The Brewers Can't be Happy

Anticipate some grumbling from north of the border with regard to Piniella's handling of the game at Shea.  It's one thing to make virtually no offensive changes, but to put the ball in the hands of Howry and Hart at the end has to have the Brewers and their fans seeing red.

With the plane heading to Milwaukee, Lou better check his bed for snakes.

I'm not saying his handling of the situation was wrong, but I suspect he will be getting some grief from the Milwaukee faithful for not doing much to close out a victory against the Mets.

Dude he did nothing wrong...

heck, I love that Howry may be playing himself out of any postseason playing time. As for how he managed the game, MIL can eat one if they have a problem with it. Lou has marched out starters each game since they clinched. Yesterday, we watched DeRosa and Cedeno go down (hopefully temporarily) but he is going to play safe because we have playoff games to win.

Who cares what the Brewers think, they are going to lose this weekend anyway…

………..against the Cardinals.

Again, I’m not saying Lou was wrong, but if the shoe was on the other foot……..????

That is to be expected the day after a clinch....

as for these games, I think he has done everything to win. Let’s not forget that he has to keep his players warm too. He has played it right and well…MIL fans can….well….whatever.

Part of the issue here, I think...

… is the weather. There’s no way Lou was going to run his regulars out there in that rainstorm.

Exactly

Watching this game, knowing how hard it was raining, I was delighted with both Lou and the guys who played tonight. I would have been furious if one of the big guys went in and got hurt in the storm. Lou’s first responsibility is to the Cubs, every other team comes after that. I like the idea of playing to win, but seriously, playing Aramis, D-Lee or Soriano tonight would have been risking too much in the rain.

As for the Brewers, I expect Lou will trot out a lineup much like tonight’s at least once, possibly twice, during the Brewer’s series. They should have no reason to complain.

by helen on Sep 25, 2008 9:59 PM CDT up reply actions

Agreed.

The weather had to be a factor for the position players, but Lou could have done a better job playing to win by trotting legit arms to the mound.

Howry got the win last night

Playing him tonight is simply playing a guy who was used all year, who seemed to be pitching a bit better and did okay against the Mets last night. Hart has been used a good deal this month, including against the Brewers, iirc. Complaints by other teams don’t hold much water (though maybe a little, I’ll concede). Simply put, if those teams had won three more games during the previous five and a half months, this wouldn’t even be an issue.

by helen on Sep 25, 2008 10:02 PM CDT up reply actions

Right.

And would you have trotted Marmol or Wood — both of whom threw last night — out there in the rain? I wouldn’t.

Marmol...........

………..last pitched on Monday.

Point taken with the weather, but he’s clearly well-rested.

The Brewer's have no excuse to be mad at us.....

I’m not the least bit upset with the loss tonight.

If one of our prime starters got injured in these last couple games Lou would get a lot of flack for it.

What the Milwaukee faithful think of him is probably the LEAST of Lou’s concerns, too.

The Brewers...

…should be happy the Cubs split when they already clinched last week. Milwaukee has no one to pissed out but themselves, especially when they got swept 4 games against Philly recently.

My thoughts

Lou had every right to play no regulars tonight. Weather was crappy, why should they take a chance to injure themselves.

With pitching, Lou is putting his roster together. He needs to see who can pitch well. In essence the worst pitchers on our staff are the ones who need to try the hardest to vie for a playoff spot.

Brewers can complain all they want they probably will get the AAA cubs at least once as well.

As for the Mets, they shouldn’t have been tied in the 9th tonight anyways.

If the brewers knew how to close out a ballgame they wouldnt have to worry so much

about what we do to help them even make the playoffs, let them b**tch all they want, there going to be irrelevant for quite some time after the next few weeks, if they even make it

Can I pick "Who gives a shit"?

If they want to play in October, they have to beat the best team in the national league, or perhaps, in all of baseball. Most residents from Milwaukee don’t even think that’s the Cubs, so technically they should have no problem playing against them.

God, I’m getting really tired of people bitching about the cards they’re dealt. Deal with it, you pansies.

by NittanyCub on Sep 26, 2008 4:32 AM CDT reply actions

Brewers should think how they blew the game here on the 18th

in the bottom of the 9th before bitching about someone else.

This is what pisses me off about the last couple weeks of the season. There’s always some whiner out ther talking about how games are so important. So these are more important than the ones 100 days ago? They count the same…dumb-asses.

If the Brewers chose to pull their collective heads out of their asses July 28-31, when in the span of about 78 hours the Cubs gained 4 games in the standings, they would not be in this pickle now.

Maybe not getting swept at HOME by the METS a few weeks ago, how about splitting 4 at HOME against THE PADRES?!

Too fucking bad. Maybe if Milw wasn’t something like 3-13 at one point this month they wouldn’t be struggling to make it, Yost would not have been fired and CC isn’t pitching back-to-back-to-back games all on 3 days rest.

I didn't vote

because you left off the “who cares” option. I think most Brewer fans would tell you that they would have done it the same way if they were in the Cubs position. If they were honest about it anyway. Now some of them will be complaining all weekend when any regular player plays. Too bad, try winning the most games. Everybody wants to blame someone else for their shortcomings.

by LT on Sep 26, 2008 6:45 AM CDT reply actions

According to Lou

most of the regulars will play most of the weekend. They have Monday and Tuesday off, and you don’t want your guys getting rusty. I hope the Cubs can at least take 2 of 3 this weekend and end the Brewers season. I’d rather they play the Mets than the Dodgers in the first round.

CUBS not Blameable

After clinching their division they go on the road against a team that is fighting for their playoff lives – and we split the series. Regardless of who played and how much – or excruciating analysis of pitch-by-pitch details – no one can complain about the CUBS net results in New York.

a win is a win.

Cubs have already lost DeRosa and Cedeno

for a few games, what would Brewer fans like — to have multiple cubs starters get injured so that we are a weaker team playing against the brewers in the playoffs? It is the most ridiculous argument
