Update: Cubs @ Astros in Milwaukee Sunday And Monday

UPDATE FROM AL -- Added to the front page so everyone will see this. Thanks for posting it!

Update: Ticket Info here! (Thanks to Neifi Puppy for providing the link!)

cst_cubs cst_cubs Finally. Cubs and Stros to play in Milw, 7:05 sunday, 1:05 monday. Will play 3rd game 9/29 if needed. from txt

Gordo hasn't added ticket info yet, but I will update as soon as it comes across the wire, or at least as soon as Twitter updates.

And heres hoping the 3rd game is of NO importance... I really don't want to make it up that late!!

Update: Looks like McLane finally came around to make this happen:

Minute Maid Park in Houston avoided serious damage and has been deemed playable, but not even Astros officials suggest any longer that games should be played amid the hardships area residents are enduring in the aftermath of Ike.

``We’d hate to play our game in Houston if there’s still lots of suffering in the city,’’ McLane told the Houston Chronicle. ``We could get out and play somewhere else.

``We don’t want to play a game if folks are stressing with their homes. The safety of our fans is most important.’

And an excerpt:

The three-game series between the Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros, originally scheduled for this weekend in Houston, was in limbo because of Hurricane Ike. But Major League Baseball has found a home for the series, it seems.

Two of the three games were transferred to Milwaukee, according to a high-ranking Major League Baseball official. The teams will play the first game at Miller Park on Sunday at 7 p.m., ET. The second game is scheduled for Monday at 2 p.m., ET.

Start your engines

Wish I could go but a little too far from Chicago.
If Astros had not been so stubborn they could have played in Atlanta or some place just a little less likely to be swarmed by Cub fans. At this point sensible Brewer fans will root for the Cubs.

Not tomorrow's game

That would conflict with ESPN, UNLESS ESPN wants to change games and IF it rains in Chicago then
this WILL be the ESPN game. Hmm anyone think someone paid off Astros owner to go along with this ?
Very interesting.

I believe MLB can give an exemption to the teams that will allow them to televise the game locally.

I believe this occurred in 2003 when the Cubs were rained out on Friday and had to play a double header on Saturday. The teams were allows to televise the games as “The best interest of baseball” clause was invoked because of the playoff implication that was involved.

Hey, it's a new century!

by cowsarecool220 on Sep 13, 2008 9:21 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

This is almost as good as

brining the series to chicago. Astros fans are going to pitch a fit because Miller is pretty much Wrigley north and they have so much farther to go, but hey. having the best record in the league has to have some benefits doesn’t it? I know that isn’t the reason the games were put in Miller, but it seems as good a reason as any. I would agree with Doggie, not only will we have our people from Chicago, but most Brewers fans will also be rooting for us.

Time is an illusion--lunch time doubly so.

by snowyman28 on Sep 13, 2008 9:07 PM CDT   0 recs

One of the best things is that Berkman and Company have to drag their sorry @sses

from Houston to Wrigley Field North and pretend that they are the home team. HA HA! I wish I was close enough to drive up I-94 and give those guys a welcome to Wrigley Field North.

No double header ! This is great news for the Cubs...

….and easy travel as well.

This has worked out very well from a baseball perspective.

Tomorrow's game is NOT going to be on TV

the four letter network from Bristol CT has exclusive rights for Sunday night. And whatever game they have scheduled is the only baseball game on TV tomorrow night.

The 2nd game between the Brewers and Phillies is not going to be broadcast because this and people here are throwing a fit.

by PhillyCub on Sep 13, 2008 9:11 PM CDT   0 recs

Yes but see above

The game is supposed to be Sox/Tigers but if THAT is a rain out want to guess what they broadcast ?

"I am not ashamed to say I love Greg Maddux" - Jim Hendry

by Doggie Stalker on Sep 13, 2008 9:13 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I hope they broadcast it

ESPN normally would not have a backup game when the Sunday night game gets rained out? It sounds like the Sox/Tigers is going to be rained out tomorrow night. The Phils/Brewers play tomorrow night along with the Cubs/Astros. They now have backup games to broadcast.

Knowing my luck, I’ll get the Phils/Brewers

by PhillyCub on Sep 13, 2008 9:19 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Well they would have to move the Phillies game back 30 minutes

Which they could do but I strongly suspect IF the Sox get rained out , the Cubs are the ESPN game.
Pretty easy to get the crew to Milwaukee from Chicago if they know the situation early in the day.

by Doggie Stalker on Sep 13, 2008 9:23 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

They could do it that

How early would the Sox call the game for them to do this?

by PhillyCub on Sep 13, 2008 9:26 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Thats not correct

The Rangers and A’s played a Sunday Evening game earlier this Summer, and that was on FOX Sports Net whatever and was even on EI

But I think the Rangers are exempt from this rule because they play so many games at night during the summer to avoid the heat during the day

that is correct...the Rangers are exempt

It just says “Tickets will go on sale at 9 p.m. CT tonight” on the Brewer’s site…..but I can’t find a link to actually buy the tickets….

Jeez

Where you “shocked” that there was gambling at “Rick’s Cafe” ?

You have to figure they plotted all along how to make the most money out of this. Get a close
to desperate Cub fans willing to spend as you can. Per above note they appear to ONLY be
selling the MOST expensive seats. When those sell out I suspect they will add the cheaper ones.

money to the Astros owner somehow!!

24 hours notice, how many Cubs fans go to the Sunday and Monday games?

by PhillyCub on Sep 13, 2008 9:30 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Um what is the capacity of Miller ?

Also I figure there should a few hundred Brewer fans there to cheer us on.

by Doggie Stalker on Sep 13, 2008 9:32 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm going with about

15,000-20,000 Cubs fans.

I would be surprised but not shocked if there are more than that there.

by PhillyCub on Sep 13, 2008 9:34 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

According to the press release...

… they are only selling the first two levels of tickets. I think that would amount to about 25,000-27,000 if they sell all of them… which I assume they will.

MLB set precedent in 2004 and 2007 when games were relocated to sell tickets cheap.

THAT’S why I thought they would do the same for these games.

Seems like price gouging to me.

I just got some too. I feel a little bad for the Astros but then I remember that I’m going to a Cubs game so it doesn’t matter.

by CubFan81 on Sep 13, 2008 9:24 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

The Brewers did not waste any time marketing this

I just got an e Mail from them re the tickets because I had purchased tickets for the end of the season series. What does seem odd to me is that they are underestimating demand and only selling the expensive seats for now.

by Doggie Stalker on Sep 13, 2008 9:25 PM CDT   0 recs

I got the email too!

I’m really surprised they’re selling tickets using the Brewers pricing structure. I would think they would sell tickets cheap like they have in the past for relocated games.

I wonder if they are TRYING to keep attendance low.

Hey, it's a new century!

by cowsarecool220 on Sep 13, 2008 9:30 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Maybe.

They won’t succeed. I imagine TONS of Cubs fans will go to this game. However, I bet the high prices keep some of the locals away.

I don't see how it's unbelievable at all.

The Brewers know damn well they can sell out a Cubs game in Miller Park.

by JohnM on Sep 14, 2008 3:54 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yup - just got a pair in section 228

It took a few tries due to “high transaction volume”. I’m starting in Gurnee so heck, I’m halfway there – Miller Park isn’t much farther than Wrigley, probably about the same distance from home as Comiskey. Actually my first try was “best available” and they offered the $140 behind-the-plate seats. I’m sure they’re great — I’ve enjoyed Dugout Boxes at Wrigley a couple of times — but I’ll be happy in the “loge box”.

by ChipSet on Sep 13, 2008 10:01 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I don't see why it should be considered price gouging. It could be the most talent on the field at one time for this season at Miller Park.

It’s not like they are only going to use part of the facility or play minor leaguers (for the most part). I’ve heard here that in similar situations tickets were very cheap which would certainly be a nice collateral benefit but these should be “real” games in every sense of the word and cost appropriately. my $.02.

Hell, they might not play another game in MMP this season, even if they get in WC slot. Too bad to be them right now. This whole cluster fork in the road did not have to be executed so baddassadly. Pick an available facility that won’t be facing its own weather challenges and just move in like you do in Super Bowl nuetral location and play a game.
