Poetry in honor of the Theriot-Fontenot-Lee double play
These are the saddest of possible words:
Tinker to Evers to Chance.
Trio of bear cubs, and fleeter than birds,
Tinker and Evers and Chance.
Ruthlessly pricking our gonfalon bubble,
Making a Giant hit into a double—
Words that are heavy with nothing but trouble:
Tinker to Evers to Chance.
alright. Let's go.

Can we all get a card together...
...for Ludwick with his career stats on it, kind of a reminder of how much he sucks? Seriously.
Is there a way to project what would be "expected" of Ludwick based on his Minor League numbers?
"I've never complained about it. I'm thankful to have a jersey." Mark DeRosa, 22 Aug 2007
OK, what would you expect from DeRo based on Minor League equivalencies?
I’m not disagreeing with your statement on Ludwick at all—it does seem weird that he’s suddenly an all-star.
It just seems strange that there are a handful of players that aren’t A (or even B+) level prospects that end up being good everyday players, and there are guys like Lopez that consistently underachieve.

Don't know off the top of my head.
The minors have much more dramatic park and league factors than the majors.

Can it with the Cy Young stuff already
When you’re losing 9-2, it doesn’t matter all that much, does it?

BTW, is there any other pitcher people can use in that situation besides “Cy Young”? How about “Walter Johnson” or “Nolan Ryan”?

How many times
are we going to hear about Banks Bvd?
Hopefully after the last
time when some of us emailed ESPN it won’t be mentioned.
Good luck Shawn Johnson, Lolo Jones and Doug Schwab. Bring home the gold!!!
Side note: Sean Marshall is pitching good.
I guess my 4th grade English teacher in Kilmer School would tell me “pitching well”

I say we score at least 3 runs in the 7th
and start getting into the DeadBirds bullpen.
Let’s score…now!!
THIS IS OUR CENTURY!!
I remember smelt fishing by the rock pier as a teenager
and doing other things as well. Never ate the things though.
My next sig line quote will also be from Lou Piniella, and the first word will be either "Look", or "Listen", followed by a comma.
When I was a kid
Going smelting was just an excuse for underage drinking.
My next sig line quote will also be from Lou Piniella, and the first word will be either "Look", or "Listen", followed by a comma.
I didn't know the great lakes had
“thangs”
"This is an environment of welcoming, and you should just get the hell outta here." --Michael Scott
Smelt > alewives, BTW
My next sig line quote will also be from Lou Piniella, and the first word will be either "Look", or "Listen", followed by a comma.
Um, no I was saying they are better than alewives, another product of Lake Michigan, which just die and get washed up on the beach
or at least they did when the lake was all polluted.
My next sig line quote will also be from Lou Piniella, and the first word will be either "Look", or "Listen", followed by a comma.
shows you how much I know about alewives
although I once worked in a company located in Alewife Park
If you're on a beach in the Chicago area
and there’s a dead, rotting fish in the sand - that’s an alewife.
My next sig line quote will also be from Lou Piniella, and the first word will be either "Look", or "Listen", followed by a comma.
I've fished up in Minnesota
and lived in Wisconsin and I’m still in Chicago… but I don’t remember smelt… weird…
Can you fish fry them?
I love visiting my mother in Wisconsin on Fridays because of tasty tasty fish fry at Gordy’s
Calroies
Don’t count on fish fry fridays. Or at least that’s my rule!
Fried fish + potato pancakes + apple sauce + beer = yum
Mighty Good Appetizers
and they go great with a cold Iron City or Rolling Rock.

Trolls been
around much today?
Good luck Shawn Johnson, Lolo Jones and Doug Schwab. Bring home the gold!!!
actually, no.
As I said yesterday, it’s awful hard to troll on a team that’s 24 games over .500, with the best league in the NL.

Oh yeah Hank White time!!
Fontenot may be the least likely looking home run hitter. He packs a big punch with his 5-foot-8 physique. Where's the power come from?
"I don't know," Fontenot said. "I've always had decent power my whole life. I guess it's bat speed. Timing a little bit. My grown-man strength."

Not really, KC
There’s a fine line between enough rest and too much. Plus, with the day off Thursday, everybody is getting an extra day (and I believe Harden might be getting two).

what fear TLR has for the Cubs comeback ability that he is managing for every out
with a 7 run lead and he still tried to bunt for an extra run in the earlier inning.
Or maybe it is just the fact that he over-manages

Does Theriot not strike out much
because he is very good at putting wood to horsehide, or because he swings early in the count?
