I've been watching these guys in Iowa, waiting for them to decline, but it hasn't happened yet. While too old to be considered real prospects prior to the season, Hoffpauir and Dubois are putting up absurd numbers in Iowa this year. At what point do they start to have legitimate trade value?
Micah Hoffpauir: .358/.384/.716 11 BB/30 SO in 204 AB
Jason Dubois: .318/.411/.693 23 BB/50 SO in 179 AB
Dubois has normalish BB/SO numbers for stats like his. Hoffpauir's, OTOH, are truly bizarre looking. He has shown absolutely no ability to draw walks. But unlik guys like Soriano or Braun, he only has 30 SOs so far. His SO/HR ratio is 2!!! That's better than what Pujols has done, and he's the best in baseball at this.
This isn't to say it matters if he strikes out a lot or not if he puts up big numbers, but to wonder if it shows some kind of additional skill that makes his '08 numbers translate to higher production at the big league level.
