My daughter's first ever Cub game
Taking her to her first game was unbelievable and I had to smile as she expressed surprise at how many ppl there were, how loud it was, how much beer was being drank (yeah!) and the various things she experienced at her first ball game. It brought back a lot of memories for me and it was cool watching her experience these things.
Nothing planned me for the ninth inning however. In all the years of going to the games I've never heard it get as loud as it did when Soto tied it up in the ninth with that homer!!! I've never been hugged by so many ppl I never and will never know, never saw so many ppl stand on the seats jumping up and down and seeing ppl dancing in the aisles with joy.
It was, for me, up to that point, the greatest moment I've ever had at Wrigley, or for that matter any field. What was even greater however was seeing my daughter cheering for the Cubs. She never has followed baseball all that much, but seeing her get into the game and screaming her head off with me as the Cubs came from behind is something I will never forget. It is the moment I know my daughter became a Cubs fan.
She cheered when they won in the 12th.... Me, I cried. I've been waiting all my life for this team and when they won I was overcome by it all. I cheered and screamed and held my little girl and cried for joy.
But, I don't think it was the win that did it, but seeing the look in her eyes as they won was what brought tears to my eyes. All the years of disappointment, all the years of "wait till next year" and all the years of wondering IF they ever will win it all became moot at that moment. My little girl became a Cubs fan and at that moment what being a Cubs fan is all about became very clear to me.
When the Cubs win it all this year it will be my second greatest moment in watching the Cubs for all these years. The first will be the moment I saw my little girl become a Cubs fan during the magical season I've waited all my life for..... The season the Cubs win it all and my little girl became a Cubs fan like her old man.

I'm happy for you to be able to enjoy that experience
I had a similar one with my younger sister this year at Wrigley at an extra innings game, so I can say that I know the feeling.
That’s why a passionate environment like Wrigley is such a great thing, not only for the players, but also the fans.

I took my daughter to her first game this season, too.
It was a somewhat less dramatic game – the 5-4 Cubs win over the Rockies on May 31. It’s great to hear you guys had such a great time. Just out of curiousity, how old is your daughter?

Wonderful story.
I, too, was wondering how old the poster’s daughter was. What a great game to experience as your first!

This brought tears to my eyes. That was a special game, how awesome to share it with your daughter. The first person I called today when they clinched was my dad. We’ve been baseball fans together for years (albeit, different teams—he’s a Yankees/Braves guy) we’ve spent a lot of time watching ball games. Thanks for sharing. :)

I thought about calling my dad too but he's a Cards fan.
We have an unspoken 72-hour rule when it comes to the others team. I’ll talk to him tomorrow.

Very sweet...
I too was touched by this post, it made me think about my grandfather and my own kids, dressing up for the Cubs games here in Arlington. Thanks!

my daughter is 11.
I smiled as she watched the Cubs with me over the weekend as they wrapped up the central division. GO CUBS GO!
Thank you for your kind comments everyone. It is nice to see others have similar experiences at Wrigley. It is heartwarming. Now, onto the playoffs and then the series. THIS IS THE YEAR!
I was thinking of making a comeback until I pulled a muscle -- vacuuming.

Ah, OK.
My daughter is five, so I don’t think she fully grasped what was going on in the game. She LOVED singing the seventh-inning stretch, though. Unfortunately, Mom had to evac her to Starbuck’s around the seventh or eight inning, so she didn’t get to sing “Go Cubs Go.” Maybe next time.

I just posted a fanshot of pictures of my son's first game...
Very similar story except my son is only 3 (soon to be 4). I cried for joy as well, i think there was a lot of that going on.
