Poll: Did you win playoff tickets?

Ok, this is a quick and easy poll.  Did you win the rights to buy NLDS tickets?  I'm curious the ratio of die-hard fans (which would include BCBers) that won. I personally did not. win

If you didn't sign up, don't vote.

In other news, I'm curious about how many times you signed up.  (answer in the comments) Seeing as how I have to come up with 75 words and all for this poll to go through, I might as well add that I signed up with 3 email addresses.  Do the brokers just have 1000 emails and then paid some junkee/flunkee to register 1000 times?  Who knows.  All I know is I didn't get tickeets and I'm bummed.  Not pissed, because I knew it was a longshot anyways, but I'm bummed.  Personally I like the VWR better because I knew how to scam the system.  So with that in mind, I probably didn't deserve tickets anyways.  That's GOTTA be 75, on with the poll!

I signed up twice

for myself and my wife, but I wonder if my chances would have increased with other phony emails. I thought about it for a second but when you had to enter your address upon registering, I figured that might be a way to eliminate scammers so I decided to go the legit route. Guess that didnt work either. Crossing my fingers that we get to the NLCS and that I win the chance to buy for those.

Bummed, but....

I just figure I’m going to get NLCS or WS tickets instead. :)

I'm curious how many people won with the intention of selling for big profit

I had this discussion with my daughter, who is loyal, loyal, loyal as any of us.

If we had one pair of World Series tickets, would you want to go to the game knowing that you’re holding 1000s of dollars of profit in your hand.

Her response, without hesitation, “Are you kidding me? Take me out to the game, baby!”

There's no way I would sell my WS tickets for any amount of money.

They are, literally, priceless.

Indeed

If I find a chance to take my dad to a WS game, I’d pay four figures without hesitation.

With my luck, I'd have tickets to WS Game 5

and the Cubs would sweep in 4.

If I could be so lucky!

Don't forget to enter the White Sox lottery

You never know, it could double your chances for a Cubs WS ticket.

My next sig line quote will also be from Lou Piniella, and the first word will be either "Look", or "Listen", followed by a comma.

I CONFESS

I would not sell MY ticket but at the insane prices being mentioned I would almost certainly sell my 2nd ticket to one or more
games. I am not a rich corporate season ticket holder and it would be hard to pass up $3500 or more for a ticket that I honestly don’t owe to anyone else.

I'm not a rich season ticket holder, either

Just a poor one. On a limited income. BUT: I have a lot of friends who buy the tix I don’t use (nearly all the games, as I no longer live in Chgo) & so allow me to keep my season tix. SO: Do I sell the post-season (specifically WS) tix above face value? NO! Do I sell ’em on line (StubHub)? NO – they go to the people who help me go to Opening Day each year….since 1988.

Price is no object -

Think of the memories, the tickets put into a glass frame with a program from the WS hanging in your Den… I wish…

No way in hell...

I would ever purchase tickets for that much money. Hell no.

Are they priceless? yes, but there’s no way I would give a scalper that much power. It’s rotten that people want to scalp these tickets, and I’m not going to justify their existence by overpaying for them.

That and my wife would kill me.

I already posted an identical poll on the front page.

You can vote in both if you want, I suppose.

Sorry - didn't see it

the front-page polls seem to be buried these days.

by MikeJ on Sep 23, 2008 9:51 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

No worries.

Maybe I should move the poll higher. I could take a poll for that… oh, wait.

no need for a poll!

just look at how many people voted on the 2 different polls – since you put yours up there’s been 25 votes, mine has 44 in less time because of the more prominent position. before I put it up, I looked at the fanshots and fanposts to see if it was already there, which it wasn’t. i think that’s a clear vote “yes” to move it up!

by MikeJ on Sep 23, 2008 10:19 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I think you're right.

I’ll move it. Thanks!

… I noticed they were kind of buried, maybe this will get more people to use them.

i won!

signed up once or twice. my dad signed up also for himself and my mom but they didnt win.

by nolacubbiegirl on Sep 23, 2008 10:09 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I signed up once. No ticket. It would take a lot of money to get me to sell mine if I won them. Something like $10,000. And even then I’d have to think about it. For a couple of grand? No way I’d sell them. I don’t know that I’d pay a couple of grand to get some, but if I have them in my hands, I’m keeping them.

by Spartan1979 on Sep 23, 2008 10:49 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I signed up 6 times...

Through my parents, two friends and my wife… Though i promised to buy the ticket of the person going with me.

NO TICKET for me.

Awesome scene!

One of my favourite actors and not because he too is an alumni of Maine Township High School South.

That's Maine EAST....

…at the time he graduated (2 years before my older sister, in 1961) it was actually just Maine Twp. West opened in 1963 (my older brother graduated from West in 1964, just missed Hilary Rodham, she grad’d from South which opened in 1964). I graduated from East in 1968 – approx 2 yrs before North opened.

Been out of HS too long to know which schools are still open (& under what names), but Potter & Dempster in PR will ALWAYS be East to me!

by Section 527 on Sep 23, 2008 9:43 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Think you're right

I saw his name in our alumni book but thought it was South. I’m a bit too young to challenge those graduation years, though I know Hillary ended up graduating from South after it opened in ‘64. Thought she was originally from East though. Anyway, Dempster & Potter I believe is East. Being from South that’s Dee, Devon and Talcott. North has been closed for over 20 years and I’m sure East, West & South are still going strong.

I won

I signed up myself and had my two brothers, sister, mom, dad and sister-in-law sign up on their own. My sister was the one who got picked. I am hoping she will get to go to the game with me but she is due in two days.

I didn't win

I entered twice, I also didn’t win in the Dodgers or the Mets or the Phillies lotteries…that I entered twice each…Congratulations to all who won!

I won!

Dont know if it mattered or not but I signed up with my same email address probably 10-15 times. After seeing what playoff tickets are going for on sites like stubhub & with my ridiculous student loan bills it makes me question whether I should sell them….What am I thinking, I can dodge Iowa Student Loan for another month or so. No way I can pass up this oppertunity

Any thoughts here on a BCB type metting place pre-game?

I’m going to be in town for business, and don’t want to watch the game from my hotel room in the Loop. Any thoughts on a BCB get-together? What about places to watch a game in the city, preferably close to Addison/Clark or close to a CTA stop.

Sox

If I sign up on with for the Sox tickets (double my WS chances possibly) will I be disqualified from the Cubs? I’d be pissed if I get Sox tickets and as a result am unable to get Cubs tickets for the remainder of the playoffs

by delorean80 on Sep 23, 2008 2:26 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'm thinking there are no rules

Too many stories about people signing up multiple times and getting in, buying passwords from ebay and getting tickets (what happened to cross-checking registered names with credit cards and photo IDs at Will Call?).

I’m taking my chances and signing up as much as I can. If they bump me, it gets me the same result I got playing by their rules—NO TICKETS!

You can sign up for every team that has a postseason chance.

One per team. So signing up with the Sox won’t disqualify you for future Cubs tix.

Shouldn't be an issue

Think of the logistics to manage that across teams. Besides if you do get Sox tickets, it won’t matter because they’re going to collapse. The Twinkies are in their heads (and Torii Hunter isn’t even there any more).
