They had some good opportunities

Two very nice plays in the outfield by the Cubs that inning. It is nice to see Kosuke isn’t taking his hitting slump into the field with him.

A balk that didnt get called and two spectacular catches!!

my theory earlier was that most pitchers now just throw outside to the cubs.

I have been charting how many pitches are outside. At that point in this inning it was 10 of 18 pitches on the outer half or farther.

There is something terribly wrong with Derrek Lee. Either he’s just getting old, or he’s injured, or he’s losing his eyesight, or he’s in a bad place mentally.

But he does not belong anywhere near the batter’s box in a big spot. He’s a liability.

right....it was right down the middle though....hmmmm....maybe only pitches on the inside are hittable for him anymore

I remember in 2004 how they talked about he was great about the outside pitch, but pitchers would consistently beat him inside. He finally adjusted, and feasted on constant pitches inside. Well, the pitchers have finally adjusted, and he needs to find some consistency. Heck, if you know what is coming, you should be able to catch up to it. and get under it.

Lee didn't really make that play...

….Aramis did. The throw wasn’t good enough to get the out.

Pretty sure he made the heads-up play to get the tying run.

by dtpollitt on Sep 11, 2008 10:18 PM CDT up reply actions

His throw was bad.

Aramis was pulled out of the play, and had to get him on a freak overslide.

by D98 on Sep 11, 2008 10:19 PM CDT up reply actions

actually, it was

Aramis had to hustle back because he was charging — ball should have been bunted to 3rd.

Had he been playing back, throw essentially tags the runner.

Aramis made a nice play. Lee screwed it up.

no, he didn't

watch it again. throw was right there. Aramis was in for the bunt and had to hustle back.

The throw was up the 3rd base line.

Aramis had to spin around to try to tag the runner.

Lee had very little to do with that out.

Dlee made the fundamentally correct play but we got lucky

by cubsonWGN4ever on Sep 11, 2008 10:19 PM CDT up reply actions

Look....

the guy was safe at 3rd on the original throw. I don’t see what DLee’s glove had to do with anything on that play.

DLee is a big reason for the Cubs success before, during and after. Anyone who says otherwise is itching for a fight.

Wood gets ALL his confidence back in that one…I love Lou keeping him in, as stressful as it was. He’s our closer, he’s one of the leaders, and he needed that f-ing MONSTER out. Wow.

5.5 games up, Brewers lose their best chance to win against the Phillies this weekend – Sheets threw today, they miss CC, and now they have to face Hamels. I LOVE IT.

However, if your explanation is indeed the case here, isn’t that a bit hypocritical? If one feels they shouldn’t write the name of God, then is it really any different if they write G-d? If what they type is being tracked on the great scorecard of life, I’m pretty sure that G-d gets as big of an ‘e’ as God…

I honestly can't believe that there is a lack of action.

I mean, com’on, we already know there are numerous neutral sites we could be playing at this weekend. Any doubleheader or screw-up in the schedule only helps the Brewers and/or other wild card contenders.

Unfortunately

I am not sure how much authority he really has in this situation. I know that for an “normal” game, the home team controls the start of the game. If it is raining, they are the ones who decide not to start and or cancel. The umpires/MLB have no control until the first pitch is thrown.

At this point, they are probably just a mediator between the Stros and the Cubs.

The Chicago Media

is a bunch of worry warts…

Harden pitches a good game but instead of talking about that, they talk about his velocity. Yeah, he was not flaming it up there…but he has not really be doing that at all in most of his starts. He has been mixing a high 80s, Low 90s fastball with his changeup. He was doing the same shit that Hammels did to us.

To this guys even understand the art of pitching…not about velocity. Location, Location, Location, and Deception

Well nobody is gonna beat him if he pitches like that in the playoffs

He didn’t have control issues, so what if he doesn’t K everyone. I like it better when he gets pop-ups and has a low pitch count.
