Astros still complaining about the games at Miller Park
I was just watching ESPN's Outside the Lines and the Astros just won't let it go. Frankly, I'm getting tired of the Astros and all this talk about how much Bud Selig screwed them. I thought they screwed themselves by not having a better alternative plan in place sooner. They need to just accept that they really are not that good of a team and should not have made the playoffs. Good teams find a way to win no matter where they play. Having a -34 run differential doesn't help their case either. I read a post from another blog site that summed everything up involving this incident very well.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of SB Nation or Al Yellon, managing editor (unless it's a FanPost posted by Al). FanPost opinions are valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable baseball fans.

…that blog entry perfectly sums up the situation and, quite frankly, my feelings about it. And let me just say again that I find it unfathomable that the ‘Stros have lost so much perspective that they’re still talking about this so long after the games were played.

The way they're playing . . . .
hasn’t given Astros fans anything else to talk about…

Exactly
Even if the hurricane/Milwaukee games put a crimp in their style, it’s pure garbage to say it derailed the rest of your season. The teams ahead of them have given them plenty of chance to climb into the WC. And they haven’t. And they smell.

They need to look right at there owner and start there when..
it comes to placing blame. He refused to believe that the hurricane was going to be as bad as it was and demanded those games be played at home. He did nothing to help find a more traditional neutral site (Atlanta, Wash, etc) and just said that they have to be made up at the end of the season. MLB was in no way shape or form going to have them play a series at the end of the season and cut into the playoffs, and he should have known that. Now that they are playing horrible its easy to put the blame on Selig rather than just look at the fact that they could have made it a nonissue if they would have been playing better baseball. Its a cop out to blame selig

+1
I can’t believe that they’re 1) still whining about this and 2) completely absolving their owner of any blame.

When they got only one hit
in two games, that wasn’t because of the location of the games. It was because they are whiners and quitters, looking for excuses instead of sucking it up an playing ball.

Is Bud Selig to blame
for the Astros first half of the season, too? Cos that seems to go overlooked.

Here is what offends me the most
They printed up shirts saying, “Bud killed us.”
Hello, there are people who literally got swept into the sea. There are Galveston residents now taking up residence in the freaking Gulf of Mexico and these overpaid, whiny, scumbag players use the word “killed”?
Go f—- yourself, Astros. And when you’re done, take some Viagra and do it again.

The way the players have reacted to this proves
they are losers. What happened in Florida. Was that because of Bud too? Did they suck the first half because of Bud? I wouldn’t be surprised if the T shirts were Latroy Hawkins idea. The biggest baby of them all. I am done thinking or talking about these babies.
by Rick B on Sep 23, 2008 4:26 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Who else but Latroy?
LaTroy Hawkins ordered and paid for the initial batch of 50 shirts, which were hanging in the locker of every player, coach and even manager Cecil Cooper when they arrived at Dolphin Stadium for the series finale against the Florida Marlins.
"Enough said," Hawkins, who had 60 shirts made, said.
My next sig line quote will also be from Lou Piniella, and the first word will be either "Look", or "Listen", followed by a comma.

Oh man.
I’ll admit, at certain times during the ’05 season, I felt bad for Latroy. But this just reinforces his image as a complete and utter tool. Unbelievable.

It starts at the top...
…and the owner, GM and manager have allowed this to develop to what it is today. The players are merely following their lead.

i think we ought to let it go too
there’ve been tons of “astros/astros fans are still whining” posts and frankly i’m getting tired of it from both ends.

I think that's the point of this post.
That we cannot believe that the Astros and ESPN are still whining about this.
But as I always say: Whiners never win. Just look at the Brewers and Astros.

As I've said before: Enough already!
McLane really has his PR people on this and ESPN is eating from his hand, as a result. That a blogger can come with a more coherent and complete analysis of the schedule problems the Astros’ proposed solution entails says more about the shallowness of the analysis offered by the ESPN sport pundits than anything else I can think of. And remember, the pundits get paid to say those stupid things on radio and TV; the blogger offered a much better analysis for free.

Remember,
a politician told us we are a ‘nation of whiners.’ But he really just meant the Houston Astros.

The correct answer
is Bud and McClane. Bud had absolutely no leadership and McClane would not “just shut up”.
Sweet Lou for Mayor in '11.
by blackhawk24 on Sep 24, 2008 6:03 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
You're absolutely correct.
But as that wasn’t a poll option, I went with McClane because – Bud Selig being an ineffectual hand-wringer in a crisis? IT’S HIS MOVE!!
Personally, I think Cooper tried to turn the ‘injustice’ into a rallying point for his team. It very well could be that the manager recommended going with the neutral site (Atlanta?) plan before Ike hit, since his team was red hot – only to be overruled by the owner who didn’t want to refund 3 sellouts.
And now that things are going south, Cooper and McClane allowing the team to ‘pump up’ the resentment has the benefit of getting the Astros fans more focused on “Bud screwed us out of the playoffs” instead of “If we only didn’t play so lousy for four months, we wouldn’t have needed to finish 25-5 to squeeze into the wild card spot”.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that LaTroy is behind this. The man is a gutless jerk who blamed everyone but himself for his failures.
