First Pitch Thread: Cubs vs. Cardinals, Saturday 9/20, 2:55 CT
"I don't believe a manager ever won a pennant. Casey Stengel won all those pennants with the Yankees. How many did he win with the Boston Braves and Mets? I've never seen a team win a pennant without players. I think the only thing the manager has to do is keep things within certain boundaries." -- Sparky Anderson

so iowa lost by one thanks to that bonehead christensen, AND
to make it worse, i’m having to watch the twins/rays….not too happy and i’ve already dipped into the bottle of soho…gonna be a long long long night for me
they didn't lose b/c christensen..
they left b/c the coaching staff continues to play him.. You can’t fault him for the coaching staff not having a clue on the better QB.. now back to your regular scheduled Cubs thread!!
"Go Cubs Go"
agree, but...
…i’m not so sure Stanzi is that much better. i just hope the cubs win today, or Iowa City will be one sad town when i go out tonight
you're right..
he may not be, but we don’t know yet b/c Ferentz refuses to give him the chance. And he was playing much better today than Jake was.
"Go Cubs Go"
i wish ferentz would just give up on jake
and see what stanzi can do given an entire game to prove himself. then we will know if he has potential or if we’re just stuck with two forgettable QBs. christensen isn’t the future of this team anyway, so why do we keep giving him chances?

on that note, I'd better grab a beer

Piniero needs to man up, and stop whining about his team's fielding...
Was that him moping in the dugout after his hissy-fit on the mound at that missed DP?

sure was.
maybe that’s why he’s bounced around from team to team

listening to McCarver is like having
knitting needles shoved in your eyes throughout the game. Just awful.
THIS IS OUR CENTURY!!
I know I'm the only one on this board,
but I like Tim McCarver. And Josh Lewin is far better than Joe Buck or Dick Stockton.
"I've never complained about it. I'm thankful to have a jersey." Mark DeRosa, 22 Aug 2007
well, just in the interest of fairness
Josh Lewin did say Wrigley Field is affectionately called “America’s Peter Pan Ballpark” and I can’t stand it when announcers make stuff up like that.
But given the choices of Buck, Stockton or Lewin, I’d take cyanide.

Something is wrong with the fox pbp guy, though...
He is saying that the curses are irrelevant. That is totally off the fox script.

I wonder if Pineiro will be back with the Cards next year
after his antics that inning. Showing up your fielders (particularly when walking guys) isn’t the way to win friends and influence people.

That too...
What’s his contract status?

One good thing I'll say about Theriot
he’s really good about popping up out of a slide

Theriot has been nice to have for the past two years
but I think we need to invest in a SS this offseason..

+1
He’s a good player to have on the bench but we can upgrade at SS

Theriot is the best ever...
Since there can be no middle ground…. Had to represent.

We have two better SSs on the roster already...

Cedeno and DeRo...

well I wouldn't say DeRo is a SS, especially next year when he is 34
I always wonder. Could Vitters, though won’t be ready next year, play SS?
2008 Cubs: Who needs nine innings, when you only need a 7th?
Seriously doubt it.
There are some folks that still wonder if VItters can stick at third. His bat is supposed to play anywhere, though.

I am ashamed to say I know a few Cards fans and they claim that Lilly
is gonna get his nuts kicked in by the Cards because of what he did to Molina last time.
I’m thinking that it was a clean play and TLR forgot about it. What think all of you?

That was baseball.
LaRussa headhunts for two reasons: to protect “his guys” and to play head games with people. This would probably serve neither purpose.
