give him time
he’s had to make a huge number of adjustments—not just athletically, but culturally and in his private life.
part of the issue
is he is 31, he shoud know how to make these adjustments, he is not some 22 year old first timer. i really hope he snaps out of it, he is a big part of this team to not contribute on a regular basis
Let go cubs
Every player goes through slumps and streaks.
People just tend to overreact to certain player’s slumps.
the one issue is how
some say he is tired by playing more games….....how is that going to change at his age….we need him for more than 120-130 games….....maybe he should take about 4 or 5 days off
Let go cubs
Ugh.
It really bugs me how baseball people – fans, announcers, even players – treat every slump or streak like cavemen inventing gods to explain the sun rising every day. Not everything needs to be explained.
This "slump" has been going on for
over 120 AB’s. That’s longer than your normal slump.
My new life, my new world, and my beautiful daughter:

So you don't think it's anything to worry about?
My new life, my new world, and my beautiful daughter:

he is very good
but did you see the arm that guy has from the Reds, that dude can flat our throw
Let go cubs
i dont know about that
your right field needs to have a good arm to keep people from going 1st to 3rd all day
Let go cubs
Yes, but when you look at players who are everyday right fielders...
...the difference between the best and worst arms are something like 10 runs a season. The gap between the best and worst right fielders is more like 30 runs.
really
sun, ball is slicing away from you, longest thorw (1st to 3rd), center has the most distance, but if the ball gets by you in RF is all over
Let go cubs
Center field is the toughest position in the outfield.
This is why right fielders hit better than center fielders – because you can put some dumb lug in RF so long as he has an arm. This is why Ward will occasionally play right, but never, ever, EVER center field.
thats speed
plus your less likely to get balls in right field as most guys bat right handed and pull the ball.
I am talking about the legistics of playing it not the stats of playing it
Let go cubs
Right, except you're overlooking...
...”getting to the baseball,” which is the most important element of defense. It’s easy to play any outfield position if you just let the ball drop in front/behind/to your left and right all the time.
well
you make good points. we can just agreee to disagree on that one. RF does see a much less action that other do, thats why teams try to “hide” good hitters out there.
Let go cubs
The question is always the same...
Who is available who would be better? Left fielders don’t grow on trees.
I don't think it's worth worrying over as much as everyone is.
Since Dome has never played a full season in the majors before, people don’t have a known-good prior to compare him to. When Ramirez hits a slump… well, some people give a shit, but most people realize that he’ll turn it around.
With Dome, people don’t have that safety blanket, so they tend to react more.
I hope your right
I would have thought with his experience that he would be able to make the adjustments a lot quicker, but everyone is different
Let go cubs
It's not necessarily about adjustments.
Sometimes you go out there and do all the right things, and the wrong results happen. It’s what happens when you’re not hitting off a tee, you’re hitting live pitching with live fielders out there. You have to keep perspective on it.
i think he needs to watch
how edmonds stays in the box….he just seems to be moving too much….maybe thats how he hits but that movement is going to be tough to make adjustments with
Let go cubs
He needs to visit the bench till he starts to hit
This isn’t some fantasy camp that Lou’s running here.
If The Lead Evaporates Down To 1 Gm
then maybe it would be good for a couple days off.

Quick, which hitter is...
...Fukudome and which is Reed Johnson?
.299/.363/.444
.273/.374/.405
Yeah, if we tank our CF platoon, we can downgrade our defense in right and get a whole 5 points of OPS+ more! Assuming that Reed Johnson forgets what his platoon split is and hits better than .266/.314/.392 against right-handed pitching!
That's actually something resembling a decent idea out of you.
Of course, here’s the thing about Dome:
Versus RHP: .275/.378/.423
Versus LHP: .268/.360/.351
Dome’s hitting just fine against RHP; it’s lefties that are giving him trouble. Mike Fontenot’s .143/.294/ .214 line against left-handed pitching helps us out how?
I bet that's a small sample size.
(I immediately apologize for only instigating.)
"This is an environment of welcoming, and you should just get the hell outta here." --Michael Scott
Sure it is.
Fontenot has 78 career PAs against LHP, last I checked. Awfully small sample size.
But again, nothing that has been brought up is enough of a clear upgrade on offense to offset the hit on defense.
True but I really don't give
a f*ck about your smartass answers. How’s that for a decent idea, Saber-dork?

Dear Sean Marshall,
We’re chasing 7 runs, so please just throw strikes and don’t pick at the corners and walk people.
Thank you.
As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.

I am prepared for the greatest
comeback of this season!
"This is an environment of welcoming, and you should just get the hell outta here." --Michael Scott
7 runs would not be the biggest comeback
But that would be fine with me.
Let’s do this. I’d love to see Marshall’s position come up this inning…so much for all that double-swithcing!
THIS IS OUR CENTURY!!
Here is the transcript of the biggest comeback this year
Pat: A swing and a fly ball, left-center field, pretty well-hit, back toward the wall! That ball is gone!!!
Ron: Yeaaaaaaggghhhhhhh!!!
Pat: Two-run homer!
Ron: Unbelievable!
Pat: Cubs lead 10 to 9!
Ron: Can you believe it!
Ron: UnbeLIEVable Patrick!
Ron: Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh, what a day! What a day. Listen to these fans. Oh, they’re going nuts!
Pat: Another ball got up into the wind and carried into the seats…
Ron: Ha ha ha ha ha ha
Pat: Mark DeRosa with a two-run homer, the Cubs lead 10 to 9, can you believe it!
My next sig line quote will also be from Lou Piniella, and the first word will be either "Look", or "Listen", followed by a comma.
Plenty of time for it

I'd really like another one of those.
These are the saddest of possible words: "Tinker to Evers to Chance"
If StL is going to get even with Z, I'd rather they do it all in one game.
Hopefully Z returns to his dominant ways against them next time.
THIS IS OUR CENTURY!!
Perhaps those
talking a-holes doing the comentary could stop focusingon thier frickin homeruns a bit.

Just a bad day for Z
No radar, but it didn’t look like Z had a lot of velocity or movement, and there were too many pitches over the heart of the plate. As with Harden recently, even the best have a bad day here and there. Meanwhile, we can’t seem to do the right thing with Welly even on the meatballs he occasionally throws.

the reason we’re losing is clearly because this game is on Fox. If we had WGN or CSN with Len and Bob, we’d TOTALLY be winning.

Serious question
is today’s outing by Z cause for concern?
How does a pitcher look so bad from outta the blue?
"This is an environment of welcoming, and you should just get the hell outta here." --Michael Scott
I don't think so...
It didn’t seem like he was hurting, just lack of command. And the wind was blowing out. It happens.
I'm not concerned
It just happens with even the best sometimes. And Z let his emotions get the better of him, once everything started to unravel.
Of course, the best thing Cubs fans do is be “concerned” about something. :)

Sounds Like An Off-Day
I’m telling myself this happens in the post-season…you’ll see a very good starting pitcher get pwned by the opposition. Trouble is, I wouldn’t call the Cards’ offense postseason material.
