then when we played the American League not have a DH [then-injured Daryle Ward], and be in first place by two games, I’d tell you we were pretty fortunate.’’ Lou Piniella (7/23/08)
