Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Let's see some Cub swagger

Al,

Post the magic number.  We, as Cub Nation, need to lose our ingrained fear of impending heartbreak.  I know and understand the paranoid superstition that makes one think that if we post the magic number we are just tempting fate.  Do away with that old way of thinking.

The 2008 Cubs are the best damned team in the National League.  They are going to win the division and the pennant because they are the best and they deserve the championship!  We are not going to sneak in and steal it.  We will walk right through the front door and take it like the championship calibar team that we are!

Stop hiding behind superstition and post the number so that we can celebrate while we count down to victory!  Have some confidence.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of SB Nation or Al Yellon, managing editor (unless it's a FanPost posted by Al). FanPost opinions are valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable baseball fans.

We win, the number goes up

It just doesn’t seem right to post it during such a losing streak.

There is no place like Nebraska - Go Huskers!

Too late....it's up.

As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.

I decided to put it up...

… because of the poll (about 60% said put it up) and, well, it’s down to 18. Felt right.

I like it highly visible on the home page

because it reminds the Evil BCBers who drop by exactly what’s up. Cubs don’t play, magic number goes down, thanks Padres…

Cute idea to put pick a Cub who wore that number

Should 17 be Fontenot or Grace?

Hopefully 17 will just be a temporary number tonight cubs win but Brewers lose to make it 16 which is of coufse Jose Hernandez. (J/k)

after looking..

here ,which is probably where Al looked, I think I would have gone with good ol’ Zeke Bonura(1940). for 18.

I look forward to flipping past Cookie Rojas (c & player) (1978-81), (check out the link if you don’t get it)

Bonura was much better known as a White Sox.

I chose Drott because he could have been a great pitcher. He was kind of the Kerry Wood of his time — check out his 1957 numbers.

He got hurt and in the pre-arthroscopic surgery, pre-Tommy John days, he was done by age 27.

I had no reason for mentioning zeke other than the name zeke. now that you mention that, I think I remember reading about drott in Million-to-One Team

I agree

Lets not think our team is going to fall apart. We are the most talented team in the NL and we deserve to win. Let’s take this thing!
