The Merkle Game Remembered (and a BCB mention on NPR)
Was listening to NPR on the drive home from work Friday when a story about how the 1908 Cubs won the pennant came on. I had never heard about this, and it was a great listen - I recommend it to everyone here....
Also, there was another story about this years Cubs (typical stuff really), and there is a BCB mention....Give it a listen as well by clicking on the "In Chicago, Optimism For Cubs Despite Losses" link.
But make sure you listen to the Merkle game story!!!

I was going to post this also as soon as I heard it on NPR.
The Merkle story was great…makes me want to read the book (if I ever have the time)….
If you, reader, are superstitious, forget about the goat.
I’ve always thought that if there is a curse, and I doubt it, then It’s the “Merkle Curse.” That guy was so irritated and villified for his “boner” that he could have easily cursed the Cubs promising they may reach the World Series but will never win it again. Perhaps the Cubs need to do something about Mr. Merkle to break the spell.
I don’t believe in that stuff but if you, reader, do, maybe this is the real curse. Since it hasn’t been recognized, that may explain the Cubs’ 100 year misery.
