OT: Carlos Quentin is done for season

Bad news for Sox fans.   The Score just reported that his wrist is broken and he will probably miss the rest of the season.  This is too bad, Q is a classy and hardworking player who really has made a lot of my Sox fan friends happy this season.

This just goes to show you that some things are worse than a 5 game losing streak.  Imagine if we lost Aramis for the rest of the season!

Sox fans

Sox fans are taking this badly. They are feeling like we would have if yesterday we found out Z was lost for the season.

Actually this is a worse injury for them than Z would have been.

I disagree

With the playoffs around the corner, I think I would rather lose a position player than one of your best starters. Pitching wins in the playoffs.

Not a good thing either way though.

No link. Just hearsay.

I haven’t seen anything official yet of how exactly it happened. There’s speculation that he might’ve broken it slamming his bat after an ab where he struck out. Although he had 3 more ab’s after that incident. Then there’s some reports that are claiming he broke it after punching his locker or a cooler in the locker room after the game.

Until the Sox give the official reason, I guess these rumors will continue to grow. If indeed it was self inflicted, I think I might be upset if I was a Sox fan.

Yeah, it is a shame.

And this is news to me – hadn’t heard a thing about it until now. I have a lot of respect for what Quentin was doing this season. Combine this injury with the fact that Junior is apparently doing next to nothing since joining the Sox (1 home run, .692 OPS in 84 PAs), and our beloved southsiders are going to have an even harder time hanging on to that division. I thought I heard on the radio that Junior was dealing with some kind of injury as well.

Check this out

A few weeks ago I made a fantasy trade with my friend who is a Sox fan:

I sent him Haren and Quentin
He sent me Harden and Kinsler

I didn’t think it was a good move for me to make, but I really wanted Harden. Never would I have thought that Quentin and Kinsler would have their season’s end early.

possibly again. That said, if the Pale Hose stumble with him out, his numbers should still get him some consideration.z

This sucks.

As much as I hate the stupid imbeciles that are White Sox fans, the actual team(save that one catcher they have) is pretty good, with Quentin being an integral part of their success. 26 and he’s hit 36 home runs. Crazy

I hope he gets better for next year

"Yes it's true. Everyone knows that I've pitched. I make sure of that. I have nine different pitches, all of which are awesome. I have a 0.00 ERA, got one out, throwing all knuckleballs. I don't remember who I faced -- some dude from Ole Miss." - Ryan Theriot

I would've felt bad for him and the Sox

If this was an accident or a tough luck or type of injury that happens during the course of a game, like getting hit with a fastball on the wrist, but since it appears it was due to him losing his cool, I really don’t have much sympathy for him or Sox fans.

Let me put it this way: Do you think Sox fans would be feeling sorry for the Cubs if Zambrano broke his wrist punching a water cooler?

Terrible news for the Sox

Too bad. While not a Sox fan I do admire how they have defied the experts all season long. You have to give Kenny Williams and Ozzie Guillen a lot of credit. They get knocked around a lot, but they keep getting the last laugh. World Series championship in 2005 and most likely a playoff bound team again in 2008. It will be interesting to see if Ken Griffey can fill the void. I suspect he is completely done, but who knows.

by MDBNIU on Sep 5, 2008 8:55 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I agree.

Especially since Quentin was stolen from the NL and the D-Backs somewhat - kind of- blew this trade…at least it’s finally moving in the Sox’s direction. (I’ve even giving props to KW!) He seems to be a good kid, and it’s too bad.

And I don’t care what White Sox fans would say if Z was injured….let them talk. (Hopefully, they won’t have the chance.) They are a good team, Quentin had a chance to be MVP.

That opportunity may be lost for Quentin, but the team might still be able to win. I don’t wish them ill will. If they want to do so to the Cubs, that’s their own insecurity talking.

Good

After all the Sox fans using very dergotory words for Soriano and Zambrano when they got hurt, they deserve a punch in the face, and they got it. On that note… Quentin is a great player, I feel for him. It always sucks to watch an mvp candidate go down with injury during a tight race in the division… but i am glad that that should take the sox out of contention for anything specific
