They had some good opportunities
Two very nice plays in the outfield by the Cubs that inning. It is nice to see Kosuke isn’t taking his hitting slump into the field with him.
What an inning !
A balk that didnt get called and two spectacular catches!!
This game could be the turning point!!

He's absolutely right
There is something terribly wrong with Derrek Lee. Either he’s just getting old, or he’s injured, or he’s losing his eyesight, or he’s in a bad place mentally.
But he does not belong anywhere near the batter’s box in a big spot. He’s a liability.

right....it was right down the middle though....hmmmm....maybe only pitches on the inside are hittable for him anymore
I remember in 2004 how they talked about he was great about the outside pitch, but pitchers would consistently beat him inside. He finally adjusted, and feasted on constant pitches inside. Well, the pitchers have finally adjusted, and he needs to find some consistency. Heck, if you know what is coming, you should be able to catch up to it. and get under it.

There were pinch-hitters available.
Edmonds or Ward – both left-handed.
Lee is batting .200-ish with RISP and 2 out.
So who would play first base in that scenario?
I’d prefer to have his defense at first with a one-run lead.

with Ramirez not close to the bag. We got a very lucky break there when Ryan overslid.

actually, it was
Aramis had to hustle back because he was charging — ball should have been bunted to 3rd.
Had he been playing back, throw essentially tags the runner.

5.5 games up, Brewers lose their best chance to win against the Phillies this weekend – Sheets threw today, they miss CC, and now they have to face Hamels. I LOVE IT.

I was just having a little fun with initials.
However, if your explanation is indeed the case here, isn’t that a bit hypocritical? If one feels they shouldn’t write the name of God, then is it really any different if they write G-d? If what they type is being tracked on the great scorecard of life, I’m pretty sure that G-d gets as big of an ‘e’ as God…

I honestly can't believe that there is a lack of action.
I mean, com’on, we already know there are numerous neutral sites we could be playing at this weekend. Any doubleheader or screw-up in the schedule only helps the Brewers and/or other wild card contenders.

agree any soultion that includes a DH only hurts the Cubs.
Neutral site is the only soultion, especially if its a Cat 4…..they wont be able to get to Houston let alone play games there.

Unfortunately
I am not sure how much authority he really has in this situation. I know that for an “normal” game, the home team controls the start of the game. If it is raining, they are the ones who decide not to start and or cancel. The umpires/MLB have no control until the first pitch is thrown.
At this point, they are probably just a mediator between the Stros and the Cubs.

is there a Magic Number for Best Record in NL/Home Field ?
by nervousCUBlover on Sep 11, 2008 10:41 PM CDT reply actions
Should be 12...
since the Mets were off today, and both the Brewers and Mets were at 13 coming into the day.
Little early for that.
We are up on the Brewers by 5.5 games, and the Mets are right there with them for record, and there are still 14-17 games left for teams. Too early to determine that, I think.
Evey Hammond: Vi Veri Veniversum Vivus Vici. V: By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.
All I know is that if they are playing in Atlanta this weekend
I am THERE
Well, Next Year is here .. and Jack's century's gotta end some time .. GO CUBBIES!
Magic number is 11
If the Cubs win half their last 16 games, the Brewers would have to win all but 2.
There's no way any games should be played in Houston
Al’s post today was right on the money — neutral site, give the Astros cash for lost revenue. The games need to be played without much delay.

Do two things
Play two games on Sunday and Monday in Atlanta. Gives the Stros time to help their families.
Fly/Bus the Stros and their Families to Atlanta, all expenses paid by MLB,
Play the last game of the year only if needed.

Two games…One Sunday and One Monday.
The Stros probably don’t care about playing a DH as much because they pretty much play crap teams the rest of the way

Watched in a bar and was cursing DLee all the way but cheering for the great catches by Sori and Dome and Woody’s clutch pitching in the 9th. Wow!!

With all due respect to DLee's Golden Glove
His bat looks like lead …
Do we give Hoffpauir a start and hope his glove is as good?
Well, Next Year is here .. and Jack's century's gotta end some time .. GO CUBBIES!

I hope I find $1,000,000 in there. Both are equally likely.
I get the point about the bat, but the glove ain’t gonna be there.

I'm more concerned
about D. Lee’s lack of driving the ball, and the fact that he – as we all know – hits into way too many double plays. I don’t care as much about the Ks.

MLB is the biggest bunch of idiots ever
They are playing chicken with God.
The have a Cat 4 Hurricane barreling down on Houston. What the hell are they going to do if this storm destroys the infrastructure of the city and there is no way they can play baseball games in houston.
Just play 2 damn games in Atlanta….Pony up to fly the Astros Families to Atlanta for the game, etc, etc. Then if the third game is needed, play it at the end of the season.
I don’t care where they play the games…i just want them played so we don’t F ourselves by having a DH the day before the Crew series

The Chicago Media
is a bunch of worry warts…
Harden pitches a good game but instead of talking about that, they talk about his velocity. Yeah, he was not flaming it up there…but he has not really be doing that at all in most of his starts. He has been mixing a high 80s, Low 90s fastball with his changeup. He was doing the same shit that Hammels did to us.
To this guys even understand the art of pitching…not about velocity. Location, Location, Location, and Deception
