More important that Harden has a good start and shows that he has control.

Severed the thumb, index finger and middle finger on his throwing hand (I think?) and the doctors reattached them. 12 months later, he’s playing pro ball.

Experience certainly plays a role. Like I said, I’ll leave it up to Lou. Hoff gets my vote at the moment, though.

Ward has hit

just as much as Hoffpauer. And walks are highly underrated. We need players to GET ON BASE. You can’t score lots of runs without lots of baserunners.

by Madison Cub Fan on Sep 25, 2008 7:07 PM CDT up reply actions

he doesn't do that either.

his job is to have a good at bat, try to put the ball in play (or out of the park) — usually in a highly clutch situation.

I trust Ward to do that over Hoff. It’s not logical. The sample size is too low to be effective. It’s gut feeling. YMMV.

One other factor...

Ward is a much better OF than Hoff. (I know that isn’t exactly a compiment.) If DeRo and Cedeño are hurting, and Dome’s bat remains in Japan, that may become a factor. Also, if you carry both, you won’t have Pie to PR for DeRo, Soto, or Edmonds.

Ward is a proven, veteran hitter.

He has hit many balls hard this year. Most of them found a glove. When you have as few at bats as Ward has had this year, a couple of those hard hit balls fall in and he’s one of the leading pinch hitters in the league.

Long days and pleasant nights.

Listening through the radio static, did I hear that Hoffpauir has 2 rbi, including a homer tonight? Goodness.
