Astros are only three out of the wild card
I was just thinking how bad I would feel for the Brewers to have traded away their future for the present and not even make the playoffs. If the Astros continue to play as well as they have, the Brewers can easily be last year's Mets, except that this is for the wildcard. This raises the next most logical question, who would you fear more? On one hand, you have the Brewers with two legitimate aces pitching games one and two whereas the Astros are just on the hottest streak at the right time. Too bad I can't add a poll....so what are your insights?

I wouldn't say the Brewers traded away their future
Matt LaPorta is a good prospect but he plays LF and DH, two positions the Brewers don’t need a player for. And Zach Jackson isn’t exactly a huge loss for the Brewers.
Plus, you can’t count out the Phillies, they are only three games out of the Wild Card as well.

Don't forget that there's a PTBNL
If the Brewers make the playoffs, the Indians get to choose who that is.
Otherwise, the Brewers choose.

Phillies and Cardinals
Phillies and Cardinals are ahead of them.
Phillies are a better team.

Phillies have an easier schedule, as well
And 3 games head-to-head with the Brewers

Stop feeling bad for the brewers, we haven't won in 100 years
that is worse than any team in baseball, feel bad for no one

Also, do you think Brewers fans feel sorry for the Cubs?
Not a chance.

Likely not

the brewer fans on the other hand seem to be pure evil

Not all of them
I have several friends who are Brewers fans. I really think it’s a vocal minority, and the media in Milwaukee plays it up. I will admit that my wishes towards the team is affected by how the vocal minority as acted towards me over the years . . . but if the Brewers won, I’d be happy for my friends. I guess.

I know some of us (myself included)
were making fun the astros for being buyers at the trading deadline instead of sellers. Opps, don’t I feel like an ass now. I personally don’t want the philles making the playoffs, for some reason they scare me.

With you on the Phillies...
and to answer the poster’s question, I’d rather the Astros get in…if for some reason you face them in the NLCS, they have 1 starter and a bunch of deadarms. Our pitching depth would easily beat them in a 7 game series.
Oh! I forgot they have Brian “Second coming of Cy Young” Moehler. Please, no Astros!!!!

They could try to throw Oswalt 3 times
but I’ll take my chances against the Moellers and Backes of the world. They’d have to get through the NL East winner, too, which wouldn’t be easy. The scariest part of the Astros would be the return of El Caballo.
Philadelphia’s lineup can be intimidating, while I think the Cubs can hit their pitching after Hamels.

The Phillies...
…are a scary team to me. If their pitchers throw well, their lineup is formidable and they are a club that can get on a serious role.
The Stros have done this late season surge several times now in the last 4 years, I don’t know why they start like crap, but I don’t see them being as good a team as the Phils.

Ike
This hurricane probably killed the Astros. If you think the Cubs are messed up with this the Astros have it worse.
If it’s played in a neutral site it doesn’t affect the Cubs as much. Road games are road games.

Likely Scenario:
they will plan for a doubleheader on Monday in Houston while planning for a doubleheader at an alternate field on Monday. We know the Cubs are going to be in Chicago on Saturday waiting to go somewhere Saturday night.
The hurricane might end up being a Cat 3 or 4 beast and won’t make landfall until Saturday morning. If that’s the case, there’s no way the Cubs are going to risk flying into that area Saturday night. If it is that bad, I don’t think Houston will be thinking about baseball on Sunday or even Monday.

I just read what Loretta said about the Hurricane...
He said that he heard that the Cubs wanted to play in MIL this weekend. While I understand the home field advantage issue with MIL being “Wrigley North” and all, but he took a different approach.
He said something like, leave our families here in Houston to go to Milwaukee? That seems like something we wouldn’t want to do. That got “nixed” pretty quickly.
So am I to assume that if they postpone the games, this changes things at all? If they are not travelling to Milwaukee, they will be safer at home in Houston cause the players will be there too?
I am confused. Wouldn’t you want to take your families out of harms way whether youhave a game to play or not? Why can’t they take their families to Atlanta, Washington, St Louis, etc?
They sound like a bunch of babies if you ask me. He went on to say this is an inconvenience for everyone with the hurricane which is true but the matter he chose to focus on seems absolutely inconsequential.

I'll disagree.
Personally, I think it’d be hilarious if the Brewers missed the playoffs. I consider the Brewers to be the Cubs’ little brother in a lot of ways, and this is the second consecutive year we’ve been holding the division title over their heads and yelling “come get it! come get it!” They keep jumping, but we keep holding it just a little bit too high for them.
And this year they’ve got a terrific shot at getting us back by sneaking behind us to grab the wild card. They’ve had such a huge advantage for that spot all year… I’d most certainly crack up if they don’t get there. Maybe I just know too many FWBs.

Hmmm.
“FWBs” was supposed to be a play on Wisconsinites’ favorite derogatory name for Illinois residents, but instead it came out like I just have a lot of “friends with benefits”.

I could care less about how the Brewers, Mets or any other team in the hunt feels
Seriously.
I just DON’T care and never will.
I am a Cubs fan. End of discussion.
As to who is going to be worse down the stretch? Possibly the Astros. They are playing the kind of ball the Cubs were playing about two weeks ago – they are intent on that wild card berth. The Brewers aren’t going to be a push over, but I think they are going to fall short ..
As long as we can keep ahead of all of them, this too shall pass.

The Astros are doing what the Rockies did last year.
They are 14-1 since August 26, when they were a .500 team at 66-66. Irony: the only loss in that streak is to… the Rockies.
Can they keep this up? Who knows? Oswalt has been a really hot pitcher and has helped carry them.

Oswalt...
…has sick stuff and when he throws strikes, is a major force.
With him only pitching every 5 games though, there has to be position players that have put the team on their back as well.

Not laughable
They get a first round pick and supplemental first round pick from the guy. It’s not a complete wash. Besides, he’s helped sell out that stadium.

Not at all laughable
When you have a shot, you go for it. They did the right thing.
Plus, their farm system is stocked. They traded a 1B/DH-type player. Where was he going to play on the Brewers? Even if they trade Fielder, my guess is that Braun moves to first.

I'd rather face the Astros
They’ve lost the biggest bat in their lineup for the year in Carlos Lee. I know they’re hot, but I think they will falter without his big time RBI bat in the lineup for the playoffs. Plus if you put any stock into pythagorean W-L, they’re extremely lucky since they’ve actually allowed more runs than they’ve scored on the season.
Then again, they do have a similar feel to last year’s D-Backs and we all know how that worked out….

Lee might come back for the playoffs.

They are obsessed with the Cubs they better be more worried about the teams chasing them not the Cubs ahead of them.

I DESPISE the Astros,
I really don’t know if I can explain it…
I have always respected Cards fans, and I’ve never really felt threatened by the Brewers. (Even though many of their fans seem to be threatened by us.)
But there is just something bout those Astros that gets under my skin…
I suppose the attitudes of Valverde and Tejada really don’t help, but still… the entire team irritates me to no end.
