New Book

What's up with the book This Is The Year!  Already, before we even get to a playoff game!  Just another way to make Cub fans look like idiots if they don't make it - this is ridiculous!  Put the book out AFTER we win the world series, not before.  I think Lou is right, everyone wants to world series why is there so much pressure on the cubs - I know the 100 year thing, but not the same players here, get the book off the shelves and lets play ball and enjoy this run and hope it lasts longer than last year

That's the way the mass media typically react.

Lou is right, and I think the players understand very well what’s at stake here. That said, I think Lou does a good job of keeping the pressure off.

Wait

Wait until we win it all. Half of Barnes and Noble will be Cubs books.

There’s also almost an industry based on the Cubs not winning for 100 years.

The Tribune Actually Is Printing It

That’s sad and shouldn’t be done.

I'm neither for, nor against it...

but I think it’s mostly a book form of Tribune articles throughout the season. Stuff like the “Out Loud” section usually on the back of the sports page and a whole bunch of pictures from throughout the season.

They’re not really jumping the gun as I’m sure they’ll release another one if the Cubs win either of the whole season or just the playoffs, or both in addition to a DVD recap, t-shirt, hat, sweatshirt, car flag, baby onesie, bikini, shot glass, license plate cover, blanket, player profile book, collectible baseball cards of each player, watch, pens, commemorative framed and matted picture of the celebration on the mound, and any other product you could think of.

Souveniers

I’m almost afraid to find out what they’ll come up with.

It's capitalism, pure and simple.

I saw the book in a Jewel/Osco the other night, flipped through it and put it back. It’s a pure cash grab and really only useful to bandwagon jumpers or souvenir collectors. I have no strong feelings for or against the book. I expect to see the Trib Co. and everyone else under the sun going all out to make money off the Cubs success. That’s the American way, after all.
