Playoff Ticket Draw: No VWR
Cubs.com has the scoop on playoff tickets for the first two rounds. In order to be fair, they are having a drawing with everyone's name and address registered online. Presumably, proof of address will be needed to collect the tickets, eliminating spoofers and scalpers.
This is not good news for me. I was pretty good at working the Virtual Waiting Room last year and scored four (useless) tickets to the (non-existent) NLCS at Wrigley Field. Oh, that's the other thing. Fans will be limited to TWO tickets each in the drawing.

damn damn damn
I had always done well in the VWR for postseason and regular season tix. I suppose this has the potential to make things more fair. But seriously, two tickets? That’s going to be rough. Has anyone heard anything about the series that they play after the NLCS? (not that I’m superstitious or anything, just a little stitious)

but on the plus side
I do have some awesome seats to the iCubs playoffs tomorrow night. First row behind the dugouts on the first base side. I paid a whole $12 each for them and no VWR.

I'm
not very happy either. I have also fared very well in the VWR in the past. Last year, I got two tickets for games 1 and 2 at home of the NLDS with relative ease and most importantly at face value. Now it’s a crapshoot for only two tickets for one game. Not good…

VWR
was my friend. I always seemed to get through. The hope for playoff tickets for games is going to be much harder. Plus, I would rather have NLCS but the way I read it you have to register for all or none.

Not exactly
Applicants who are selected for the opportunity to purchase NLDS tickets will still be eligible for [the second, NLCS drawing] and need not re-enter. Entrants not selected in the NLDS drawing will still be eligible for the NLCS drawing.

Can 2 names enter from the same address?
My roommate and I both want to enter but are concerned about having the same address since it says “any attempt to cheat will result in disqualification.”
by fanofthegame on Sep 3, 2008 5:25 PM CDT 0 recs
Should be OK
Limit one entry per person. In the case of multiple entries for the same individual, all entries will be discarded.
The “one entry” limit seems to be per individual, not one per address.
My next sig line quote will also be from Lou Piniella, and the first word will be either "Look", or "Listen", followed by a comma.

The one problem with that is the person of record has to pick up the tickets
using their credit card and their photo ID.
I registered my girlfriend, but she would have to fly up from Florida to retrieve the tickets.
We fly up often to visit my daughter and go to Cub games, but we would have to draw straws to see which two get to go.

Not Sure About That
I can’t remember if that’s how they did it last year or not (I have season tickets), but there is nothing in the offer itself that says the tickets must be picked up. IIRC, didn’t they strongly suggest email tickets?

Can't go by last year
because they didn’t use this system. The page doesn’t say anything about delivery of tickets (by email or regular mail), only this:
Name and address used for entry must match name and address used at time of purchase and must also match name and address presented for pickup of tickets. A valid photo ID and a credit card matching the one used to purchase the tickets will each be required to pick up tickets.
However, it may be that when the draw is completed and the “winners” are given the chance to buy their two tickets, they get an option to print tickets at home.

If print at home is not an option
than everyone who registers their grandmothers, children and neighbors will be out of luck. This could cause mass confusion with so many registrations and yet none will want tickets if they actually have to pick up in person. I would, but my kids and neighbors won’t drive to Chicago for me!

Plus, the friends and family I have in the area are going to want to register for themselves anyway.

Luckily most of my friends
HATE baseball but they would register. I can limit it to the ones in Chicago
Keep in mind I already HAVE season tickets but I think entering is worth a shot anyway. Would probably let my nephew have them so he won’t want to go with me
since I might want to scalp my extra for at least one game per series.

I am hoping it is a scare tactic and not really true
It is hard to imagine that they would make all these people go to will call on the day of the game.
Normally I hate print at home and its $3 charge, but I will be praying for it this time.

I'm hoping it's a scare tactic too
I live in Tucson and signed up anyway hoping I can get the tickets for my brother and nephew’s. If the Cubs make it to the WS, then it’s not a problem because I will fly in for that.

I don't mind it so much...
But then again, I never had much luck with the VWR… I mean maybe the increased number of people involved will lessen my odds, but maybe I’ll get lucky too!

Phillies
For anyone considering a possible road trip, the Phillies also have their playoff lottery page up now.
by 08Cubs on Sep 3, 2008 9:05 PM CDT 0 recs
What this does...
… is basically assure you that if you get picked in the email lottery, you will get tickets. Thus, it’s like the VWR, which is sort of a lottery, only you don’t have to sit there getting frustrated for hours.
My guess is they’ll have around 5,000 tickets per game available.

the amount of tickets decrease as the team advances. That MLB and the networks keep more as it progresses.

I disagree (slightly)
I felt like my chances were improved when I had some involvement (2 computers – 40 browser windows opened on each one).

Definitely
And they probably had complaints from less ‘net savvy fans who heard about us 40 browser window types. Wouldn’t be possible to do a draw for the regular season tix with 81 games, but with 3 or 4 games and only a few thousand tickets per game they can manage it.

Ugh.
I get where they are coming from, but for someone who does well at the VWR (as long as I’m on my work computer). I don’t like this. If the ticket limit was 4 that would change my opinion.

Wow. If a game is not played (get game 5 and the series only goes 4)
you have to return all your tickets to get a refund. Last year, they just credited my card for the tickets and I got to keep them as a souvenir. Weird. Wonder why they’re doing it this way.
Chicago Cubs Non-Played Game Postseason Ticket Return Policy: Individual ticket holders must send the entire ticket along with their name, address, and daytime phone number to:

Makes it riskier for scalpers or speculators who sell the tickets?
I had a ticket for the 2005 game 5 ALDS, which was not played since the Sox swept. They just refunded my credit card. Minus the “convenience charges”, of course.

That was a headache and a half last year
I had 2nd row dugout box right behind home plate. It hurt so bad to sit in the airport and watch them get swept and not get to use those seats, then send them back and wait for my money.

Two things with this....
1) There will still be a VWR ……… however, it will only be filled with the lottery winners
2) If you sign up several people and someone else gets selected, do you have to use their credit card & their personal address, etc, to actually pay for the tickets (hence, I register my neighbor, he gets selected, can I still get the tickets)?
anyone? anyone? anyone?

Your neighbor would have to pay for the tickets.
Now, whether he’d have to go with you and pick them up, I have no idea.
