Cubs Post Season Rally
As many of you know, there was a post season rally held in Daily Plaza today at noon. I attended the rally and wanted to share a few pictures with everyone.
There was a giant flat-screen TV. that played Cubs season highlights before the rally started. Wayne Messmer sang the national anthem and then handed the mic over to Jim Belushi, who belted out an awesome version of "Sweet Home Chicago". Ernie Banks, Billy Williams and Ron Santo all very briefly spoke to the crowd. In fact, Ron's only words were, "THIS IS THE YEAR"!
Derrek Lee, Sean Marshall and Micha Hoffpauir also made an appearance.
The mayor was boo'd BUT did don a Cubs hat and the governor was his usual annoying self, managing a few cheers whenever he would mention the Cubs winning it all.
They played "Someday we'll go all the way", Eddie Vedder’s Cubs song which seems to have a strong tear reflex reaction for me. I was choking em back the entire song thinking of what could be…
All in all it was an awesome chance to gather with other Cubs fans and celebrate the accomplishments of this Cubs team and all that lies ahead.
Ok Boys, 100 years is long enough! Let's bring it home....

Jim Belushi signing “Sweet Home Chicago” at the Cubs rally 9/30/08
Jody Davis was born on Monday, November 12, 1956, in Gainesville, Georgia. Davis was 24 years old when he broke into the big leagues on April 21, 1981, with the Chicago Cubs.
All pics denied.
Nice job singing, though, wayne. There’s a fanshot of the one pic I took.
The Chicago Cubs: 2008 Central Division Champions
i never understand the point of these
Celebrating for just getting to the playoffs is dumb. Let’s celebrate a world series instead. Also I’m sick of Jim Belushi being designated Chicago sports fan number 1.
It is a fun way to spend a lunch break
But yes, ultimately pointless.
I think they are official MLB events, and every team gets one. I wonder if they will have one for either the White Sox or Twins tomorrow on short notice?

Not to rip on Jim Belushi...Ok to rip on Jim Belushi
I will be an adult about it…He butchered Crane Kenneys name, Not to mention he looked absolutely clueless up there. Much as a I hate to say it as awkward Gov. Rod was up there at least he knew what he was talking about and actually seemed like a he gave a damn he was there. I sorta felt bad for Marshall and Hoffpauir because it seemed like the crowed was expecting Kerry Wood and Mark Derosa….Whatever save the celebrations for Band Shell in Grant Park in November
