Minor League Wrap--September 2
Everyone is in a bad mood tonight, so let's all take it easy on each other, OK?
Tonight's an easy night for me. I'm going to keep it simple.
Daytona Cubs
Daytona got real lucky tonight, as they were losing the first game of the Florida State League playoffs to the Palm Beach Cardinals 4-0 in the fifth inning when the rains came. The game was washed out and will be replayed from the beginning tomorrow in Palm Beach. Daytona will get a home game on Thursday instead.
Boise Hawks
The Hawks lost to the Spokane Indians, 6-4.
James Leverton got the start and threw 4.1 innings. He allowed four runs, three of which were earned runs, on five hits. He only walked one and struck out seven. He had two wild pitches.
Manolin DeLeon got the loss by allowing one run over 1.2 innings of relief. He also allowed one runner inherited from Leverton to score. DeLeon gave up four hits and struck out one.
Second baseman David Macias was 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI. DH Michael Brenly went 2 for 4.
Iowa starts its playoff series with Oklahoma tomorrow. Every other minor league team's season is over.

I agree with your opening statement...
Horrible day at work. Horrible baseball game (more of a Heartbreaker than horrible). Time to go to bed.

Is David...
David Macias any relation to Jose Macias?
One thing you learned as a Cubs fan: when you bought you ticket, you could bank on seeing the bottom of the ninth.

Considering
that Jose Macias is from Panama City, Panama and David Macias is from suburban Houston, I seriously doubt it.

Josh, got a question for ya
I read your posts but don’t follow the minors nearly as closely as you do. Who’s been hot lately that we could plug in for Z and get a few starts if necessary? I thought of Marshall, Lieber, Hill, or Gaudin. Marshall’s last few starts haven’t been too good, Lieber hasn’t been stretched out yet this year, and I’m not sure of the rest. Thoguhts?

Gosh, there aren't really any good options
in the minors. Your best option would be Chad Gaudin or Jeff Samardzija, honestly, if you weren’t willing to go with Marshall. Samardzija was starting all year in the minors before getting the call to Wrigley. Then I’d call up Kevin Hart to take their role in the bullpen.
I suppose if you weren’t willing to do that either, I guess Mitch Atkins or Randy Wells would be your best options, in that order. But I really wouldn’t want to do that.
