That doesn't
make much sense. I thought there were rules about how late night games could go in Chicago, or is that only on friday and saturday nights?

The rules don't apply to postseason games.
8:30 CT is still too late. TBS should have backed up the entire Thursday schedule by 30 minutes. 8:00 is late, but not ridiculous.

Every year these announcement irritate me
This is infuriating. I live on the east coast, therefor I will be up until 1am minimum on Thursday night and probably close to 2am on Saturday…oh, make that Sunday morning.
Also, for those of us who have 10 year old boys this is major problem.

I don't understand the Thursday schedule at all.
8:30 pm CHICAGO time to start? That’s ludicrous. It’ll end after 11, most likely after 11:30. Wonderful for kids.

With games being held in Tampa, Philly, and Chicago on Thursday
It makes sense that Chicago would get the latest start since, it’s the west-most city of the three…. and they can’t play the games at the same time, thanks to the fan uproar back in the late 90s. NBC & ESPN were showing games from different DS’s at the same time back then, and the fans were calling for Selig’s head, for not being able to watch every single postseason game.

However...
… they could have started all three of those games an hour earlier … 12:30, 4:00 and 7:30, instead of 1:30, 5:00 and 8:30 central time. That still would get the Philly game into the evening hours in EDT.

How Crazy Is This Idea?
Is it feasible for TBS and TNT to show different division series games simultaneously? TBS and TNT were both owned by Turner Broadcasting the last time I checked. The NBA season hasn’t started yet to interfere with TNT’s schedule. Is there something in the MLB contract that prohibits playoff games from being aired on TNT? That could cut down on some of these strange start times.
Does it come back to having two division series games on simultaneously cuts down on the overall viewership? The theory being that if games are all on different times, the fans will watch all the games. If you have games on simultaneously on different Turner properties, fans will only be able to watch one of the games at a time.

Yeah, TBS doesn't want the audience split between two channels.
The only way you’ll see anything on TNT is if one of the games runs long and another one starts before it’s over.

they do not care about the kids. This is about advertising money and the networks want to wait to put the game on until the Californians get home from work. Little do they know that they quit around 4pm west coast time which means the game should start by 6pm central. How frustrating.

Beer Sales at Wrigley / Rooftops
With the late start time for Thursday’s game, any idea if beer sales would be cut-off prior to the seventh inning? I was at a rain delayed game a few years back, and I recall that they cut sales off at 9pm that game.

Gives me a reason to stay up...
I’ll have a lot of homework due to missing school on Wednesday, because I’m being irresponsible and going to the game. So hell, now I have a reason to stay up and finish that homework, eh? Not bad for me.
I do agree, however, that it is unfair to those who have to work early the next day and those kids who don’t have the luxury of staying up to watch the conclusion of the game. It’s a bit ridiculous to start a game at 8:30 LOCAL, I must admit.

What happens if the Mil/Phi game goes into extra innings or weather delayed and is still going on when the Cubs game starts? Is there an alternative station it’d be on until the previous game is over?

Stop whining about the game times
It could be worse. I’m in the Netherlands until Thanksgiving. That’s 7hrs ahead of Central Time. Here’s my Cubs NLDS schedule.
Game 1: Wed night / Thurs morning, 12:30 a.m. LAD @ CHI
Game 2: Friday morning, 3:30 a.m. LAD @ CHI
Game 3: Sunday morning, 4:00 a.m. CHI @ LAD
And you’re darn right I’ll be at least listening to them all via Gameday Audio. Looking for ways to watch it live online, but I can’t through subscription via MLB TV. Sleep schedule is gonna be NUTS. Maybe I’ll pull a George Costanza and sleep under my desk at work.

Game 2
The Game 2 time makes no sense whatsoever. I’m in the eastern time zone. Last year’s playoff times made no sense and that includes the NLCS. I know it had 2 west coast teams but it still had the lowest ratings ever. Why? 10:00 start times.
Baseball is abandoning the east coast for Game 2. No kids or people who have to be at work by 9:00 can watch that game. I’d understand it if baseball had no choice, but they certainly did on Thursday. Only 3 games, start them at 1:00, 4:30 and 8:00. This game is not in LA, it’s in Chicago! I just don’t get the argument that later start times attract more viewers. I hear it a lot but don’t see it, particularly with last year’s NLCS.

VP debate, 8 pm central time on Thursday night
And once you know the debates last for 90 minutes, it makes a bit more sense that our game starts 30 minutes after the debate begins. I’d be watching Palin getting ripped a new one, but I think the Cubs take priority.

I don't understand all the whinning
For years now the playoffs have had late and early starting times depending on where you live. That’s the way it’s been and will always be. You can’t please all the people all the time. Let’s just be happy that we at least have a reason to watch. Being tired at work a few times or having to watch gameday from work (I willl on Wednesday) a few times is still better than not watching because the Cubs are not in it.
