Playoff Tickets
I was hoping we could keep this thread running with people who signed up for the lottery on cubs.com. I submitted my info and they said that at some point between yesterday and today they would be sending out an e-mail if you have been selected. I just want to know when they start to go out so I can stop checking my e-mail and hoping by some miracle chance I was one of the few selected to purchase playoff tickets.
Good luck to everyone who registered, hopefully the ticket broker route isn't the way I have to go for this.

You don't have to wait for the email.
Once you get it, if you win, the tickets don’t go on sale right away — I think it’s tomorrow that the sale will actually happen. Good luck!

On a related note
Does anyone have a link to the playoff schedule, with any details on start-times, TV networks and the like? I realize the finer details maybe can’t be worked out until the teams are all known. But I thought I read something a few weeks ago about how three of the four division series will start on the same day — just wondering if that means one of them could feature a day game? I know there won’t be any day games in the LCSs or WS, but I recall the occasional day game in the first round.
My next sig line quote will also be from Lou Piniella, and the first word will be either "Look", or "Listen", followed by a comma.
No start times have yet been announced...
… and probably won’t be until all the teams and matchups have been set, and that may not be till next weekend.
It is POSSIBLE that one of the first two Division Series games MIGHT be a day game, but it’s too early to know that for sure.
"That's my opinion and if you don't like it, well, I have others." ~ Groucho Marx
Either that or the games will overlap
if all three of them are night games. I’ll just sit tight. Chances are the Cubs will face an East Coast team in the first round, which means the games shouldn’t be on too late.
It’s TBS for the NLDS, ALDS and ALCS. Fox has the NLCS and WS. Here’s the dates for the first round (no times yet):
Oct. 1 (on TBS): Game 1 of both NL series; game 1 of Al series between two division champions
Oct. 2 (on TBS): Game 2 of both NL series; game 1 of Al series between division champion and wild-card team
Oct. 3 (on TBS): Game 2 of both AL series
Oct. 4 (on TBS): Game 3 of both NL series
Oct. 5 (on TBS/TNT): Game 4 of both NL series; Game 3 of both AL series
Oct. 6 (on TBS): Game 4 of both AL series
Oct. 7 (on TBS): Game 5 of both NL series
Oct 8 (on TBS): Game 5 of both AL series
My next sig line quote will also be from Lou Piniella, and the first word will be either "Look", or "Listen", followed by a comma.
Note that there are three games scheduled on BOTH of the Cubs' home game dates.
Thus, there is at least a chance that one might be a day game.
The Cubs might also wind up with a day game on Oct. 5 on the road, if the series goes to four games.
"That's my opinion and if you don't like it, well, I have others." ~ Groucho Marx
I heard that TBS gets to choose who plays in prime time
Chances are that the Cubs will be playing night games (prime time).
The team with home-field advantage hosts Games 1, 2 and 5, so I suspect the Cubs to play Wednesday, Oct. 1 and Thursday, Oct. 2, at Wrigley during prime time against the NL Wild Card team (unless it’s the Brewers, Astros, or Marlins).
In the AL, I suspect the Rays will be getting the non-prime time.games.
"Every team will win 60 games, every team will lose 60 games, it's what the team does in the other 42 games that decides the season."
Depends who the other host teams are on those days.
If the Mets win the NL East they’ll also host games 1 and 2… they might get one of those games at night. Same thing if the Red Sox win the AL East.

Just so you know
I registered for Mets as well (thinking Cubs would play them in Game 3) and some people got a response at 9AM while others got a response at 7PM that day.
I'm going to be watching the playoffs

Just in case I got lucky with another team the cubs were playing. No luck with the Brewers or Dodgers so far but doubt the Brewers will be in it anyway.
So word from the Cubs yet.
yes
Even if you don’t win they send you an email telling you so. But I did not get one from the Cubs yet… and hope I don’t
I got a rejection email from the Brewers as well.

Won the Phillies lottery
I got an e-mail from the Phillies today notifying me that I won their NLDS lottery.
The e-mail had a link, registration number and PIN.
The link took me right to NLDS home game 2. (No option to buy game 1.)
There was no waiting room or delay time at all. Scored three outfield tickets right away.

Amazing
You can still buy Dodger tickets for the NLCS 5 rows off the field down the third base line. Insanity.
A lot of that is the price of those tickets.
Really pricey, even for the location.

$300?
Good luck sitting SRO for $300 in Wrigley during the NLCS — let alone 5 rows off the field.
I dunno. I can only hope to get in the park for that amount during the LCS (if we make it)
Tim
True enough.
Still, pricey.

So even if you had gotten tickets for that series, it wouldn’t have been against the Cubs.

Ticket Prices at the park
Would you say that the cost of tickets as going on stubhub are a good indicator of what one might pay outside of the ballpark?
Tim
stubhub
I find that tickets on stubhub are much more then what you can find on say craigslist or outside the park.
Agreed...

I have been looking on StubHub prices and they start at $260 or so for SRO tickets for the NLDS, and as you would expect go up from there.

NO
Stubhub is an offer price not a bid price.
Ebay is a bid price, not an offer price. If you follow a few auctions to the end you can get a gauge for what the value of tickets is.
Outside the park is a crap shoot. Typically, you can get better pricing than ebay, BUT it is a supply and demand thing so you never know. If you are coming into town, I would recommend ebay. If you live near the park and can live with not getting a seat and watch from a bar, that is the way to go. Otherwise, ebay.
For what it is worth, I got two bleacher tickets on ebay, coincidentally right next to my season tickets, for game 3 last year for $300 each.

Better online ticket source
You should check out NinjaTickets.com. They aggregate available tickets from StubHub and like 6 or 7 other online ticket sources all onto one page, and they list the tickets by market value of the ticket as well. In other words, if it pulls two tickets priced the same for a playoff game, it will list the ticket located in a better seat first because it deems that to be the “better” market value.

Going on last year's playoff tickets
Last year, I was lucky enough to get one ticket via the virtual waiting room.
Unfortunately, we never made it to the NLCS. I was shut out of the NLDS.

"Every team will win 60 games, every team will lose 60 games, it's what the team does in the other 42 games that decides the season."
In 1998 I scored 46 tickets for the one game playoff
Was in school in Champaign, IL and as soon as Neifi went yard, I sprinted down to the local ticketmaster with a HUGE envelope of ill-gotten cash we had in the apartment.
Ended up 6th in line (a lot faster than, sigh) and the guy behind the counter said he was just going to keep printing out tickets until the game was sold out, and THEN he’d sell them. Genius.
Max 8 per person … so I worked the line and bought the difference from each person in line. Ended up with 46, and a bunch of people pissed at me at the end of the line. Took 30 friends for free, sold 16 and made all my money back and bought a stereo system.
And THEY WON!
Tim
Ah...
so it’s people like you who prevent people like me from getting tickets to these games…

"People like me"
I was a 22 year old kid grateful to be able to take his friends to a Cubs playoff game. I cried when Trachsel struck out Barry Bonds looking to end the first inning as the Harry! Harry! Harry! blimp flew above the left (?) field bleachers.
If I had 16 more friends to take, I wouldn’t have made a dime. it was that, or throw the tickets away.
Just lamenting what a long way we’ve come from the days random fans had a decent shot at seats.
Tim
my point was
you didn’t have to make a dime – you could have turned around and sold them to other decent fans and just recouped what you spent on them and not had to make enough to extra to take 30 people for free and buy a stereo.

Seriously
No reason to feel guilty about that at all. Its a great story. Had you not been so lucky, Cubbieble 86 STILL would not have been able to go because 100,000 other people were trying to do the same thing. I remember running to my local Dominick’s with a ticketmaster only to be 40th in line and find I had no shot.
We are blessed and cursed with an enormous fan base for our favorite team. if you cheered for the Braves in their heyday, you could easily get playoff tickets for at or near face value. As a Cubs fan, you have to hope to get supremely lucky or pony up some serious dough.

You are absolutely spot on about playoff tix in other markets
I saw a few when I lived in Atlanta and did not break my wallet.

If you hustle, you will find bleacher tickets for first round games cheaper than that. I paid $300 each for a pair in the third row of left field for game three last year.
hey,
I’m only 22 as it is – just graduated and have a job and went last year (sat behind a pole to see them get swept) but you look on stub-hub and see SRO tickets at 2 grand already for the world series and it’s a little deflating. That’s all I’m saying.

NLDS Ticket Purchase Opportunity
Thank you for registering for a chance to purchase tickets for the Phillies postseason. Unfortunately your entry was not selected for our online NLDS sale.
Should NLCS and World Series tickets be made available, you are automatically eligible for those random drawings. Additionally, you remain eligible for any potential NLDS second chance sales. Winners for potential NLCS, World Series or NLDS second chance ticket sales will be notified via the e-mail address submitted on the phillies.com Postseason Ticket Opportunity form.
Thank you again for your participation.
I believe that's from the Phillies.

OT: Cubs in series could be worth $100M to city; Sox, $72M
From Chicago Business
A World Series featuring the Chicago Cubs could generate almost $100 million for Chicago’s economy, while the Chicago White Sox making the Fall Classic would pull in an estimated $72 million, according to a study by a local turnaround consultant.
"Every team will win 60 games, every team will lose 60 games, it's what the team does in the other 42 games that decides the season."

That's in the article
Should the teams play each other in the series, the impact could reach $154 million.
The economic impact of a subway series, though huge, would be less than the sum of the figures for each team.

I read about that group - well done
I had one scammer say he wanted to buy my living room furniture which I had advertised on a local website. He said he was in London (I live in Ireland, several hundred miles away) but his IP address was an Internet cafe in Nigeria. I just strung him along and said as soon as he gets to my town, he can come to my house and show me the money. I’m sure the scam would have involved bank account numbers and money transfers…..never got that far because I kept saying “come to my house”….
But it got me interested in the topic and I saw the website of the scam busters group – pretty funny (as well as civic minded) stuff!

Go Cubs
I remember back in 1989
Tickets went on sale either Saturday or Sunday morning for the playoffs and my buddy and I called Ticketmaster for like four hours and never got through in the morning. Back then you could order up to 6-8 tickets per call. We then had to go to that buddy’s dad’s wedding in the afternoon. So we are sitting out there at the reception feeling all sorry for ourselves and some guy we didn’t know said there was a backdoor Ticketmaster number and he said he got through 10 times in a 30 minute period. He gave us the #, we ran out to our parents car and grabbed the massive car phones and started dialing. We got through 15 times and ended up with tickets to every single game through the World Series. We missed the entire reception but since the groom was huge cubs fan he was all in favor. Sadly many of those tickets were never needed.
But it was a great ticket memory. I’m guessing the back door # has been closed

Try this
"Every team will win 60 games, every team will lose 60 games, it's what the team does in the other 42 games that decides the season."
Honestly,
my friend, it’s us that need to let it go.
The Astros were a so-so team this year, who hit a nice peak, and convinced their fans that they were better than they were. They did have some momentum going, we killed it — whatever the details — and whatever chance they had at the playoffs is gone. The casual fan is not going to understand the manuevering and posturing by the Astros ownership, and the Astros themselves are still dealing with delusions of grandeur, so it’s just not worth getting into.
Bottom line, they ain’t making the playoffs and nothing we say is going to stop them or their fans from blaming us and the big, bad commish, who wants to see a Cubs World Series for ratings sake.

Nothing for sale day of game. It’s either this, stub hub, Craig’s List, EBay, brokers, etc.
"Whoever wants to know the heart and mind of America had better learn baseball." - Jacque Barzun
By looking at Stubhub....
…..it appears I am going to have sell my house and become homeless. I’m already starting to resign myself to watching the whole thing on TV. That wouldn’t be so bad if Len and Bob were calling the game. How cool would it be if the station with broadcast rights, hired both teams to call each game and put them on alternate channels?
My boss tells me that he firmly believes, that a ticket to any sporting event in America can be bought a few minutes after it starts for near face value. His theory is that the scalpers always get too greedy and end up holding on to a few tickets when there is almost no demand left for them. I’m not sure I buy that, but I may end up flying to town and trying that out. Worst case, I end up spending the night on Sheffield taking in the sounds.
"I'm petrified of nipple chafing. Once it starts, it's a vicious circle." Andy Bernard
That's true during the regular season...
But last year scalpers still wanted big bucks even after the game started. Granted, not as much as before the game, but still too rich for my blood nonetheless.
"Whoever wants to know the heart and mind of America had better learn baseball." - Jacque Barzun
And it wasn't true even on Saturday...
… same thing from street scalpers after the game started, from what I heard from some friends who arrived late.
"That's my opinion and if you don't like it, well, I have others." ~ Groucho Marx
Stop believing your boss. Most professional scalpers have purchased a bunch of tickets and make their money back before the first pitch is thrown. They have no reason to feel charitable
and many will keep any extra tickets in their pockets rather than sell them at below face value. Many of them don’t even attend the game so they feel no pressure to get into the park when the game starts. You may get lucky with a fan with an extra ticket, but don’t bet the farm on it.

He's be wrong....
Premier events in the largest media markets never work out that way. They’re often sold in advance for a high premium, and the few that brokers and scalpers are left with just get eaten as a cost of doing business.
Maybe you get lucky and pay three or four times face after a couple of innings, but realistically they’ll all be gone within 45 minutes of gametime. This isn’t Colorado.

there wouldnt be a worse time to buy an NLDS ticket from a broker than right now....
…everyone is asking a massive premium now and I would even say there isnt even a true market price for any ticket yet as no one is buying yet. The market wont really develop until this weekend as we dont even know the opponent. (some teams fans travel well and some dont, that will have some impact on prices)
The prices will come down quite a bit for the NLDS as the date gets closer IMO as many will be saving thier cash in the hope for an NLCS or WS ticket.

Ticket Strategy
This may or may not work but I’d get a list of all the season ticket holders mailing addresses, knock on their doors and tell them you are the ticket inspector and need to inspect their tickets for unwelcome smudges and blemishes. Once you have them in hand run like the wind yelling: This theft has been brought to you by the 2008 Palin for VP campaign.
Disclaimer: this strategy will lead to a multiple year prison sentence

Hey, it's a new century!
by cowsarecool220 on Sep 22, 2008 3:10 PM CDT up reply actions
No.. you guys dont understand...
Tickets are often reserved for the day of game for various reasons… player allocation, team allocations, sponsors, etc. And, often, the day before the game, the team finds that those allocations were excessive, and the tickets are returned into the general pool. Thats why totally sold out games will still have tickets if you catch the box office at the right times.
So by saying “no” you really probably mean “I dont think so”, unless you’ve got some inside knowledge of the clubs ticketing policy.
by Champ Summers on Sep 22, 2008 3:17 PM CDT up reply actions
Here's the difference.
The Cubs’ ticket policy ends at the end of the regular season. The playoffs are a MLB event. THEY decide how the tickets are going to be sold and handled.
Trust me when I tell you that there will be ZERO tickets available at the box office for ANY postseason game. Camp out if you want, dance on the sidewalk, beg. But you will not get a ticket on the day of the game at the ticket windows.

I got to thinking (a new thing Im trying, where I think and all)… last year I was soo excited to get tickets for game 4 of the NLDS and home game 3 of the NLCS… I thought I was very, very lucky… and yet both sets of tickets went unused. I saw on ebay
Some ass clown broker has the passwords for sale for $250. His blurb said that they will be emailed between 5pm and 9pm Monday. I want tickets so bad!!! The prices thus far are double what they were last year. I hate brokers!!!
i thought
that the way the system works is that it has to match your mailing address and email. If it was only a password, than we could just post it here and everyone would be able to buy tix.
it's my understanding that.....
you are correct, the password needs to match your info, but I suppose not everyone know that, or maybe the broker is giving you and address to use, or he’s just gonna take your money and run………i’ll sell this password for $250: DFR23DHGHRF48383 it isn’t good for anything, but i’ll still sell it, that is if i was a jerk broker, which i’m not
Support Day Baseball
You are correct.
The broker did have five available and 4 people bought. From reading the Cubs website, even if you get seleted, there is a chance you don’t get tickets.
after checking ebay
if i win a chance to buy tickets i have an itch to sell them, anyone else got that temptation? i would love to go to a playoff game but what they are going for is tempting i need to do work on my car or possibly buy a new used one. eh i cant pass up on an oppurtunity to see the cubs in october
i had an interesting conversation with my friend before. What would the price have to be for world series tickets for you not to go and sell the tickets instead (non clinching game)?
If it is enough money to
pay off my 07 Jeep Liberty or my hubby’s 08 Dodge Avenger, I would have to sell. Of course that means a pair of tickets would have to be worth over 16k to someone. Maybe not that far fetched I suppose. I would feel like I sold everything I have hoped for my whole life by doing it. Not sure I could live with myself. Guess I don’t have to worry about it since it won’t likely be a situation I will be faced with.

Just a quick poll...
as it looks like I’m not the only one, but how many people have not received any kind of email at all. I signed up with just one email address and mailing address for the Cubs and Brewers. I didn’t get any sort of confirmation email and haven’t received any kind of rejection email for the Brewers or today’s Cubs batch.
I’m fairly sure I’m not an idiot so I registered correctly but is there a way to check if I did or a number to call? I wouldn’t want to re-register only to find out that that one is my second time and they disqualify both entries for cheating.
Same here...
I thought I registered correctly too, but haven’t heard anything yet either. I was thinking of re-registering also. One way I think you can get around the multiple entry disqualification thing by using another family member’s name. I may do that. The only phone number I see anywhere is 773-404-2827. Let us know if you find anything out.

Although I did register twice…thinking that registering today would count for NLCS, since the NLDS cutoff had passed. Who knows. And FWIW, I opted out of their ‘subscriptions’ to mlb.com and whatnot – could be a conspiracy for not wanting to sign up for spam (which I already get anyways).

seemed to get a great wristband number and helped Al get lots of extra bleachers ( I only needed a couple) and damn if he didn’t make it. Poor guy is really busy at work and is like " can I just give you the password and you do it ?"
He could not be less interested in the Cubs. I explained the CC info has to match the password but I could do it for him if he gives me the info.
Damn the guy is lucky.

I do want to add
that my fiancee and I both entered, and she used the same address I used, for obvious reasons. Hope that didn’t ruin my chances.
by Craig in South Bend on Sep 23, 2008 12:45 PM CDT up reply actions
I used
my wifes name/email and my name/email but our same address. I dont know the exact rules but as long as its a different name/email you should be fine
off the website
"Limit one entry per person. In the case of multiple entries for the same individual, all entries will be discarded. Entrants must use their own name.’
so from that I would think you can use the same address as long as its a different person with a different email address
I'm thinking all this "rules" are bunkus
"Every team will win 60 games, every team will lose 60 games, it's what the team does in the other 42 games that decides the season."
And that's what I thought I read
Still strange for not even seeing a reject email in my inbox or spam folder. My fiancee told me she didn’t have one either, although I wouldn’t be surprised to come home to a new fridge, washer and dryer, stove, countertop, etc. :)
It should be noted I would be horribly upset at this.

# of rows in bleacher section 302?
I was lucky enough to get tickets Game 2 Section 302 Row 8. Can’t find any thing that says how many rows there are in that section. What would be the 1st number in that row? Making the trip up from NC with a buddy for his 1st Cub game in Wrigley.
That's the section next to mine.
There are 11 rows in 302. You’ve got some nice seats. Enjoy!

World Series
Does anyone know how theyre gonna do the possible World Series Tickets? My thought is that they should not allow any more entries into the drawing after the NLCS drawing closes. This would prevent from everyone in the country entering the drawing and trying to make a quick buck. If they did a separate drawing for the WS then your odds of getting tickets would be close to 1/4,000,000
